Comments: Bush's Legacy Drowning in Iraq

has the Vietnam war been reassessed? has Nixon been 'rehabilitated'? was the Teapot Dome scandal actually a blessing? while the Repugs strive mightily to create their own reality (see: Reagan, Ronnie), some things are too big to b.s.

as time goes on, the conclusion will only become clearer: Worst. Preznit. Ever.

Fred Barnes book is pretty good......should you ever run out of toilet paper.

Excellent post Mary.
If we are allowed access to the correct history, not the history bu$h wants to supply the country with, he will be the worst president ever!
Of course I said that about Nixon and then Reagan. Will bu$h make out better? More than likely, yes, if the apathy continues.
The automatons will want continue their compassionate conservatism drivel for years.

It will be left to the bloggers to keep complete and concise records. A chronological order of disastrous events during his presidency. CRummy's job at the Defense Dept. Condi's record in both the NSA and Sec. of State. Cheney's black ops, energy scandals and of course Halliburton. Not to mention every Cabinet member who has made money off the taxpayer. This Cabinet has profited at the expense of the American taxpayer like no other administration in history!
Not to mention the joke of having Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General.

Worse yet, I fear it will take 3 election cycles to take the Senate, maybe 2 for Congress. The damage to this country will take years to undo. We cannot delay!

Posted by bbtb at March 14, 2006 10:37 AM

Look at it another way: can the Repugs point to ONE SINGLE THING this administration has accomplished, not counting pork shoveled to their base in the form of tax cuts, reactionary Supreme Court justices and insane deregulation? Have they done ONE SINGLE THING that's been good for the United States of America? I'm waiting...

Great post, Mary!! Nobody could have stated it in clearer terms, or with more conviction or honesty. Thank you.

Posted by tempus at March 14, 2006 10:45 AM

I can't see history looking kindly on Bush's War of Agression in Iraq.

Two things.

In 25 years the pain of paying off Bush's ballooning national debt will be directly reflected on the cost of the Iraq boondoogle.

In 50 years oil itself will be more or less history and one has to wonder what will be the significance of the Middle East. And the question will be, why did Bush bankrupt the nation over a dying resource?

Posted by snark at March 14, 2006 10:50 AM

It makes me sick to see the Senators on C-Span even discussing the cost of VA funding when our young men and women are dying.

What a bunch of arrogant, ignorant, pompous assholes! The fucking nerve! They got their lifetime medical care...fuck the rest of the soldiers!! Make them pay for it!! Sending our soldiers to do their dirty work while they profit and not supply them with the medical care they bled for!! I don't need to be more outraged but this takes the cake!!

Sorry for the expletives and rant...fucking insanity!!

Posted by bbtb at March 14, 2006 10:56 AM

The background story to this excellent post is yet another example of how today's reporting starts with the question of "Who is winning and who is losing the political game in Washington?"

Until we get back a moral compass, until we have a at-long-last-have-you-no-decency moment nothing will change.

What history books will say about Bush's not-so-excellent adventure in Iraq is totally irrlevant today.

The only question right now is: what do we do about the situation now.

Posted by JB (not John Bolton) at March 14, 2006 11:11 AM

Oh, pish. Mr. Bush's ratings are down for a couple of reasons.

First, these ratings are lies. All these polls that have come out lately are completely skewed. In all of them, the pollsters purposely picked many, many, many more Dems to sample...on purpose.

Second, opinions have actually changed somewhat among the American population because of all the fake scandals and the dishonset reporting propagated by the left and their poodles in the MSM.

Bush will have a fantastic legacy. He will go down as one of the greatest statesmen and leaders in history. He is changing the Middle East from aregion of brutal oppressive regimes to one of freedom and democracy and human rights.

Clinton'slegacy is that he raped and/or sexually assaulted dozens of women.

I will bet that he hasn't read 3 books in his entire life.

Hey, Steve al-Soto lives in California, doesn't he?

I wonder if he and Ayman al-Zawahiri ever got together to practice their fiddle palaying.

Feingold is an idiot and a coward.

Fun and games on the Senate floor as Russ Feingold goes full Ahab on Bush but when called upon to stay on the floor and discuss his wild-eyed charges by Senate Judiciary Committee Specter, Feingold turns, looks at Arlen, and exits stage way left.

Lots of spine there. Hat tip to Chairman Specter for deftly exposing the poser for what he is –a charade.

Posted by dipshit at March 14, 2006 11:41 AM

Now I know the kind of posts that dipshit makes, but that last one has to be a parody, right?

He will go down as one of the greatest statesmen...

You have no clue as to what a statesman is do you? He is a politician through and through. There isn't an ounce of statesman in him.

Posted by Simp at March 14, 2006 11:43 AM

Dipshit,

Fuck off and die.

That's your legacy.

Posted by God Of War at March 14, 2006 11:44 AM

bbtb: I concur completely, but I can't get started on the VA subject without being under a doctor's care. Blood pressure and sedatives, you know.

Dipshit: Apt name. You are a complete idiot. Please use your head as a toilet brush.

I'm execting an apology from this site for the posts about Claude Allen.

It turns out he was completely innocent of all charges after all.

Oh my God.....I got LOL'd. That means I am being derided, that my thoughts are laughable. Oh my God...I now must question my whole reason for being.

Ahem...sorry Annie, Claude was just taking the fall for his twin bro who would have been sent to prison for a long time because he would have violated his parole and because of prior convictions.

Mr. Allen is a stand-up guy. You owe him an apology

Posted by dipshit at March 14, 2006 12:01 PM

Dipshit: YOU want an apology from this site??? Are you currently in a psychiatric institution? You are one the biggest assholes we have posting on this site. It takes a great deal for me to get pissed off, but you have managed to do the trick. Please contract Ebola, and soon.

Posted by tempus at March 14, 2006 12:04 PM

Claude was just taking the fall for his twin bro who would have been sent to prison for a long time because he would have violated his parole and because of prior convictions.

Yeah, that's a "stand up guy" for you! One who would let a convicted criminal go free. You have no morals if you think that's commendable behavior. It's okay to lie about your guilt if you keep your criminal brother from going to jail?

Not that it's ever been proven. Anywhere.

Posted by ann at March 14, 2006 12:06 PM

DipShit: Annie???

You derogatory bastard. How dare you address someone you do not even know with a familiarity? God, you have managed to piss me off today. And that is not good.

Posted by tempus at March 14, 2006 12:20 PM

Dipshit, I guess you would believe anything. So his twin brother was using Claude's car and drivers license too! HAHAHAHAHAHA!

OK...the ruse is up. Dipshit is a troll of the highest (lowest?) order. The fact that he can type coherent sentences belies the bullshit that is contained within them. He doesn't believe any of this shit he writes...he's just egging you on.

His comments are actually kind of funny if you view them as parody.

Judith, that's how we know things are going bad for the GOP. I almost welcome the rambling, incoherent frenzy because it means desperation has set in. Angry, frantic trolls are a good thing.

Dipshit, don't flatter yourself. You are hardly a voice of dissent. That's why people here detest you. Now back to our regular programming.

Well, Nero Jr's "legacy" will be all about drowning: drowning in debt, drowning in Iraq, drowning the rule of law, drowning in lies, corruption and incompetence, and even physical drowning from failing to fund planned levee improvements in NO. I guess the city drowned as well as the citizens.

Leaving aside the lies, Nero's Iraq invasion and occupation is already a failure, filled to bursting with abject incompetence, whatever form of society that country may evolve into in the far future. The Iraqis did not ask anyone for this chaos, and they already regard it as an open question whether such chaos is "preferable" to life under Saddam. So don't look for any touching "Thanks, Neo-con friends" from the poor Iraqis, ever. It will be miracle enough if they remain a sovereign nation.

Nero's pre-emptive invasion and attempted colonization will never be a model for any president in the future, assuming that some form of democracy continues in THIS country, let alone Iraq. Hence, it has no possibility of being a positive legacy.

Posted by euzoius at March 14, 2006 02:22 PM

I heard when Claude was arrested, the first thing he did was call Andy Card (or Rove or one of those White House guys, I get 'em all mixed up) and then the radio person went on to say something about an identical twin brother. Huh, the twin bro called the WH? Yeah, riiiight.

Posted by Sharon at March 14, 2006 03:05 PM

"And about the lack of planning and the overwhelming carelessness he held the pawns in his war: our soldiers and the Iraqi people who suffered and died for his war?"

Oh please. You folks don'tgive a damn about either group.

Posted by Bagley at March 14, 2006 03:54 PM

Bagley: And you do, I suppose. You are also a fucking idiot. I am really in a bad mood now. You pride yourself on your naval background. We may just find out whether the anchor outways the wings.

Posted by tempus at March 14, 2006 04:07 PM

tempus,

bad mood, huh. So sorry.

"Wings?" Oh, that would be your online person: a fantasy created a a leftist seeking some sort of authority to pontificate on military issues. Got it.

"And you do, I suppose." About the soldiers, yeah. About the Iraq people -- less so.

"You are also a fucking idiot." Ahh, such an intelligent and well reasoned response.

Posted by Bagley at March 14, 2006 04:15 PM

Bagley: there is no 'reasoned response' to your comments. They do not justify a 'reasoned response'.

Posted by tempus at March 14, 2006 04:38 PM

it wasn't allen's twin brother, it was his siamese twin. and they were spies from the planet zelgar. and i kissed a girl once.

Posted by dipshit's more reality-based twin at March 14, 2006 04:49 PM

"They do not justify a 'reasoned response'."

So you say, tempus. So you say.

I would suggest, however, that beyond foul language you and your kind have nothing to offer.

Hope you feel better. I really do.

Posted by Bagley at March 14, 2006 05:00 PM

As Bagley crawls out of his hole to come entertain us, he continues to support the true killers in the white house.
And since I have a mercenary brother-in-law and a nephew in the regular Air Force SP's over there I do give damn.
As for the Iraqi people, I do care.
I don't see how you can support this administration and say we are helping. How many died today in sectarian related violence?

Posted by bbtb at March 14, 2006 05:30 PM

I would have thought that a billet to West Pac would last longer than a few days, Bagley! But then, being some kind of highly rank officer in Jesus' Navy might get you certain perqs that the lower ratings don't enjoy.

Posted by pessimist at March 14, 2006 06:17 PM

Bush has read yet another letter, during his speech today, from an unfortunate Mother who lost a son in Iraq. They may as well be on a White House form letter, they go like this:

Please stay the course, Mr. President, or my son,(name here), will have died in vain. Do these Mothers really feel better putting more soldiers in harm's way, to possibly suffer the same fate?

With this thinking, we would still be in Viet Nam, and the Confederates would be taking potshots from the hedgerows.
