Comments: House GOP Votes Against Port Security

And if you don't think this will be rammed down the GOP's throat this November...

Rammed down the GOP's throat by whom?

You certainly don't expect the Dem leadership to do the ramming, do you? You'll be doomed to yet more bitter disappointment if that's the case.

That's the last straw! Torches and pitchforks at the ready! Dam the diebolds, full speed ahead!

If we protect our ports
The tarraists have already won.

(And life in the Rabbit's hole goes on surrealisticaly, as expected)

Rammed down the GOP's throat by whom?

Yeah, I gotta say I agree with this. The Democrats keep proving time and again that they're not going to do anything. I just got the latest e-mail from Howard Dean and the DNC. I'm a huge Howard Dean fan, and was a supporter long before he ran for president. And now I get a letter regarding Feingold's censure motion. Sort of. It's not really about the motion. It says "whatever your opinions" about the censure, Republicans (Allard in particular) must apologize for calling Feingold a traitor.

What the?! What a dumb-f*&@! letter to send out. What the hell do you idiots expect the Republicans to do? It's they're winning strategy to say that Dems are for the terrorists. And it's only a winning strategy to the extent that the Democrats don't friggen stand up and do anything real about it. It's not like the American people friggen like this administration or how he's handling the terrorists. How 'bout instead you get all the data for the respective districts, and go rally the people in them and show enough Senators and Congressmen to come out and support the censure?

Are they gonna ram this down the Republican's throat? I think they'll spend the next few months debating amongst themselves whether the throat is really the proper avenue of attack. It might make them look gay to go through an orafice instead of directly into the heart.

That's the last straw! Torches and pitchforks at the ready! Dam the diebolds, full speed ahead!

You know...seriously, what will be the last straw? And not just for the country at large, but for all of us on our side? At what point do we decide that blogging and activism do a lot of good but not enough, and that the system has been hopelessly corrupted and broken? And then what do we do?

Mind you, I'm ranting. I'm not surrendering, and I would be the last person in the world to adopt a fatalistic position. But I'm really beginning to wonder....is America dead? Is it over? Things just keep getting worse, and worse and worse, and somehow it doesn't seem to matter. When are the (metaphorical) pitchforks going to be brought out, and what, exactly are they (if indeed they're metaphorical)?

There was a messege on our answering machine today, informing us that J.D. Hayworth took $164,000 from the drug companies. They left his phone number, and suggested we call and ask him to start working for the people, and not the drug companies. Somebody's doing something.

The "torch" is to illuminate to people who don't vote, the fact that they could improve their lot by doing so.

The "pitchfork" is their new voter registration card. We need to fish in the pond of apathy for new untapped power. 100 million guppies are just waiting for the right lure.

How has any major change or attention of the media been accomplished? DEMONSTRATIONS!

We have got to organize the biggest march on Washington ever seen since the anti-war protests of the 60's. Nothing will change until they see the anger of millions of Americans marching in the streets of the Capitol carrying signs to impeach GWB.

Sign me up Judith. I agree. The 10 million voter march has a nice ring to it. It worked in the Ukraine. For Tiki, we can all carry torches or pitchforks.

Oh, I see. The fascist swine president's poll numbers are down to 33 percent, and a majority of Americans no longer think the Iraq thing is going to result in "victory," yet nobody in Congress has the balls to stand up and vote for port security and disaster preparedness?

What I don't see here is the fascist swine's political oblivion. They once again did what chief swine Karl Rove told them to do.

Star wars! Star wars! (Big bucks for defense contractor buddies of the fascist swine.)

Not much faith in the Dems round these parts. Which is quite understandable. It's not entirely the bias of the press---they really cannot play like a team, back each other up, and demonize the opposition like the Brownshirts do. Just can't do it.

Severe economic problems MIGHT be the looked for "last straw", but I'm not certain. I think a great many people in America now think that government exists mostly to make things safe for "business", i.e. economic growth through lightly regulated capitalism, the true religion of modernity.

We are a shallow, corrupted, degenerate people, motivated principally by personal material gain. Material advancement (through prayer and God's grace, of course) is a big element of the Fundamentalist shit trough. If something happens to affect the purchase of all the goodies, then the people will notice. What they will "do" about it, heaven knows.

Until that time, pre-emptive invasions, occupation of foreign lands, lawbreaking, corruption, environmental destruction, diplomatic isolation, increasing poverty, health care crisis, transfers of obscene wealth to the top 2%, squandering of fossil fuel, blah, blah, blah, Americans are sleeping through it, making their daily trip to their favorite "discounting" big box retailer and dreamin' about their new SUV, monster truck, boat, vacation home, annual trip of a lifetime, family room addition, third remodeling, etc, ect. ad nauseum.

Arrighty Judith, I'm sure willing to try it out. Hell, we could even call it the "torches and pitchforks" demonstration, and carry cardboard cut-outs of torches and pitchforks. :)

Wanna actually start organizing it? I'll be happy to do what I can, get my group's membership involved, and spread the word.

I do think that we should stress that it's not a partisan thing - and try to get as many Dems, Reps and Indy's as we possibly can. We also might want to think of something to make it more than "just another" protest. Not sure what I mean....but something that keeps attention on it, and some way to keep the physical protest presence right through the elections.

Anyway, as always Judith, click my name, gimme a holler. I'm sure willing to try it out. Going through regular channels sure doesn't work, and I'm so god damned sick of how my government is acting - both miserable parties - so yeah, let's give it a shot.

Now, now don't be nattering nabobs of negativity. The dems are keeping their powder dry so they can be ready for a really big fight. Like stopping some nutjob who believes in the unitary executive theory from sitting on the Supreme Court.

.....wait a minute.

Fuck the spineless DC Democrats. I don't need their fucking permission to stand up and fight. They are not my leaders. In fact, they are no leaders at all.

They'll not see a solitary dime from me. Fuck 'em.

Judith, euzious and Liveliest: The only thing, IMHO, that would make people, media and gov'ment sit up and take notice is a complete General Strike, perhaps lasting weeks or months. But that would require everybody involved (in BIG numbers) being willing to put it all on the line (and by "it" I mean their livelihoods). I'm so frustrated that I'm nearly to the point of quitting my job just to cut off the money being bled from my paychecks and sent to Iraq, Pakistan, Israel, Halliburton, you-name-it. Anything less, I think, would go unnoticed and unreported. It's time to put our money where our hearts and souls used to be. (:>
