I watched the press conference this morning in complete disbelief. The President of the United States looked and sounded like a ten-year old on amphetamines.
That was probably the most inept, pathetic conference I have ever watched in my life. This is not a partisan observation or attitude, it is reality.
The transcript of this conference will be an embarrassment for the GOP for years. God, I cannot believe this idiot is the president.
Posted by tempus at March 21, 2006 08:09 AMP.S. There will be at least fifty "Bushism's" emerging from this debacle.
Posted by tempus at March 21, 2006 08:15 AMSpeaking of permanent bases in Iraq, I just came across this article in The Nation yesterday:
It looks like a lot the money that Congress has been authorizing for "reconstruction" in Iraq is actually going to build permanent bases for our troops. So, while the Iraqis still don't have dependable electricty, at least our troops can go to a Popeye's and Pizza Hut.
Posted by ann at March 21, 2006 08:16 AMAnd more coverage is being given to the celebrities who are speaking out - its about time.
Posted this article on OT; the truth about this war is truly ugly.
Posted by Anjha at March 21, 2006 08:31 AMThink Progress noted this about today's press conference:
REPORTER: Will there come a day, and I’m not asking you when — I’m not asking for a timetable — will there come a day when there will be no more American forces in Iraq?
BUSH: That, of course, is an objective, and that will be decided by future presidents and future governments of Iraq.
So, basically, Bush plans on leaving the troops in Iraq for as long as he remains in office. He'll leave the clean up for someone else. Sounds par for the course with Bushie.
Bush toady talking about Iran;
And the reason why is because if the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, they could blackmail the world; if the Iranians were to have a nuclear weapon, they could proliferate.
This is a country that is walking away from international accords. They're not heading toward the international accords. They're not welcoming the international inspections or safeguard measures that they had agreed to.
I suppose he was talking about the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty? That one that he just wlaked hand-in-hand with India away from. That's the one he was talking about, right?
And I loved Helen Thomas nailing him to the wall asking him why he wanted to go to war. His answer is basically "No I didn't want to go to war it's just that 9/11 changed everything and made war my only choice". What a dipshit.
also, iran didn't violate the NPT
Posted by benjoya at March 21, 2006 09:30 AMThen Iran could blackmail the world?
Bush blackmails the world on a day to day basis.

What would have been enough diplomacy for you before invading Iraq? How many UN resolutions would Saddam have been allowed to ignore? How many times would he be allowed to throw out weapon inspectors? If President Bush had really only wanted to invade Iraq he had plenty of justification. WMD's are known to have been use by him in the past. Each resolution required he disarm and disclose his WMD programs why didn't he the resolution put the responsibilty on him. If he did disarm in the early 90's then Scott Ritter and other inspectors should be jailed for fraud for the times they stated that Saddam had them.
Posted by Avenger D-22 at March 21, 2006 09:42 AMD-22 How many UN resolution canI sreal or the US ignore. Saddam didn't throw the inspector out, they left because we were going to bomb Iraq. I
Posted by Goose1 at March 21, 2006 10:01 AMWell we can take comfort in the knowledge that, for the time being at least, President Bush acknowledges there will be a presidency after his. Of course this could all change between now and 2008, when his supporters decide that the 22nd amendment is another one of those 'outdated' laws that don't need to be adhered to.

Nah....Bush is tired. And he's tired of people asking him so many tough questions. I think this 'lil hombre is ready to head back to the ranch.

At least you have extemely modest goals, good for you. When you get there you too will be able to mangle the english language, regularly crash on your tricycle, and leave microphones on while you are being crude and vulgar for all the world to hear. You go boy! Your master is training you right.
Avenger, I appreciate your asking those questions.
What would have been enough diplomacy for you before invading Iraq?
Well he could have allowed the on-going UN inspections continue for starters.
How many UN resolutions would Saddam have been allowed to ignore?
How many did he ignore? Did they find proscribed weapons following our invasion?
How many times would he be allowed to throw out weapon inspectors?
Weapons inspectors were on the ground finding nothing when George Bush told them to leave because he was going to start a war.
If President Bush had really only wanted to invade Iraq he had plenty of justification.
I'm not quite sure what the significance of that statement is.
WMD's are known to have been use by him in the past.
The US has used them in the past and still possesses them. Does that mean any country that feels like invading the US has the green light as far as you're concerned?
Each resolution required he disarm and disclose his WMD programs why didn't he the resolution put the responsibilty on him.
Again, he said he had no active programs and none were found.
If he did disarm in the early 90's then Scott Ritter and other inspectors should be jailed for fraud for the times they stated that Saddam had them.
If you'd like to pursue that case go right ahead. Scott Ritter didn't advise anyone to invade Iraq. George Bush made that decision. Contrary to the advice of the United Nations.
Posted by snark at March 21, 2006 10:22 AMMy goodness, Bush looks like he just came off a week long bender, bloodshot, red-rimmed eyes, blotchy face, unfocussed look. How frightening this madman's in charge (ostensibly) of my country.
snark, thanks for the troll-reply. Sadly, it's all common sense and these bushbots just don't have much of it.
Posted by iamcoyote at March 21, 2006 11:06 AMWhy anybody is surprised that Iraq mess will not be resolved by Bush. Therefore it is extremely important for Democratic presidential hopefuls to tell American public what is their plan and strtegy to get us out of Iraq. Unless they spell out it clearly, why should anybody vote for someone who has no timetable to cleanup the mess we are in?
Posted by suresh at March 21, 2006 11:13 AMI did not seeit but heard the news conference on the radio and I thought he must be on speed, maybe adderal?

Posted by a dipshit at March 21, 2006 02:05 PMHey Ken, I'll go one better: After enduring Bush at the podium, I say lets trade the one president thingy for a panel of 9 rulers, like the supreme court.
Then it would take at least 5 rulers of the 9, simultaneously going insane to invade a country in the middle of the most dangerous part of the world for no reason.
9 rulers making an educated decision, woulde be better than 1 chimp throwing a dart at a globe and screeching "BOMB, BOMB, BOMB!"

Posted by Ken Jackson CPO USN Ret. at March 21, 2006 03:47 PMSnark,
thanks for the reasonable response.
Now to refute some of what you wrote.
First how long would you have let those weapons inspectors search 10 years 20 years how long would be enough when that if he did have them he could have offered them for use by the terrorists.
second there were several times when he threw them out prior to President bush coming into office. many times when the press reported that the inspectors wer leaving or complaining about not being allowed full unfettered access. Does this sound like full compliance?
The US has not attack anyone without provication in my opinion Iraq would have been delt with the first time he had fired on a US plane flying in the either of the No fly Zones but unfortunately hindsight is twenty twenty.
Again saying it and proving it are two different things.
As for I am coyote leave it to you to start the name calling instead of thoughtful replies.
As you seem to me to be a Bush hater your opine means about as much as a dog turd.
As for the Ken Jackson hey swabbbie he isn't running for President again I would expect that kinda foolishness from a jarhead but not a Chief
Posted by Avenger D-22 at March 21, 2006 05:20 PMWell wing wiper, just like every airdale I ever met, change the black box and send it back to AMD... You guys were never worth tits on a boar then, and as far as today, you still aren't worth a half gallon of stale piss....

If your so convinced that Bush is an idiot then you should have no problem prodding you liberal Senators and Congressman to move forward with censure and impeachement. The fact that Bush thinks it will help him should be proof enough for you guys that it won't since he obviously lives in an alternate universe.
Stop talking about it...just DO IT!!!!!
(It's obvious for those of us not infected by this echo chamber who the people in the bubble really are- It's YOU.)

There again is the 9/11 connection to Iraq. I am sure that his admitting that he has no plans on leaving Iraq during his time in office came as a surprise to a lot of people. To me, that was the big news of this press conference.
Posted by Judith at March 21, 2006 08:19 PMDavid: Alternate universe? I suggest a black hole. This nutbar is playing left field with his back to the plate.
Posted by tempus at March 21, 2006 08:33 PMWhy would anyone be surprised at Bush's Press Conference today? One thing about Bush, he is consistent. Make a mess, and let someone else clean it up. Story of his life.
Posted by Judith at March 21, 2006 08:37 PMOh, and let's put George on Jeopardy and see how well he does.
Posted by tempus at March 21, 2006 08:37 PM20 years of the lost tribe of weapon inspectors wandering the desert should look good to anyone right now, considering the failed alternative.
Does anyone really believe Sadaam's radar locked on our planes? It's called on the job missle testing program. Also provided propaganda to stay there, and stalk oil.
Be gone, naive troll, your kool-aid has no power here.
