Comments: Is The White House Trying To Provoke A Civil War In Iraq?

No Steve. This Whitehouse is so inept that they cannot plan and perform a simple operation, leave aside creating a civil war in Iraq. They are totally helpless in what is developing in Iraq. They shot themselves in the foot with this war and they know it.

Many believe so.

A civil war in Iraq functions to accomplish two things:

1.) justify keeping the troops in Iraq indefinitely, and,

2.) acting as a smoke screen as the neocons in the Pentagon build the 4 city-bases Halliburton has the contract to build.

If your goal is to never leave, then you want unrest to justify your claims of needing to help enhance Iraqi security. This is all theatrics in a much longer play...

if this newest defense from Rummy falls apart, it will be game, set, and match for our credibility over there

Sorry. Only neo-cons and camels are dumb enough to believe the lies of this administration. The Iraqis will see right through it. And the neo-cons will soon be along to snort, bellow, blow phlegm and bloviate with bad breath just like...well, you know.

*****

While I generally agree with your sentiment, the flaw in your logic is that America can't afford the charade.

Fortunately.

The fuckers are trying, though, aren't they.

Steve, my suggestion to Russart:

Condi got a free ride. Russert did ask a few good questions, but if you had had a progressive, we might have heard better questions.

How about interviewing Steve Soto of the Left Coaster?

This latest atrocity is but one of hundreds, no doubt. There is no plan to win hearts and minds anymore, if there ever was one. It's about eliminating air breathers in Iraq.

For God's sake, all that depleted uranium munition fallout (radioactive ceramic/uranium dust) must be in the lungs of a significant portion of the Iraqi population by now. Low level radiation exposure causes fertility problems, birth defects in off spring and multiple cancers, leading to death.

Peak Oil means world depopulation. It seems we may be well on our way.

"..if this newest defense from Rummy falls apart, it will be game, set, and match for our credibility over there".

Credibility? What credibility? No one on the face of the earth can take the Bushites at their word. The U.S. military takes their orders, but what percentage of the officer corps take do you think takes those incompetent fucks at their word?

I've got a feeling we're on the verge of getting shown the door in such a way as to make the fall of Saigon look like the Long Goodbye.

I am not a doctor, but the body in the immediate foreground is quite definitely dead. The person just behind is probably faked, in that I have not seen anyone executed with a liver shot, which seems to be the case.

Here's what I want to know: if there's so much good news in Iraq, why isn't Fox News reporting it 24/7?

Come on now, you can be a doctor if you want to. Who\'s gonna know?

Here's a thought. They are indeed trying to start a civil war but not for an excuse to stay but as an excuse to leave. There have been a few "form a government or else" veiled threats of late. If a full scale civil war broke out they could pull out and say "well we tried but the ungrateful bastards wouldn't or couldn't get it together.

The current story is that the raid was undertaken to free a single Iraqi hostage.

A 50 unit Iraqi special forces unit (how many of those can there be?) plus 25 American "supervisors" deployed to rescue a single Iraqi hostage. Does this sound credible as a military operation?

I question whether the generals want to spark a general Shi'ite insurrection with most of our 130,000 troops essentially deployed in the Sunni triangle or further west. Also, we must remember that not every military operation makes coherent sense---although I agree this one seems particularly, spectacularly incoherent.

Right now, it defies explanation, and Iraqis are going to believe whatever they want to believe about it. Which, as usual, won't be good for us.

I'm just waiting for the helo evac, Nam-style, of our forces. Any time either main faction of Iraqis want to seriously attack us, they can. We've armed them, given them our methods of operations, shown them where we are weak, shown them the patterns of our air capability, shown them where we draw the line. We have, thanks to Bush policy (or lack thereof) been training Iraqis for a year and now they can use it against us when it suits them. Or each other.
One thing Bush and Rummy conveniently forget - the US invaded a soverign nation for no reason and the people who live there don't want to be occupied. They'll fight back, on their terms not ours and we don't have the troop strength to stop them.

I'm sure you're all just moist about this new My Lai.

Oh, well. Civil war in Iraq for you is worth seats in Congress. Be sure to run with this until the next thing.
