I live in NC and we are absolutely overrun with illegal Hispanic immigrants. They are overwhelming social services, the schools and the hospitals. MAny are paid in cash under the table. It is a huge problem.
I think every illegal immigrant should be rounded up and thrown out of the country. Any employer caught with illegals on the payroll should be fined 100K for each illegal immigrant in their employ. We should build guardposts every 0.5 kilometers along the border, man them with a team of four people and two M-60 machine guns 24/7/365, and shoot on sight anyone caught crossing the border.
There was a point in time where the US could be welcoming of anyone wanting to come to the country. Those days are gone. Until we can take care of our own citizens, we shouldn't be letting the US become greater Mexico.

In a nutshell, Bush allowed the immigration to please his big business masters. To get lower labor costs in manufacturing, you move the plant to somewhere that has cheap labor. To lower the labor costs in the service industry, you allow undocumented workers to flood over the border. In both cases the workers are exploited, have terrible working conditions and have no recourse when they are abused. To make the 11 million undocumented workers now in the US instant felons is insanity, as is somehow shipping all of them back to their home countries. If we can't effectively evacuate a few hundred thousand people from New Orleans, how do you expect to send 11 million illegals out of the country? Make the employers that hire these people the felons, make the fines huge, put business owners in prison for violating the laws that already are on the books, and watch the problem evaporate virtually overnight.

It already is criminalized, it's just not enforced. Cuts to federal programs, like INS, mean that things don't get investigated. And businesses will continue to pay undocumented workers under the table to avoid scrutiny.
Having worked in the restaurant business for many years, I can also tell you that it is damn hard to determine the fake "green cards" from the real ones. Someone out there makes great fakes. There needs to be a way for employers to easily and quickly verify immigrant status before you can start arresting or fining employers.

The Dutch were getting their asses kicked by the Spaniards not the other way around. Under the command of Alessandro Farnese the Italian Duke of Parma, the Spanish had pushed the Dutch to verge of Defeat. The reason the Spanish couldn't put way the Dutch is because Spain also was helping the French Catholics fight the Hugonauts and the Austro-Hungarian Hapsburgs against the Turks. Britain duidn't rule the waves after the Armada fiasco. The Spnaish Hapsburgs rebuilt the Spanish fleet using smaller ships called Zigarutas and actually defated the British is several naval engagements. In fact the Spanish were gaining the upper hand against the English, that in 1604 King James asked for a peace treaty.
England didn't become the dominant power until the French and Indian wars, also called the 7 years war in Europe. Actually when Spanish power collapsed in the 1640's it was Bourbon France that became the dominat power. Read your history and not Racist propaganda!

Spain was far from Impotent, they rebuilt their fleet with smaller ships and Defeated the English and Dutch in many naval engagement, such as one in 1601 off the coast of Brittany. Spanish power didn't collapse until the 1640's due the the 30 Years war. A good Military History book about all wars is the Harper Encyclopedia of Military History.
