For a person of her age, especially one whose musical ability is part of her cachet, to have absolutely no idea about the music that changed the world forever is a disconnect with modern culture that borders on the incomprehensible.
This woman does not have a clue about anything, does she?

"Da, da--I mean Nyet, nyet."

Posted by TIKI AL at April 1, 2006 10:48 PMSpeaking of Gandhi, here are a couple of thoughts by this spiritual man:
We have long been accustomed to think that power comes only through legislative assemblies. I have regarded this belief as a grave error brought about by inertia or hypnotism. A superficial study of the British history has made us think that all power percolates to the people from parliaments. The truth is that power resides in the people and it is entrusted for the time being to those whom they may choose as their representatives. The parliaments have no power or even existence independently of the people. It has been my effort for the last twenty-one years to convince the people of this simple truth. Civil disobedience is the storehouse of power.
Every citizen therefore renders himself responsible for every act of his government. And it is quite proper to support it so long as the actions of the government are bearable. But when they hurt him and his nation, it becomes his duty to withdraw his support.

Condi continues to be an embarrassment to this Country. So what's new.
Posted by Judith at April 2, 2006 06:14 AMNo fan of Condi's but what an absolutely stupid test. Big deal she didn't get the reference. Must she always have a Beatle lyric at the ready? NON STORY.
Posted by Daryl at April 2, 2006 06:29 AMDaryl, if it was one isolated incident, it would be different. However, it is not.
Posted by at April 2, 2006 06:33 AMI think that Beatles lyric you're trying to reference at the close is more like ...
We'd love to turn you on.
not 'out'
If you gonna dis someone for their lack of quotin moxy, you better bring it yourself, eh?
Posted by bud at April 2, 2006 08:48 AM"No short haired yellow-bellied [daughter] of Tricky Dicky gonna mother Hubbard soft soap me with just a pocketful of hope..."
They should have asked Rice if she could hum the lyrics to that one.

Back atcha, dude! It's a paraphrase, not a quote. That would be defined by the line previous, which if YOU knew your Beatle lyrics, isn't the original either.
And, for the record, I really WOULD like to turn them out - of power. All of them.

Only if she claims to be a big fan, which she does. Kind of like claiming to be a Hemingway fan and wondering what the reference is to a bell tolling, or a Dylan fan who doesn't know what "the times" are a-doin'.
Basically it exposes a lie contrived to support the image of someone in touch with America. Get it?
Posted by Repack Rider at April 2, 2006 11:00 AMFor the life of me I can't see Condi sitting around with five or six friends smoking dope, eating everything from chocolate cake to chips, with Bealtle music loud enough for people in a six block radius to hear. Maybe it's just me, but I don't see it.
