The first data to document the effect of President Bush's tax cuts for investment income show that they have significantly lowered the tax burden on the richest Americans, reducing taxes on incomes of more than $10 million by an average of about $500,000.

By contrast, few taxpayers with modest incomes benefited because most of them who own stocks held them in retirement accounts, which are not eligible for the investment income tax cuts. Money in these accounts is not taxed until withdrawal, when the higher rates on wages apply.

Big Gain for Rich Seen in Tax Cuts for Investments

Ann,

In all fairness it's pretty tough to scrap by on only $10 million a year. You have no idea what the upkeep on a private jet is.

Folks - a small word of advice.

Don't return your laptop back to your tech support guy with a chewed through power cord and duct tape holding the case together and claim it's all your dog's fault.

Even I can tell you it's your fault for buying an animal and not paying enough attention to it that it takes out its frustrations on your other "pets".

Ditto for kids.

The animal survived chewing through a power cord?

Tough fuckin' animal.

The animal survived chewing through a power cord?

Unplugged perhaps?

It's snowing in Manhattan.

The animal - lucky for it maybe - chewed through the downstream side of the AC-to-DC powerbrick, so if it got zapped, it was at 15V @ 5A, rather than household voltage of 120V @ 20A. While still capabile of killing you by disrupting cardiac rhythm, it's less likely to burn you or short your neurological systems.

And ditto for kids is damn right.

Happy Wednesday Mr. Hastert.

Priests planning hunger strike at Hastert's office

Priests from the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Rockford Diocese say they will begin a hunger strike at U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert's downtown Batavia office today in support of a federal immigration bill.

The Rev. Larry Dowling, pastor of Chicago's St. Denis Church, said he will be joined by three dozen members of Priests for Justice, including some from Aurora. A handful of priests will not eat until Hastert agrees to meet with them and accept 150,000 postcards in favor of the McCain/Kennedy legislation that supports a gradual path to citizenship for immigrants who work in the United States.

"Tom DeLay has proven himself, without any doubt to be the antithesis of a Christian, he is the the proverbial Pharisee and Moneychanger that Jesus had to throw out of the Temple."

"How vile Tom DeLay is to use the good Christian people of our beloved Country for his own gain and political purposes, and he is still using God as a prop in his evil game."

From Huffingtonpost.com. Thank you Mr. Dapper, you have just hit the nail on the head.

Id, the fan on my notebook seems to be perpetually going and it seems hotter than it should be. Where do I go to see if there is a problem? Is there a properties item that I should be looking at? (Help and support center was of no use because I do not know where to start.) I have warranty, but I don't want to bring it in because I can't go without it.

Any free advice greatly appreciated.

(Sorry - you brought up the whole idiots with computers thing.)

Posted by Anjha at April 5, 2006 03:35 PM

Anjha, if the computer starts to overheat, it usually will just shut down, seemingly out of the blue. But then it's getting to a point where data could be lost. Until you find out what the problem is, I'd back up important stuff if you can.

Posted by iamcoyote at April 5, 2006 04:53 PM

Anjha: Make sure the air intake on your notebook is not obstructed, and that the air is circulating. If that does not work, try setting it on a block of dry ice.

McKinney appears to have some anger problems, and should have to go thru the metal detector from now on.

TIKI, is dry ice a stock item with HP or is it aftermarket?

Posted by Anjha at April 5, 2006 06:41 PM

Anjha, neither. It's an old home remedy.

But he's right, you could prop it up so that it's not flush with a solid surface where the heat is trapped and can build up. I've had someone put it up on a book, and it cleared up the problem. If the fan itself is going out, you'll have to get it replaced.

Aftermarket ice works fine, if there is no sand in it.

Officemax sells a neat beanbag laptop table to use in bed, designed to keep the computer cool.(20$)

Damn TIKI, I thought you were giving AZ remedies for a second.

You have a dry ice computer table also, bb?

They work well posting from the middle of the pool.
