The Democrats have no power in DC. None.

So even if you think they suck ass, as I do, you can't blame them for shit that goes down in GOP DC. That'd be like blaming a bench-rider for losing the game.

And one other thing: Could Bill "She obviously responds to visual stimuli" Frist be a more pathetic figure? That ghoul would best retire to some lake property after he retires his seat. A presidential run would simply be too embarrassing to watch.

Steve, something that occured to me the other day:
The MSM, as we politely call them are often way behind the blogosphere on a lot of these stories and they treat great stories and writing found here and at some other great 'left' leaning sites with contempt. (except when they steal stories unattributed and print them under their own by-lines...)
Eriposte pretty much owns the Niger forgeries stuff. Could she try to get it published by a member organ of the MSM?
What mechanism is there for the amazing writing here and at other blogs to get to that wider audience outside of the blogs?
What's left of the Knight Ridder papers comes to mind.

The GOP does not want to act contrary to that which serves the best interests of the country.

The immigration "reform" bill, as it currently stands, acts contrary to the best interests of the country. So of course the GOP is going to move to stall action on the bill, until a more actionable plan can be brought forth.

I know you liberals want to go down to the border and wave flags saying "come on, everyone, there's a party going down!" and let a wave of immigrants flow from Mexico, but that's not going to happen under the GOP's watch.

shoelimpy:

Where does the McCain-Kennedy bill grant amnesty to anyone? I'm still waiting for that citation from you. And no, under the GOP's watch, millions come across to provide cheap labor for corporations and small business without penalty, while those same GOP congressmembers deny budget requests from the Border Patrol, the Customs Service, and the Coast Guard for more resources.

This is all very suspicious and mysterious.

Why would the GOP unanimously support Frist's request, especially after all the "great breakthrough" rhetoric served up yesterday?

Was this whole immigration thing a political ploy (ala KKKarl) to supposedly establish "lib'rul" and conservative positions that can animate abject morons like shoesticky in 2006?

Or, since Nero Jr and a variety of influential business interests really seem to want legal guest workers for their sweatshops, packing houses and 110 degree roofing gigs, did Nero advance this issue because he really wanted a bill, and failed? It's not being presented like a failure for him so far.

I'm inclined to see this as a Rovian tactic pushed forward now solely for use in the election, not a real issue that Nero wanted to win on. If that's the case, the Dems will be painted as the "pro-illegal", "pro-criminal" party.

"The GOP does not want to act contrary to that which serves the best interests of the country."

shoe, You still don't get it. The GOP is the majority so why can't we have an up or down vote? (like they said on the the Judges)If they want to serve in the best interest of the country they why can they come up with something to vote on?

Posted by Goose at April 7, 2006 01:26 PM

Even better, Goose, who the hell has been in charge of the "nonexistent" border for the last 5 years, and Congress, for the last four years? Some reason immigration couldn't get on the legislative agenda until now, given it's such a "crisis"?

On whose watch did 600,000 illegals PER YEAR since 2000 cross into the country? On whose watch was there diminished enforcement on every front?

Now for some reason illegal immigration becomes the Republican cause celebre of 2006. Wonder why.

Posted by euzoius at April 7, 2006 03:16 PM

Does anyone here really believe that there are only 11 or 12 million illegal immigrants here in the United States?

Posted by Toby Petzold at April 7, 2006 05:37 PM

The McCain-Kennedy bill wants to grant citizenship to large numbers of illegal aliens. What else would you call that besides amnesty?

Posted by shoelimpy at April 7, 2006 07:21 PM

shoelimpy, read the story linked in this post. McCain-Kennedy grants citizenship to no one. Do you read?

No I don't, that would be just hispanic illegals. I know there are about 50,000 illegal immigrants currently serving in the US military right now. I'm sure you would think that they deserve at least a glass a of water, right Toby?

"After I emailed the author of the AP story to point out her incorrect spin on this story, the slant has been changed from the original version to correctly reflect..."

Awesome. This is how we force the press to get it right. Thanks for doing this.

Steve, does Shoelimpy have other aliases? His posts are vaguely familiar.

Steve, ignore that post. I have a short memory.

Do you count Tejas? I still think we should invade and take their oil and ports.

The immigration bill was meant to die. Business is passing around money through their lobbys to stop this reform. Where it is really starting to hit is in non-technical specializations. The Fed has started to enforce rules and regs. Chair of an academic department I spoke with tried to hire an Asian. The Feds stepped in and stopped the hiring, asking for all documents surrounding job search and employment. The first time this has happened for any foreign national in this department.

In essence, anyone who is not Hispanic and working in the fields is going to be the target of the Buschco reforms. Only illegal immigrants from north of the Panama Canal are welcome here. Why? So we can keep fucking them over and have cheap fruit and clean toilets.
