Comments: They Killed Jesus - AND, What They Did To George!

Rather unfunny television show. The Simpsons is a thousand times better, a show that recognizes that Bush is Mr. Cuckoobananas.

Posted by Herman at April 15, 2006 12:12 PM

Never seen it, but I'm against any and all forms of censorship.

Posted by Christopher at April 15, 2006 12:56 PM

These guys haven't been paying attention.
The very first South Park featured Jesus and Santa Claus in a kickboxing showdown over which one truly represented Christmas...SP was funny back then.

Rape?!?!?!?

A bizarre, drugged rape, assisted by the CIA?!?!?!?

Then a dead woman?!?!?!

WTF is wrong with the media?!?!?!

This evil sociopath will not stop until we stop him. Where is the outrage?!?!?

Posted by Anjha at April 15, 2006 01:21 PM

I'm waiting for Brother Scout to comment.

Posted by muckdog at April 15, 2006 01:23 PM

South Park has never been horrendously funny . . it's been more about, "what can we get away with this week?"

Posted by idiosynchronic at April 15, 2006 01:57 PM

Yeah, Laura kills her lover and Bush rapes a woman. What a team. Ever wonder why there is no dignity in the WH? There's your answer. They both live sordid lives.

Posted by Judith at April 15, 2006 02:33 PM

How convenient that the women died. Seems anyone who gets in the Republican's way meet with untimely deaths.

I had no idea that Bush was named in a rape case. Wonder what the Fundamentalists would think about that fact, if known? Fucking unbelievable!

I'd recommend you make an effort to see both parts of the episoide in question -- I'm not a fan of South Park either, but it was quite interesting commentary-wise.

Posted by m0nstermike at April 15, 2006 04:51 PM

pessimist:
I really don't get the "situational ethics" assertion, at least based in the definition you cite. It seems to me the behavior is more like cynicism, hypocrisy, deception and mendacity. I don't think any kind of ethical system, even situational, enters into it.
Also, please excuse me but I had a hard time following your post and separating it from you quotations. Was one of your points the contention that it was illegitmate for South Park to satirize (to put it mildly) Jesus?
I don't watch the show, but I don't think I would agree that Jesus OR Mohammed would be off limits. It is the writers' stock in trade to take potshots at Jesus, etc. They aren't the hypocrites just because the network allows some prophets to be "abused" and not others.
But I must admit that I may not be getting your point. Frankly, your style in this post remind me of that of the commenter whose name I dare not mention. Maybe it was due to the wide range of quotations and the format.
But maybe it's the hour, the wine, and the Robitussin.

Judith: nothing the Shrub does surprises me. He is a complete lunatic, surrounded by even more demented lunatics.

Satire my ass. Two frat boys sitting around going "Hey! What would be really, really shocking?!" Thats about South Park. Just the stuff for the country of perpetual adolescence. I have to laugh my ass off at the pro-decency, anti-blasphemy right, O'Reilly moron brigade trying to spin this into a case of "Muslim appeasement" though.

Posted by jondee at April 16, 2006 12:26 AM

The "Jesus Thing" was actually a pretend cartoon from the Muslim fundies (in the same cartoon) in retaliation for another US cartoon that showed Muhammad. Very stoopid but it was coming from the Mus Fundies-So, funny. If you haven't watched it you pretty much can't get it. & If you have watched it and are still outraged, then you are refusing to get it.

You doubt the free marketplace's "autharahtah"?
They have been on all these years because they DON'T make people laugh? Right.

Posted by TIKI AL at April 16, 2006 06:59 AM

Scout: when will you quit proselytizing? For some of us, the Bible is just an afternoon read, not the word of God (if there is one). Seriously, cut it out. You are a bright person, but apparently really screwed up.

On another note, have any of you seen William Donohue. I will describe him perfectly. He Looks like, Sounds like, and Talks like Archie Bunker.
Enough said!

Posted by oc democrat at April 16, 2006 09:14 AM

the boys at South park are the only public figures to really face the horror and hypocrisy of the media in America today. The show in question was genius, as have been most of their offerings. Who else can put together a biting and witty commentary on current issues so quickly and with such honesty and courage. Did you see the Afghani goat episode, or the Romanian quintuplets episode? Who else speaks the truth, about jingoism, censorship and the utter arrogance of power? PS -- the depiction of Jesus and the flag was in a reaction cartoon from Muslim authorities. Have you ever seen the real cartoons, anti-christian and anti-zionist, that the Saudi and other media publish regularly. South Park looks like Peanuts next to them...
