Funny you should mention this. I don't have a car, so last year on Easter I took the bus all the way to Target only to find it was closed! Target is never closed, it seems, so being closed on Easter seemed really weird. There was no Target circular in the paper yesterday, so I assume they were closed again this year.

Posted by snark at April 17, 2006 12:41 PMWell, I'm sure scout will be happy to explain in 5 short paragraphs why those shopkeepers are whores and will all go to hell. But maybe I'm not going to the right places, 'cos it seemed like a normal Sunday here in PAC NW - rain and traffic.
Posted by iamcoyote at April 17, 2006 12:42 PMWas yesterday some kind of holiday?
Posted by Cookie Monster at April 17, 2006 12:56 PMscout called Hillary Clinton a whore on Easter Sunday. Perhaps the Lord has sent him to hell.
Posted by TIKI AL at April 17, 2006 01:15 PMThey were all out on Lake Hartwell, SC. The lake was teeming with boats and skimpily clad Christians.
The nesting Great Blue Herons were too busy to care what we stupid humans did. They didn't even mind me taking pictures.
Posted by Michael Miller at April 17, 2006 01:15 PMMM, great pics, did I somehow miss the scantily clad potential lion food?
Posted by TIKI AL at April 17, 2006 01:21 PMMM, great pics, thanks.
TIKI, yeah, it appears the delusional thread killer couldn't keep up the "kook" substitution for long. He apparently also claims that only a certain few will make it into heaven and babies, the mentally ill, and anyone else who hasn't heard the "good news" are SOL. Even Falwell doesn't make that claim, as far as I know.
Posted by iamcoyote at April 17, 2006 01:47 PMPeople can only buy so much bunny realated crap on easter, it pales in comparison to Christmas when people but things in the name of baby jesus.

Posted by PABLO at April 17, 2006 02:42 PMI have another take on why more stores were closed, as I noticed also. This Country is at war and on a course of destruction. Perhaps some people, more than ever, felt a need to be in churches and praying for a Country gone insane.

[Editor: ignore=off]Whole Foods was open and doing a booming business. But as I was reflecting over the weekend, I realized that the "No Child Left Behind Act" that's underfunded and breaking public schools is really religious code-talk. As in "No child left behind in the rapture because we're going to drive them all to private Christian schools." Guess I'm a little slow on the uptake.
Posted by Garbo at April 17, 2006 03:42 PMI'd think Easter would be a big brunch day.
If not, the restaurants need to hire some promotional managers.
Posted by muckdog at April 17, 2006 03:47 PMmy wife and I tried to go to In-N-Out in Pasadena and it was closed. but the family that owns it is supposed to be very religious. just look for the bible verses stamped on the bottom rim of their cups or on french fry paper baskets.
oh, and the freeways weren't empty around 8PM. they were packed. all those Christians going home, i guess.

[Editor: ignore=off]I read your website regularly and find a lot of it informative, but sometimes you (collectively) go "left-wing extremist". PERHAPS, many of us went to church yesterday to pray:
1. that things will change in our country for the better
2. that people who frequently invoke the name of Christ become more compassionate and caring of those less fortunate
3. that we will all become less materialistic and focus on improving the places we live by consuming less and preserving more of our natural surroundings.
That is where I was yesterday; maybe SOME of the retail workers were doing the same. Over-generalizing and stereotyping are not attractive qualities.

Whatever the fuck that means.
It's sad, really...the Progressives are the ones who should embrace Christ, if one truly understands His mission and message. Instead, He is rejected by many of the same because He has been hijacked by reichwing hypocrites who wouldn't know Him if He slapped them upside their half-evolved heads. And the progressives, instead of reclaiming Him, write Him off and let the loonies bastardize the shit out of what Christianity really means.
Might I suggest soujorners ( http://www.sojo.net/ )?
Whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers, motherfuckers.
Posted by God Of War at April 17, 2006 09:31 PMYou have heard the commandment, 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.' But what I say to you is: offer no resistance to injury. When a person strikes you on the right cheek, turn and offer him the other.
or just kill brown people and complain about the poor, whatever.
Posted by jesus at April 18, 2006 09:11 AMjesus is right, as he often is. that 'turn the other cheek' and 'least of these' crap was written thousands of years ago. This is 2006.
Posted by dubya at April 18, 2006 09:14 AMThat's funny. If the "Rapture," which is another lie of the psuedo-religious right, actually happened, and they were the ones taken away, then this Christian (and I am a real Christian) would not be bothered in the least. I think our government would be cleaned up, New Orleans would probably be cleaned up faster too. Lots of good things would happen.
Of course, where these loony neo-con right-wingers would go would be one messed up place.
Let's hope that, as Jesus said, the meek will inherit the earth. After all, they aren't meek, they are trying to mess it up and we'd be better off without them. Our version of the rapture would be truly rapturous for those left behind.
