Posted by at April 28, 2006 06:33 AMBush has finally gotten religion over CAFE standards....I just heard on CNN that he's actually discussing raising fuel efficiency standards on cars. One can only wonder why such an old idea wasn't included in his famous "Energy Bill."
My guess is that after a few press conferences getting this message into the media, he'll drop it like a hot potato once gas prices go down a smidgeon. Just another attempt to pander to the voters before midterms.
Posted by ann at April 28, 2006 06:40 AMHe always just wanted to be Johnny Carson ............ Well he's failed. He's just a hack version of Johnny with a nuclear arsenal.

"This is how I saluted when I was in."

Posted by Dilapidus at April 28, 2006 09:12 AMC'mon guys, give Little Peter a break.
He is, after all, just sitting in a cubicle doing his job. I'm just curious if he gets a flat fee or is paid by the post?
I'm guessing east coast. Gets in around 8am just in time for the daily meeting from 8:30 to 9:30 where they are handed their talking points. Then its off to the races with their 50 or so identities.
Posted by Simp at April 28, 2006 09:13 AMSince Bush fumbles his words a bit and makes up a few new ones along the way, I imagine he believes he's giving the media the Vulcan "Live long and prosper" hand salute.
Posted by muckdog at April 28, 2006 09:22 AMOr are Republicans just doing a better job right now?
A better job at returning earmarks to their constuencies, perhaps, governing, no. Perhaps you missed it but they've so destroyed FEMA, an agency that worked under every other President since its creation, that they want to dissmantle it. FEMA is so dysfunctional that it can't even be fixed. That's how Republicans work. Great at (dirty) politics, shitty at governing. And the job is governing, not trying to maintain party control.
Since you always bring it up peter, here is the latest from George Will on "Dukes" vacant seat.
Posted by bbtb at April 28, 2006 09:27 AMTalk to the hand, cause i'm not really listening!

From anyone else this would have been marginally funny.
Everytime I read your comments it's like Fozzie Bear's absolutely convinced that this time you'll be taken as a serious economist, er, comic.
