Speaking as a "devout" agnostic, I turned off George Wurlitzer Bush when I heard the exclusionary phrase "nation under God", during his economy crowjob today.

I then stared in disbelief at my property tax bill, which tripled this year, and my gasoline bill which doubled during the current Bush reign of terror.

Maybe he's "jawbonin awl" prices down like he said he'd do back during the 2000 campaign.

And to think a co-worker actually tried to convince me that two oilmen would mean lower prices for gasolene. Some people will believe anything.

Some people will believe anything.

Take scout/pedophile for instance.

Jaw boning takes on a whole new meaning in the Guckert/Gannon/Dubya parlance: it's actually bone jawwing. (;>

Its time to nationalize the oil industry. No matter how poorly the government runs things, it can't be worse that the screwing the oil companies are giving us. Put Brownie in charge.

For war how he hungered and lust,
Now it’s all turning to dust.
Gas so high,
Don’t look to the sky.
Not even in God can you trust.

Your post is sad but true. But thanks for mentioning the Apollo Project. You're the only blog I've run across other than mine thats even mentioned it.

Bush says there is no evidence of price gouging. Has he looked into it? Spitzer seems to feel otherwise. Bush instinctively does the oil companies' bidding.

Posted by bob h at April 29, 2006 04:08 AM

All this political jawboning about the price of energy is typical politician BS reacting to a crisis is a way that is not meant to seriously offer real appraisals and workable solutions, but only to try and make the other party look bad.

In my view, the only thing that would provide short term relief from the steady rise in energy costs would be demand destruction. Either in the form of significant and sudden conservation measures (unlikely) or worldwide economic recession/depression. In the long term, industrialized societies, especially ours with its cheap oil dependent development paradyme, are in deep shit.

Right now, demand for crude oil and refined product have surpassed the ability of the world energy industry to supply that demand. Renewable energy makes sense in a self-sustaining economic model, but it will in no way provide enough energy for an economy that is entirely depended upon suicidal overconsumption.

Posted by brisa at April 29, 2006 12:03 PM

Right on, brisa, but those little energy facts you recount are simply not addressed by anyone at all in government.

The Republicans are still cutting Amtak funding, for Christ's sake!

The people are utterly unprepared for how bad this is going to be, and I guess no one in government is going to break the news to them too soon.

We are not managing expectations very well here, and when the reality of our energy disaster has to be openly acknowledged, look for some real authoritarian, militarist solutions to raise their ugly heads.

Conservation? Won't even be seriously advanced.
