Um, maybe if her husband gets out of the defense industry? She's acting perfectly rationally for someone whose bread is buttered with Pentagon lard.
Posted by mamayaga at May 9, 2006 04:35 AMThis is what completely annoys me about this party - every single time we have the upper hand going in, as we do (well, did before DiFi opened her mouth) in this case, one of the usual suspects gives the damn thing away. When you have Republicans questioning one of their own, you don't smile and chirp brightly that you think everything is just peachy.
The CIA is in a shambles partly by design and party because our congress seems to think a quick solution is the best solution. I agree that it would be best if a competent new director were in place ASAP, but only if the agency hadn't ALREADY been so deliberately and willfully mismanaged. Why throw more gasoline on the fire when you have a chance to nail down the arsonist?
Posted by littlesky at May 9, 2006 04:59 AMNot only the hidious Queen of war profiteering, Sen. DiFi, but DINO Rep. Jane Harmon and of course, Bush's favorite Democrat, Joementum.
Nauseating, one and all.
Posted by Christopher at May 9, 2006 05:01 AMNo big surprise. Why doesn't the drooling douchebag just retire? What is she, about 100 now? Time to go to the old folks home and take Joementum with her.

These are the folks determined to keep dems in minority status as long as they keep getting their cut.
There is growing concern about the military control of intelligence, so I do believe that it would be good for General Hayden to resign his commission so that a civilian was in charge of the CIA and I believe there will be questions about this issue during the hearing.
The kind of thinking expressed in the above quote has always bothered me.
The concern is expressed as a military person's control of the intelligence agency.
The solution proposed is the resignation of his military commission.
The ridiculousness of that proposed solution is that the man still possesses a military mindset, and still has the same circle of contacts and influences that were his before the proposed resignation of his commission.
I don't understand how anyone can be so simple-minded as to think that performing an administrative act (resigning military commission) suddenly transforms the character of the person and the context of his motives and intents.

The response was what it always is; "and your zip code is..."
Posted by Cordier at May 9, 2006 07:10 AMThe Dems have taken the bait that Hayden was supposedly a clever "political" choice engineered by KKKarl as another vehicle to make Dems look soft on "national security" if they opposed him. Hence, numbers of them are saying nice things---actually almost all of them are saying nice things.
Thus, Hayden's clear violation of FISA when he ran NSA vanishes---"the consultants say don't oppose him!" And naturally that means that the other possiblities involved in the pick (Negroponte v. von Rumsfeld, unauthorized intell reorg of mission responsibilies) are either not believed, or become secondary to the "politics".
It's fun to pay Kremlinology with our new secret veiled government, with all it new players, positions, relationships and tensions, with nothing as it seems and no position ever forthrightly stated.
My Bushco-watching convictions: the power of the military must always be increased, and those that are sticklers for following the "law" are not put into positions of authority.

Posted by at May 9, 2006 10:12 AMSnark, ‘tongues 101,’ that’s rich. Be advised that the kook tongue phenomenon is merely another form of ‘Christian’ confusion. Indeed, most ‘Christians’ would quickly ally themselves with your counter ideology, and they have.
Ok. So we have more depraved Christians. Excuse me, that's 'Christians'. My counter ideology?
Do you believe that our ‘multi-national,’ or, de facto corp government, would stay in the US after first fragmenting, then destroying every social institution constructed in the name of profit and power?
The depraved government.
Now, just how do you think our corp boys did it? By honesty? Straightforwardness? Fear of God? No, they did it by promoting death and destruction of all those Uncle Phil’s out there...
And depraved corporations.
From personal experience, I can tell you that our women were tough, tough, tough during the 50’s and 60’s.
More ruminations on the good old days.
There are no longer any tough teachers, male or female; further, women teachers today seduce their students with ‘friendship,’ and various forms of self esteemism, both promote not only a total lack of meaningful learning, but enhances innate depravity.
Oops! Looky here. More depravity. Depraved teachers.
In a couple paragraphs, I have pointed out what is taboo: the social destruction of our entire educational system, indirectly. Now, that’s power.
God-like. One could almost say.
Oddly, while all educational players are aware that our system has failed, where do they look? At government,...
Odd indeed. I seem to recall a vast amount of resistance amongst educators to Bush's Federal takeover of our educational system.

Posted by Donald Cormac at May 9, 2006 10:58 AMDianne isn't being played. She's always been a republican at heart. But republicans don't get elected in San Francisco. She's a Pacific Heights matron, whose political career decades ago had hit the proverbial brick wall. But mayor George Moscone and city supervisor Harvey Milk were assasinated in Black November of '78. She was in the right place at a tragic moment- as president of the board of supervisors, she ascended to the mayor's office. She handled herseld with a native dignity and grace during a terrible, terrible time for San Francisco (recall that only two weeks prior to the shootings, Jim Jones had murdered his compound in Guyana). In gratitude for those qualities, she was re-elected, which served as the foundation on which she ran her senate campaign. But no mayor of San Francisco can cause too much damage. Unfortunately, that's less true in congress, and there, time and again, she has aligned herself with the vicious policies of the equally vicious GOP.

Posted by snark at May 9, 2006 11:04 AMThis is why Jehovah gave us the following chain of command: Christ, husband, wife, and children.
Praise god! Someone finally had the balls to say what the real problem happens to be in America. Women simply don't know their place. I, too, long for the good old days when we could stone women and children to death for their transgressions. The vagina...a sacred orifice that must be controlled!
Women are NOT leaders: they lack abstract comprehension, and for several reasons.
Exactly my point! Women cannot be great leaders. Their vaginas prevent it. And you, as a historian, know this all too well. Women are hosebags who are to keep the house clean...and I hope you reinforce that to your female students. I realize it must be tough for an historian as informed as yourself to find examples of women who led, so I offer you a list of 2 or 3 women below. Maybe one of your students could write a paper on one of these women and teach you something?
Of course, I personally think all of these people were gay men (who should be stoned to death as a fate befitting all faggots):

Crap, with our airhead women and the homosexuals running everything, we have a black and white every day.
What kind of sexist dren is this?
It looks to me as though the religiously insane are the ones screwing all of this stuff up. Hypocrisy, sham morality (for everyone else but themselves), racism and sexism dressed up as religious doctrine, and intolerance of anything but their own brand of religious insanity. For starters. They have some convenient targets to demonize on their way towards legislating their partilcular form of morality as the law of the land.
People like scout are dangerous, especially if they are in the school system, spreading their religious insanity to the nation's youth. They will seduce young children into their deviant lifestyles, and pretty soon everyone will be abusing children in the lord's name. They should be prevented from adopting children and bringing their abuse into innocent lives.
Early on, when I tried to gently point out what the little twit was doing when she opens her mouth without understanding, the defensive shield rises, etc. I am just as helpless as all the whores they hire to 'run the schools.'
You know, right before I bailed on a clinical career, I did an interview with a guy who had some real problems (liked physcially hurting women very very badly). He always referred to women who had a supervisory or control capacity over him as 'whores.' As a child, his mother always told him how dirty sex was, and how all women were dirty whores. She then had sex with him from the time he was about 6 years old until he was in his 20s. He was a really fucked up individual, and I get shades of this same psychopathology from scout.

Posted by ann at May 9, 2006 12:11 PMThere is growing concern about the military control of intelligence, so I do believe that it would be good for General Hayden to resign his commission so that a civilian was in charge of the CIA and I believe there will be questions about this issue during the hearing.
What's that definition of mercenary again?

phid, you left out Golda Meir.
No. The whore, Golda, is in there. How do you know she's a whore? Your mom told you so? She told you all women are whores, and all women are dirty? All women want is to control you, so don't trust them?
‘Homosexuals’ always find an numerical increase with the increase in real political power of women.
You are absolutely nuts. That's a clinical diagnosis. Boost your Risperidone intake, please. Hell, just take the whole bottle and see what happens. Better yet, go have sex with a man -as you surely long to do- and get it out of your system (or would that be in?).
Why would anyone think that 13,000 years of family institutions, across cultures, is wrong?
That's how you dominionists justify concubines and slavery, and stoning whores and children too death (those that you wouldn't burn). Some family values, eh? Well, if you dominionists come into power, I'm paying your wife $5.00 to say you cheated on her (although I bet she would say it for free). Since I'm without sin, at least the ones I didn't get caught for, the first stone will be mine.

It is way past time to show these career politicos the door. I don't care what party they belong to. Straight shooters alone might be spared. (Ron Paul, Russ Feingold, et al).
The Hillary Clintons, Diane Feinsteins, Joe Bidens, John Kerrys, Joe Leibermans, Trent Lotts, Bill Frists and Ted Kennedys need to hit the bricks.
I've got to believe that your average American would make better decisions than these clowns we call CONgressmen. I say clean house and force the lobbyists and blackmailers to start over.
Posted by brisa at May 9, 2006 04:50 PM"..it’s really not about party distinctions, they work in tandem both slightly against each other, even while they both work for our corporation leaders and their money handlers".
In a sense, that's irrefutable. But if the past 12 years have proven one thing, it's that the Bushite/GOP machine is an unadulterated criminal organization. Say what you will about the democratic party- and, believe me, I already have- the rampant and stinking corruption in D.C. during the past 5 years can be laid directly at the feet of the republican party. It is rotten to its core.
Posted by Sonoma at May 9, 2006 05:47 PMphid, did you miss the Bolshevik whore, Margaret Mead? yeah. Be advised that the DSM changed ‘homosexuality’ from perversion to whatever in about 1995.
Margaret Mead? Great researcher. She found everything she hypothesized to exist and went looking for (whether it existed or not).
Homosexuality is only a disorder if the person is uncomfortable with it. You know, like discomfort with women -just to give you something you can identify with. Maybe I'm get a little empathy going here?
Homosexuality was removed from the DSM as a disorder in 1973. Psychiatrists and psychologists spent years testing, and prodding and trying to change this "behavior" because they thought it was a learned behavior. As such, they thought it could be unlearned. They were unsuccessful. They institutionalized people. Castrated people. Lobotomized people. Gave electro-convulsive therapy to people. Medicated people. All to no avail.
Then someone had the bright idea of asking the heterosexual psychiatrists and psychologists questions like, "What makes you heterosexual? When did you first know you were heterosexual?" etc. As a group, they came to the conclusion that the only thing making a homosexual different was who they were attracted to. Nothing else. They recognized from their own experiences that these people had not made a choice, and that these people were abnormal only by description in the DSM, not in fact. That's why it was dropped. Homosexuals, bi-sexuals, heterosexuals, tri-sexuals (don't get me started. Sheep will flirt with you. Don't think they won't! They aren't ba-aa-ad) are all normal. Human sexuality, in all it's rich variety, is generally normal.
Of all the things I tell students, I think the absolute best advice I give them is that the sex is of the person you love is unimportant. What is important is that you do have someone to love and share those things with that you can share with no other person. Without that, life becomes shallow and empty.
Do you suppose little Bush would have won, if not for all the homosexual deviants running around making a mockery of our institution of marriage?
As I remember, it was people just like you -afraid of homosexuals- who voted in droves. So, would you rather be around a smart married faggot or a stupid president? People made a choice.
and even the organized science of psychological common sense agreed, once upon a time.
We also had the "Chair of Tranquility." A chair mounted on a greased axle. You would strap a person in it and spin them in circles until they passed out. A miracle cure for odd behavior. Too bad we gave that one up.
what do you think the current DSM thinks of unborn infanticide?
I think some of the older DSMs included something I think they called PAS or PASS? Post Aborton Stress Syndrome. Some women have to make a tough decision. I think all I've ever heard is non-judgemental support for women from the reputable Docs and clinicians I know. It's all PTSD to me.
Read the Biblical account of Mt. Carmel
Okay. Very nice. Some of it is like Song of Solomon. So I like that. My grapes dangeleth, etc.
So, since were trading bible verses, you talk about whores and faggots and criminals and all these people you want to treat like shit. How can you ignore this? Why has it no meaning for you?
"As you have done unto the least of these, you have done unto me."/i> (Matthew 25:31-46).
I'm sure you've read this Jehovah statement, and all of Matthew 25. I know what it tells me. Are the words different for you? Is there some exclusion I missed? A get out of humanity free card I'm unaware of?
