Comments: Reid and Frist Reach Agreement On Immigration Reform Bill

The republi-cons cannot let immigration reform pass. They popped this can of worms in December thinking it was a winner among their "supporters" and would lead to an election win in 06. The big problem is they didn't foresee their little brown brothers rising-up en masse. They also failed to recognize that it is largely republi-cons who employ these immigrants, and need these low wage non-benefit workers to support their bottom lines. Meat packing shut down last Monday, and their lobbyests are making it clear that this is a no win situation for repulsive-cons.

As a "card carrying cynic", my first thought is that Frist will throw a stink bomb.

I think it's almost a certainty that the democrats will take control of at least one house, and probably both in '06.

Make that both houses if Bumbling Bush bombs Iran, which may be imminent.

Immigration reform is one of several straw devils calculated to change the subject, draw the headlines and cameras away from Iraq. It's backfiring big time. Not only do the R-cons employ and need the illegals, a significant part of the evangelicals, Catholics as pointed out are against it. Getting them to vote Democratic is another issue. Stay home is probably the best possible case. A vote for a Democrat is a ticket to hell for them, another straw devil used successfully to get Bush elected.

It's still the economy stupid. And that now hinges on what China does. Are they, the Chinese manipulating their currency's exchange rate? Did Bush manipulate intellegence reports? Immigration reform is a change the subject straw devil but there are real devils that also grind on R-cons. It's the economy that hinges on what China does. China puts muissionarys in jail. Bush is beholding to that group, godnicks. It's a ball of snakes and the R-cons are getting bit dancing with it.

Faith keeps being Bush's big bugaboo. He's getting proof that it's impossible to please people with one track minds. To the evangelicals putting missionarys in jail violates human rights. They can only be happy if everyone lives their lives according to their rules. To the Chinese putting imaginary supernatural beings in people's minds violates human rights. They too can only be happy when everyone lives their lives according to their rules. Which set of rules most closely approximates the constitution? Could they both be wrong? Which mind set is easiest to change?

What's the problem with immigration that it needs to be fixed? Latinos are people too. What they have done is point out how they are now a necessary part of the overall economy. Doing nothing fixes it.

Somehow this has to be a win-win. Look, our high skilled jobs are being outsourced to India. So, why don't our high skilled workers follow their jobs to India, and take a 75% pay cut (but the cost of living there is so much lower). And the Indians who are displaced by Americans come over here and take some more of our jobs. And we keep up the process until the US is filled with nothing but immigrants, rock stars, lawyers, politicians and their servants.

Okay so it's not the best of all worlds but I like to find the bright side. I used to work in PR. Sue me.

Looks like the primary advantage of not being in power is not being responsible for, you know, having ideas or anything.

How in the hell have the Democrats managed to make the immigration issue an entirely Republican responsibility?

It's truly amazing.

Just standing back watching you guys run the show. Why intercede when you guys are cutting your own throats. Poll numbers indicate it's working.
