Single Bullet Spector...nice. We've had a couple variations of that one at Good Nonsense...

Steve,

When the story broke last Thursday, I called ATT and demanded to know of they'd relased my phone records to the NSA.

The rep just quoted from a prepared script.

When I asked if they'd recieved many calls from customers, the young woman giglled and said, "hardly any."

They're all lying dirtbags.

Ask Snow what color bush's dog is.

Answer: Can't tell ya, it's a national security issue.

They're turning everything into a "national security" issue. It's a licence to lie.

Verizon admitted they were up to something in response to my complaint. They said, don't worry, we didn't hand over information on Verizon wireless customers, only landline customers. I'd cut and paste but my hotmail isn't working right now (what a shock).

So basically, because Bush lies about everything, he's telling the companies to do the same. That should get him out of being impeached for lying, if "everyone's doing it." Sheesh, just like raising a teenager... "But Mom! They're all doing it!"

Steve, when you reported yesterday that the telecom companies were denying they had turned over the records, something made me wonder if the White House had gotten to them.

if the president does it, it's not illegal. if the president tells someone to do it, it's not illegal

I'm no legal expert, so can someone please explain the memorandum? It's all full of jargon that I don't understand. How did it authorize phone companies to lie?

What is happening now at the Whitehouse reminds me of a leaky boat. As one spot springs a leak a board is quickly nailed over it, only to see a new leak happen somewhere else. Secret projects, briefings to congress that are classified so they can't be discussed even if they reveal illegal activity, executive orders, and firing people who may know to much are all examples.

The last time this sort of ad hoc attempt at bailing out the ship of state happened was with Nixon. It didn't work.

I recently speculated that Bush would resign. My best guess at the scenario: Cheney "retires" for health reasons, Bush appoints a new VP who is favored by the GOP as a good choice for 2008. Bush resigns and the new VP becomes president putting him in a good position to win in 2008. "See we cleaned house, it was just a few bad apples, vote GOP."

The only question was when this would happen. Before November to boost GOP chances during the election or after January so the new president won't have served a "full term" and can be reelected twice for a total of ten years in office.
