It sure looks like ol' Ralphy is about to bite Rudy on the neck (to suck his very red blood silly). Reed is starting to look like The Picture of Dorian Gray - not so much the pretty boy anymore. Worrying about pending indictments can do that to a person, I s'pose. Giuliani and McCain have hitched their political stars to a couple of handbaskets headed straight to Hell. Maybe the caption on that photo should read: "Hail Satan!" (:>
Posted by Donald Cormac at May 19, 2006 12:36 PMthey are all whores. the right makes strange bedfellows, and now they are out against gay marriage? whatever gets the vote. change and adapt is a good thing; however kerry did it and he's a flip flopper. all of the repubs do it, and it is glossed over in the sclm. over the pond we get a steady diet of rush, fox, and wolf. can we get some real news, with real content? what are the real issues over there? katrina, iraq, and iran. gay marriage is a non issue. but wait, lets stir up the base and see what we get? can congress address real issues, real problems that effect my wallet. of course not. the rich get richer, the middle class gets smaller, and the poor well who gives a damn? let the trolls begin, but can they speak on original, pertinent issues? i think not. they hung their hats on gwb and these shrills in congress. well, your phone is tapped, the u.s. is fallen in the world's eyes, and our kids have more debt than we can imagine, now tell me why should a repub be in office again???
Posted by anthony at May 19, 2006 12:48 PMCouldn't agree more the right sure does make strange bedfellows....
Can you imagine the dust up that will follow when the flock turns on reed and his like. (several fundy pubs have already turned on Reed)
I think more will follow when they discover a new so called anti-gambling bill is really pro gambling. Although I doubt the 700 club picks up items in the WSJ....
FYI Christian Coalition supports this bill that is written up by WSJ today:
AND THEY’RE OFF: On eve of Saturday’s Preakness, horse-racing lobbyists race to preserve online betting. House Judiciary Committee takes up legislation next week barring credit-card processing of Internet wagers, but sponsor Goodlatte of Virginia exempts horse-race bets.
My husband is a moderate republican. He was talking about how he keeps in touch with a former co-worker who, being from Pakistan, sometimes calls Pakistan. And so in the big phone record database, my husband talks to someone who talks to Pakistan. Then out of the blue he got a call from a guy he used to work with at another company. He asked that guy if he was worried that the NSA now has a record of him calling my husband who somewhat regularly talks to someone who regularly calls Pakistan. He went on from there, speculating on what they could and might do with that and other data from emails, etc. He read an article that basically said all of us, at least once, have hesistated in making a call, sending an email, posting on a blog, and that in itself is a loss of freedom. In the fight for freedom, we're losing our freedom, but those in power don't see the irony.
Bottom line, I don't think my husband will be voting for anyone who courts the "crazy base" as Jon Stewart put it. And if he does, he might have to find himself a new wife ;).
Posted by CG at May 19, 2006 01:46 PMAnybody looked into Focus on the (white, right wing) Family's monkeying around with the Air Force Academy? Some bizarre stuff goin on there.

Yep. I've got a friend who is married to a man from Yemen, and I feel that same twinge of hesitation whenever I get in touch with them. Even posting on this blog, responding to online petitions, writing letters to the editor...all of it makes me wonder who might be taking note.

Never in a million years would I have imagined this 5 years ago, but yup, I know what you mean. It's hard to recognize America these days.

You are so right. I knew Bush would screw things up but I had no idea it would be creepy on top of fucked up. Whoever comes into office in 2008 is going to have quite a mess on their hands.
Posted by ann at May 19, 2006 02:14 PMI felt the same twinge when I've sent encouraging emails to Riverbend, just to let her know someone's out here listening. I always worry when she doesn't post for a long time.
Posted by iamcoyote at May 19, 2006 02:18 PMI see nothing wrong with that photo. Two corrupt politicians campaigning together. The real issue is which one is more corrupt.
Posted by dole4pineapple at May 19, 2006 03:17 PMAfter I sent Sen. Kyl a letter wanting him to support censure of the pRe$ident. I received my second census form in less than 2 years.
I say, keep tabs on me, my sister works for the DoD at CENTCOM!
In the fight for freedom, we're losing our freedom, but those in power don't see the irony.
Not exactly. They just don't acknowledge it, but they are aware. They want to huddle the masses into a nice easy to observe, controllable little box.
They don't give rats ass about freedom and personal liberties. Its all about holding onto power. The ambiguous, never ending "war on terror" is designed, specifically for that purpose.
Posted by simp at May 19, 2006 04:28 PMAll true.
Posted by CG at May 19, 2006 05:55 PMWho's Riverbend?
Posted by CG at May 19, 2006 05:56 PMCG, Riverbend is an Iraqi woman living in Bagdhad, who has been blogging since before the war. Through that whole time, up to now, she's given a very vivid picture of what it's been like, since the beginning of the war, from a woman's perspective. She's funny, smart, eloquent, and brutally honest. If you've never read her stuff, it might be fun to read some archives, and then see how she's changed now. She hasn't posted since the 2nd, so I'm kinda getting worried.
Posted by iamcoyote at May 19, 2006 06:13 PMCoyote, I'd love for River to post more often, but I also understand she's in a tenuous position between power, water, religious thugs, and issues about her identity. I don't honestly become concerned for her until about a month has passed.
Worry is another matter - I worry for her all the time.
Posted by idiosynchronic at May 19, 2006 06:20 PMSo true, idio. I worry for her, her cousins and her neighbors. And don't bust me, it's almost been a month.
Posted by iamcoyote at May 19, 2006 06:46 PMCG, that same thought has crossed my mind. My Sister and I were discussing the hesitancy now in signing that petition, or leaving that post, or writing that letter. My next thought was "they have already won."
Posted by Judith at May 19, 2006 09:37 PMI read Riverbend and Al Jazeera News. I also know that probably puts me on some list of 'people seeking truth', which of course, is no longer allowed.
Riverbend has always been in danger and that danger is most likely not from Iraqis.
Posted by Judith at May 19, 2006 09:46 PMThe Pope has defined The Culture of Life; caring for the suffering, the poor, and no euthanasia, suicide, murder, abortion, or the death penalty.
Republicans pick and choose as if it’s multiple choice. They support the death penalty in a most un-Christian manner, directly contradicting “Thou shall not kill” and “Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord.” This is NOT the Culture of Life. I score Republicans about 57%, with a worsening effect on the remainder.
GOD spoke of immigrants in Leviticus19:33-34, “And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.”, “[But] the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.” Doesn’t seem like Republicans listen.
Here’s Bin ladin, post 9/11: "The battle has moved to inside America. We will work to continue this battle, God permitting, until victory or until we meet God, I tell you, freedom and human rights in America are doomed. The U.S. government will lead the American people into an unbearable hell and a choking life." That’s the agenda Bush is supporting.

(Kinda like Hillary, only many more people here despise him).
