Comments: The Good Christian Terrorist

the great beauty of freedom of speech is that it allows imbeciles to open their mouths, the result invariably being that they reveal so much more about themselves than whatever topic it is they think they are discussing

if the Patriot Act can, as you suggest, be used to to bring criminal charges against this guy, that is only greater reason to get rid of it

similar to defending the rights of Nazis to march in Skokie, I defend the right of this poltroon to engage his little masturbatory fantasy

if this idiot can be criminally prosecuted for his words, make no mistake that the folks in his ideological camp wil not hesitate to find criminal fault with your words, and try to come after you

much better to have these loons out in the open, where we can see them, than have them operate from hiding, from where they may be more inclined to actually act out their fantasies

Nowhere do I suggest that he can't say what he wants, or that he should be shut down for doing so. The main reason I brought up the Patriot Act is to point out that under its provisions he is subject to a terrorism charge for the acts he "imagines".

Getting rid of the Patriot Act is absolutely necessary if anyone's right to speak is to be protected. There is no doubt in my mind that the Right intends to use this law against the Left, but what is there in my comments that suggests I advise or support terrorist activities? Such activities as he presents goes against everything I ever learned about America.

I doubt that being out in the open will prevent one of these morons from taking such actions, especially if nothing happens to this guy. They feed upon each other for motivation, and nothing is going to prevent them from acting if they choose to do so. Publishing such crap is sure to get at least one of these "godly" men thinking that it's now his duty to take such an action. Historically, we have already had John Brown who felt this way. I have no doubt that there are many others out there just like him, just waiting for the "divine inspiration" to go forth and murder for God.

In my more than 60 years of experience, it seems that the "Christian" fundies increasingly base their religion on Joshua and other warfare books of the O.T. and never really get to the love thy neighbor part of the N.T.

I have problem with equating this jerk with John Brown. Although violence is NOT the answer remember John Brown was trying to free slaves not threatening to kill someone over a different point of view. By any standard slavery was a crime against humanity. Not quite the same situation at all.

The comparison is the desire to use violence in the name of ending a great wrong. John Brown sought to inspire a slave revolt, allowing them the "honor" of killing their masters. Byron sought to inspire the "good Christians" to rise up against the evil liberals who are preventing God's pResident from achieving His goals. Both require that someone else take the action to end something that the inspirer belives to be wrong. Sort of like "Let's You and Him Fight." Both, with Brown having an honorable goal, acted in a dishonorable manner. Both were willing to spill innocent blood in their quest for righteousness.
