To find out more on how Disabled Veterans are being supported and treated by bu$hco check out my guest post at Low and Left.
Sorry for the shameless self-promotion, just trying to bring attention to the issue!

If those on Capitol Hill had the same bennies as most Americans, things would change in a hurry. As it is, they're the original Bubble Boys.

This is a brilliant connecting of the dots. My father said to me a few years ago as the economy first began tanking "soon, we'll all be taking in each other's laundry" but he was wrong--your assessment is correct. Soon, we will all be military support and our sons and daughters and husbands and wives will be selling their bodies like hessians overseas.

While supporting Bill Clinton's successful attempt to roll NAFTA over the dead bodies of his core constituents -- labor and liberal activists -- former president Gerald Ford said that if NAFTA wasn't approved, illegal immigrants will come to take jobs Americans are doing.

More than twelve years after the passage of NAFTA, America's ridiculous appetite for low prices coupled with businesses and homeowners' exploitation of illegal cheap labor has helped fulfill Ford's prediction.

Today, elitists and those who are addicted to cheap labor exploitation say that illegals are needed to do jobs that Americans won't do. What a country.

Where is the Democratic Party’s empathy and outrage for the economic plight of displaced and maligned working under-class Americans?

Why won’t the Democratic Party show first-world leadership by proposing trade policy reforms that eliminate NAFTA and help the Mexican government invest in infrastructures and businesses that create jobs for their citizens?

Unsettled? I don't even understand what this man is attempting to say any more. He's trying to deflect the fact that 70% disapprove of his job performance, I get that, but what does he think he is "explaining" through use of this word?

Was this the word the handlers told him to use, or that Karl said somewhere? Or is this another example of his "thinking"?

As to the lack of opportunities for the ordinary high school graduate in America, this is an important contributor to America's ever increasing militarism, unquestionably. Lack of reasonable alternatives is the reason that the "volunteer" military is still functioning, and will continue to do so, no matter how criminally the military is used or how dangerous the career "choice" really is.

It's either noble, virtuous "service" to the empire, or a scut job without health care as a servant to one of America's wealthy, making their lattes, cutting their lawn, cleaning their gutters, ferrying their groceries or dry cleaning, wiping their kids asses, or scrubbing their toilets. Hey, it's your "choice"!

As aimai observes, this is the situation many German peasants found themselves in in the eighteenth century and how they ended up carrying a musket in a faraway land attempting to quell insurgents against King George in another civil war.

The Hessians were an all volunteer force, too!

After Katrina when I saw the reports that the military recruiters were actively working the sites where the survivors were clinging together without the benefit of a strident FEMA structure to protect them, that this BushCo was putting its cards on the table. Somber post Pess, I hope it gets linked to alot today, all should read.

Well, shit, I knew this poverty was coming five years ago when this goon squad came into power. I'm still not planning to vote in any more elections; fuck this country for ALLOWING Bush to happen. It's all the media's fault, if you really, really examine it closely. We'll all end up in tent cities soon, resembling shattered New Orleans. I cannot believe Nagin won mayor again. He's like DC's Marion Barry, because he's AA, he's a saint.
