I will be glued to the news next summer, gripped by suspense--just how many hours will the Chalabi puppet regime last? And what will take its place? (My money is on Iraq splintering into at least two pieces.)
Nonetheless, it's a good thing that we're just getting the hell out--or, more accurately, it's a less bad thing than staying around in the vain hope that we could have "fixed" what was ailing the Middle East. It's clear that we had little to no chance of restabilizing Iraq; at least this way, fewer Americans will die pursuing the madness of King George.
Of course, in 5 or six years, when Al Qaeda and its new brethren decide to bring their activities out of the newly-created Iraqi petri dish, and back onto the American mainland, the decision to abandon our new colony will undergo some pretty harsh criticism. But given the facts on the ground, there was nothing else we could have done.
That's not much solace to those of us who knew that this could never turn out well. But it's better than having a quarter million Americans in the Middle East for the next five or ten years, waiting to get their asses shot off.
Posted by Matt Davis at November 15, 2003 03:11 PMThe number of deaths this month is really awful. Even before today's horrible incident, Lunaville was showing an average of 4.27 per day for this month. What will it be by next June (when Bush finally cuts and runs) just in time for the election run up?
Personally, I don't think that Chalabi will fly with the real Iraqis. Once the US goes, so will he.

If the draft comes back, Bush's twins have to go first.
When will these craven lying bastards ever suffer for all the suffering they've imposed on others? Probably never in this life.
GWB.RIH.

Yes, he will go, no doubt to Switzerland, with most of what's in the Iraqi treasury.
