Posted by at May 25, 2006 11:17 PMBush has no credibility and lo and behold the midterms are just five months away. If Bush wants to admit he made mistakes in Iraq, the only way he can convince people he's sincere is to fire Rumsfeld and force Cheney to resign and replace both men with people who are not clones and hold his breath six months so that all of us can know for certain that Bush has changed.
It ain't gonna happen. And as long as Cheney and Rumsfeld remain on the job, it's business as usual.

The real mistake, the one he will never admit, was using the flawed intelligence on WMDs and those 18 words about uranium. But he will never admit that was a mistake because then the whole war would be a mistake. This was as staged as him "taking responsibility" after Katrina. A pathetic attempt by his handlers to make him see human. I think only the core of his true believers bought it.

Posted by gtash at May 26, 2006 05:39 AMHey, remember that high tide of Democratic resistance to Nero Jr. last fall when they were actually telling the Idiot Nation that NERO LIED? That we were intentionally mislead into an illegal invasion? It undermined the citizenry's view of Nero and he and the Capital & Crucifix party were having fits.
Those were the days.
But then he complained about the "unfairness" of it, and Dems promptly shut their mouths.
What would the Idiot Nation think of Nero and the Republican Congress if Dems had spent the last 5 months explaining that Nero is also an intentional lawbreaker and Republicans literally don't care?
But why bother making the case? I'm sure we can just back our way into political power against a vicious criminal organization. KKKarl would definitely handle it the same way if the same plum fell into his lap.
Posted by euzoius at May 26, 2006 05:39 AMGeorge W. Bush is a pathological liar.
As someone once said about him: it's in the eyes. His eyes (like his soul) is dead and I think, and I believe, he's capable of great cruelty -- cruelty he enjoys carrying out.
This is arguably the most dangerous man we've ever had in the Oval Office.
He must be impeached. Are you listening Rep. Pelosi? HE MUST BE IMPEACHED.
Posted by Christopher at May 26, 2006 05:54 AMIts a simple class interest thing. The Dems have no fire because most of them come out of the same places, belong to the same clubs, and benefit from the same status quo with its cushy tax-breaks, shelters, revolving door, AIPAC "regime change" money etc as the Rethugs do. Its what gave "Teflon Ron" his teflon. Its why a guy like Obama shills for a guy like Lieberman. They have no vision and no balls because quarterly and end-of-the-year has no vision and no balls.

BTW, Lay and Skilling conviction was front page.
Bush and Poodle were front page of the Times, below the fold single column, no photo (photo inside on page A12). Decent article by Sanger and Jim Rutenberg if somewhat overdramatizing the dynamic duos contrition. Made mention of The Economists labelling of the Bush/Blair alliance as "The Axis of Feeble". Honestly, there really was no reason to report on this meeting. There was no substantive reason for it. Other than Blair's desire to visit the US one last time as Prime Minister.

He did get away with eating the canary. Frodo failed. Bush has the ring.
Look how successful Bush has been.
He has frightened and castrated all of Congress which has been reduced to a co-equal branch under the Unitary Executive with the Justice Department where squabbles over its papers are mediated by Daddy who says, I'll keep the toys until you kids can work something out. He has declared he is not bound by the laws passed by Congress. Congress has not issued a whisper of independence or any objection to Bush's power claim.
Bush has simply taken over the court system and has succeeded in stopping all of the citizen's attempts to resist unconstitutional acts by litigation by just saying, "No, no child, don't touch that, it's my secret. That's an adult toy not to be seen by you children!"
He has set up a secret court system operating exclusively under Article II of the Constitution with no appeal to any Article III Court and assumed the power to imprison and execute anyone he wishes without due process by his own decree, not subject to any constitutional limit. Bush has tortured and "dissappeared" many people without a trace or more than a whimper of protest.
In fact, Bush has simply said he is not subject to any limitation of his war powers and he has declared that all of North America is a battground under the Northern Command. He has declared that everything is now a matter of war and "National Security.
Bush has perfected the infrastructure of a surveillence state ruled by the Unitary Executive. He has access to total information awareness through private sources unreachable by any public oversight.
He has greatly limited the supply of oil in such a way that the good oil buddies can greatly enhance the value of their diminishing oil reserves and profits. There is a false sence of boom in the economy financed by an unsustainable debt and an internal rot as the productive capacity of the nation is shipped overseas.
Bush has the ring of power. He is unchecked. Now we will begin seeing how he uses it in the next few years.
What woes will beset the sleeping American citizenry who just cast more votes for the Idol than it did in the last presidential election. We will reap what we deserve. In its zest for militarization and superficial patriotism and frantic struggle for security in an inherently dangerous world, the citizenry failed to see it has escaped from the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and traded them for the destruction of the constitutional balance. September 11 was a great gift to Bush and he has used it skillfully.
Bush is not at the nadir of his power, he is just beginning to learn the true growth of it beyond all of his predecessors. Bush is now realizing he has freedom.
The question now is how he will rule?
