Rove wants the election to be on the economy? He might want to rethink that:
Posted by ann at May 30, 2006 08:03 AMPoor choice. The guy doesn't wear a flag lapel pin.
Posted by Gary at May 30, 2006 08:06 AMAnn,
I saw that too.
I can't believe Rove is serious about this and that it's not some kind of weird head fake. There were a lot of people who gave Bushco the benefit of the doubt leading up to the Iraq war--especially with all that "if you knew what we know" bs they were touting.
You can't fool people about the economy, no matter how you massage the stats. What with rising prices, stagnant wages and less job security, peoples' perceptions are based on what they, their families and friends are going through. Any attempt to spin that will make Bushco look more out of touch than ever.
Posted by joe frantic at May 30, 2006 08:18 AMYou know the appointment is simply for show because this guy, as chairman of the Nature Conservancy, has endorsed the Kyoto Protocol to limit greenhouse emissions and believes that the failure to enact it undermines the global competitiveness of American companies. This position is so diametrically opposed to Bu$hCo groupthink that he will have absolutely no influence in the Cabinet, if they even speak to him at all. I can understand what Bu$hCo gets out of it: a person with a resume that apparently doesn’t include the RNC or the Bu$h Pioneers, but what does he gain? He’s boarding a hydrogen-filled Zeppelin already struck by lightning heading into a thunderstorm.
Posted by red_neck_repub at May 30, 2006 08:20 AMThey know this guy well. Paulson was Erlichman's assistant in the White House during Watergate. He has been a team member and major beneficiary of Bush's policies for a long time. Just think how much information he will control?

Posted by peter at May 30, 2006 08:34 AMKool aid tasty today peter? Yeah, we know that the Democrats are afraid to run on ethics issues. The fact that he was "pressing legislation that would regulate" those he took the tickets from weakens your argument. I'll take whatever ethics issues that the Democrats have to deal with and you can keep the GOP ethic issues.
Posted by herbal tee at May 30, 2006 08:46 AMAnn is spot on because the rising mortgage defaults are the results of the growing number of ARMs whose rates are being reset. With the additional billions of discretionary spending being pulled out of the economy the consumer is rapidily leaving the building and walking... can't afford the gas.

Irrelevant personnel shuffle. Closer to elections we'll see all the true hot button issues unearthed. Constitutional amendments on flag burning, abortion and gay marriage. Anti-immigration agitation intensified. Hillary fearmongering. "Activist judge" whining. Rove is going to make this into a cultural war, "us against them", them being the godless secular humanists, effete Hollywood elitists, crazed tree hugging enviro-whackos, child buggering faggots and terrorist sympathizing liberals who want job robbing Mexicans illegally crossing the border with AIDS and suitcase nukes bound for your backyard. Ugly, ugly times ahead.

Hey. I like scandal as much as anyone. How's about the pretzledent making his girlfriend get an abortion? Or the lowest recorded flight test scores in military history? Or corporate fraud in every business he was associated with? Or the drug and alcohol binging and car wrecks? Or the homosexual affairs? Or the couldn't get elected dog catcher until Rove came along? Or the WMDs...terrorists...Saddam bad...bringing them freedom...bringing them democracy...bringing them liberty...failing in Afghanistan...failing to get Bin Laden...huge deficits...power grabs...destroying the greatest military force in the world...incompetence at all levels? How about these scandals?
You're right. Harry Reid taking a $200.-$1400. boxing ticket makes anything DeLay, Hastert, Santorum, the chimporer, and the refucklicans in general associated with Abramoff, pale in comparison.
Posted by phidipides at May 30, 2006 09:44 AMphid, unfortunately you're correct. The Democrats have been presented with an unprecedented level of scandal, graft and bribery to use against Republicans. Every instance of Democratic wrongdoing of any kind distracts greatly from beating Republicans over the head with their crimes. One Jefferson does equal 10 bad Repub apples in many people's minds like it or not. It all boils down to "everybody does it" or "they're all alike". Knowing that do Dems have anybody to blame but themselves (or their more errant members) if they fail to capitalize on the misdeeds of the criminal syndicate that is today's Republican Party?
Posted by steve duncan at May 30, 2006 09:58 AMG-Sachs must have some legislation needing ferried through Congress. I imagine they're also adept at moving large sums of money into anonymous offshore accounts.
Posted by steve duncan at May 30, 2006 10:20 AMsnark, I can't speak for Peter...
That would be a trick wouldn't it.
Be advised that old style gangsters (and I'm not talking about Bonnie and Clyde) are the precursors of our organized corporate criminals.
Nooooooo! Get outta here!
Further, the chain of command, historically, goes: money/financial handlers, old style gangsters, and the neo-gangsters of the modern corporations. All social front players fit in, wherever, (politicals and their Bolshevik ideologies).
Sometimes you awe me with your brilliance scout.
Thanks for being there for all of us.
Ahhhhhh....about those boxing tickets
Only, there is an exception for gifts from governmental agencies (like the Nevada Athletic Commission) in the Senate ethics rules. So there is nothing untoward about Reid having accepted the free tickets.
But it would still seem pretty bad if Reid had accepted the tickets and then stumped shamelessly for the commission.
Only, he didn't. As was the case with Abramoff and the Marianas, Reid voted against the peddler's interest. As Solomon admits in the piece, Reid was advocating "the creation of a federal boxing commission that Nevada's agency feared might usurp its authority." Reid never changed his position. And this was a dramatically uncontroversial piece of legislation largely preoccupied with ensuring the safety of boxers by creating the United States Boxing Administration. It passed the Senate unanimously.
Thanks for playing, peter.
Posted by ann at May 30, 2006 10:53 AMann, you're quoting facts. To trolls. A fruitless exercise if there ever was.........
Posted by steve duncan at May 30, 2006 10:57 AMReid didn't do anything illegal. period. But this fake scandal is typical of the GOP Media/Press "gotcha" that Rove will continuously aim at the Dems until November 7. It will seem mild in a few months.
Posted by T2 at May 30, 2006 11:52 AMOne thing about these little slime peddlers, they're always in perfect synch; like a bacterial colony. Its their one strength. They're protest-warriors and soldiers in the Lords army. Btw Peter, theres a rumour afloat that Reid recieved free cookies from the Girl Scouts of America last year; get right on it and report back to us.
Posted by jondee at May 30, 2006 01:55 PMIf Bush wants the guy, he’s gotta be bad. Here’s what the corporate media isn’t saying about him: In the Nixon administration, Paulson was John Ehrlichman’s assistant in 1972-73. He was one of the Plumbers. He’s being brought into the administration to fix the leaks. He’s an expert in the art of cover up. Hopefully, he’ll be there when Bush is impeached.
http://blog.radioleft.com/ blog/ _archives/ 2006/ 5/ 30/ 1994063.html
Even NPR glossed over Paulson's background. They actually called him an enviromentalist as if, even if it is true, he could change Bu$hco policies. The last time I checked, the tresuary department had little to do with enviromental protection.
Keep in mind I heard this puff piece on so called "liberal" NPR today!
