Great. Just go and see the movie and tell everyone about it.
Then after that we can debate what the fuck is going on and what to do about it.

American Democracy in Trouble
This is a speech given by Al Gore last October. He talks about the marketplace of ideas and the internet (he's apparently FOR net neutrality-see his last paragraph). It's a long one, but to think, the guy actually wrote it himself, I presume.
U.S. Wants Companies to Keep Web Usage Records
Initially the Justice Dept said it was about child pornography, then an IP exec. was told it was about terrorism (and we know that's a catchall phrase for anything that Bu$hCo doesn't agree with).
"It was clear that they would go beyond kiddie porn and terrorism and use it for general law enforcement," Mr. Rotenberg said.
Meanwhile, the first oppressive heat wave in the NE makes me wonder whether this Summer will go into the record books, giving Gore's movie a long run.

How about we put Donald Rumsfeld under the wheels of a military vehicle.

Posted by Joseph at June 2, 2006 05:37 AMThe change in Gore is possibly due to several factors. I think he has always been much as you see him now, but he has dropped the "politician" persona. He is not running for anything, so he is not acting like a politician. It makes him seem a bit more like a real human. He is an articulate, intelligent, well educated and witty man. The kind of person I would want to drink a beer with (rather than a chimp-faced poseur who is incompetent, even with his fake Tejas accent).
The only act left is the knocking on the front doors of people like us. Thanks Al and Kerry.
"Knock, knock."
"Who's there?"
"NSA. Is Judith home?"
"No. She lives next door. Whew!"
(This was a super funny joke to Russians during the 1960's. Just substitute KGB for NSA and Boris for Judith...and he for she. The Russkies thought it was High-larious. I think it's tragic.)

Tropical ice cores!
Do they come in daiquiri flavors?
Posted by snark at June 2, 2006 08:39 AMGore's movie was reviewed in our Toronto Star this morning and also an interview with him. To read his answers, showing a wonderful sense of humour and intelligence with a great command of the English language, and then to compare it to listening to Bush talk and stumble (and lie), it is almost enough to make a person weep. To think how much safer this world would be, how many soldiers and innocent people would still be living ... if this man had rightfully become your President.
Posted by jra at June 2, 2006 09:43 AMI liked the Slate.com review of the movie better. Seems like a more honest assessment.
Posted by Musmanno at June 2, 2006 09:47 AMhere's somewhat good news, until the court caves:
Federal judge allows lawsuit against NSA
The government filed a motion saying that no court can consider the issues because of a privilege against revealing state secrets, if doing so harms national security. The judge said she will hear the government's motion only after proceeding with a June 12 hearing on the plaintiffs' motion to summarily declare the spying illegal.
I think that there will soon be a deliberate event meant to be seen as "Act of God" by some, act of Gaia's immune system by others. 6 CE is year of census in Luke's gospel, and I suspect the guys getting worldwide analingal p.r. via Da Vinci Code consider May 24th 6 CE (when world was under Julian calendar)to be Nativity date. (I.e comet piece brouhaha ca. this May 25th is a 'nya nya" from behind a mirror).
Bilderberg in Ottawa 6/8-6/11 on makes me think top arrives early, or visits Denver or Pittsburgh ist. (Why not Buffalo? Has old money and nice servant class, needs income.)
Remember lords likely have earthquake producing
capacity {google: tesla earthquake, denver airport} and that much ice is available to dislodge in Greenland & West Antarctica, where we know 16' or20' worth even rests below ocean, undermined by salty warming waves each southern summer. Greenland's in northern summer, must be very tempting to those corrupted by power over centuries, and born aesthetic.
They also like dates. google "peter power" re 7/7/05.
Last big tsunami, one potato chip before the bag is emptied, was on western Christmas in the Pacific.
May 24th Julian calendar is June 6th civil (Gregorian) calendar, (as January 7th is old calendar Orthodox Christmas. We don't do what Popes say, Gregory or current swine).
One thing Da Vinci movie left out from book is
statement that Mitterrand insisted that I. M. Pei use exactly 1 less than 667 panes for his glass pyramid by the Louvre. Thing added and stressed is that fecund female lead is lone Heir (actually, I think the real guys are like non-catholic cockroaches) and she starts
testing for miracles. Because of that, romantic
assignation arranged at end of book is dropped,
unusual for Hollywood.
And except for "The Omen" remake publicity re its
opening day, first June Tuesday is not discussed much.
More if wanted.
Google: plushtown Dubai for part of argument in

No visible leaders are real, because none act in good faith. You know this. Google votescam, bohemian grove, denver airport, peter power, wtc 7, plushtown koala ...
Research FEMA's nature, and put food, water, meds etc aside for whatever catastrophes you think may occur. Buy food. You will not be sorry if you buy a lot of food; after oil prices rise so do prices of that season’s crops. Climate changes aren’t good for existing plantings either, yet no one visible addresses these worries. Prescriptions, hooch, generators, rifles are among the things that will gain value no matter what happens, given current conditions and decisions made.
If what I expect happens, (coasts knocked off, google Denver Airport) they’re invaluable, barterable, power conveying, and also liabilities. Use cash if possible for any large food buys to avoid seeing FEMA’s enforcement cut-off of the Executive Order against hoarding. Restaurant supply places may be available, don’t require membership. If there’s a state nearby with loose gun laws, you might get something. I must admit I’m tempted by the crossbows in sporting goods stores and e-bay myself. But buy food. If what I expect to happen June 6th does you’ll be very glad very soon if you do, and I don’t think there’s any circumstance (except moving) forseeable in the next 5 years where you’ll be sorry. Even burglars won’t take non-fancy food until after a catastrophe.(Eat & replace gradually at end of period.) Cases of vodka 1/2 gallons will never go bad, will always rise in value, and offer a suicide method if ever wanted,
I just saw the movie "An Inconvenient Truth."
I consider it the most important film of this generation, bar none, and am going to encourage—strongly encourage—everyone I know to see it, offering to pay for tickets and provide transportation if necessary.
For me, it was that good.
The information seems to have come from credible sources. It appears to have been presented fairly, communicated with a warm, personable passion and with personal integrity.
I connected strongly with the conclusions as well as with Al Gore himself. I came away from the theatre thinking to myself, "I am Al Gore;" not in identity, but in spirit and, ideally, in purpose."
If you have not seen this movie, I urge you now to make the time to see it at your earliest opportunity; it's that good and it's that important!
Now, more than ever, does jra's comment (above) resonate with me: "To think how much safer this world would be, how many soldiers and innocent people would still be living ... if this man had rightfully become your President."
The official website for An Inconvenient Truth may be visited by going to http://www.climatecrisis.net/.
Posted by Richard Harlos at June 2, 2006 04:53 PMI was listening to Al Franken today and they brought up how FAUX mis-leads its viewers. They played back a tape about the movies that came out last weekend, the FAUX reporter said, "X-Men the Last Stand dominated and The Da Vinci Code came in second, at the bottom of the list was Al Gore's movie An Inconvient Truth".
Of course they fail to mention that it in a limited release it was see by more people on average than the others.
Gotta love FAUX news!
