The same-sex marriage issue certainly doesn't help those GOP moderates.

WASHINGTON, June 6 — Though some Republican candidates may relish the Senate's current concentration on same-sex marriage and other ideologically charged topics, Senator Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island is not among them.
"It may stir up my primary voters a little bit against me," said Mr. Chafee, a centrist Republican up for re-election. He opposes the push for a constitutional amendment to prohibit same-sex marriage and is under intense pressure to back a proposed amendment that would forbid flag burning. "I'm collateral damage."

And while we are concentrating on same sex marriage, the Senate will vote this week on the repeal of the federal estate tax, the conservatives wet dream.

are replugs sex starved or peeping toms, why would they care ? im' not crazy about gay sex so i don't spend time thinking on it. given there constant defamation of the constitution/bill of rights seems like they need to spend some of that graft on better hookers.

Anybody see Cafferty's mea culpa yesterday?

CAFFERTY: What an idiot I am. I actually thought at the time Senator Specter was going to exercise his responsibility to provide some congressional oversight of the executive branch, you know, see if the White House is playing by the rules. Silly me.

In the end, Senator Specter has turned out to be yet another gutless Republican worm cowering in the face of pressure from the administration and fellow Republicans. There are not going to be any hearings. Americans won't find out if their privacy is being illegally invaded.

You know what the Senate Judiciary Committee settled for instead? Senator Orrin Hatch said he has won assurances from Vice President Dick Cheney that the White House will review proposed changes to the law that would restrict certain aspects of the NSA program.

Dick Cheney is going to decide if it's OK to spy on American citizens without a warrant. And this worthless bunch senators has agreed to let him do it. It's a disgrace.

It's a disgrace that the majority of the media and the American people seem to have already forgotten all about this government spying on their personal lives.

And can we please get a CA analysis of why a Republican won Cunningham's seat? I'm beyond baffled. Is it enough to say that Orange County is a Republican county?

Bush's actual approval rating? Three percent.

Another crucial loss for us, I see, in CA-50.

There will be lots of spin by our side about how the "spread" was tremendously reduced, blah, blah, blah. A loss is a loss is a loss. And it will be trumpeted by the state-run media to affect perceptions and dampen interest in the mid terms.

These CA clowns had the first bribed congressmen in over a hundred years, with tons of information about his party's actual corruption of the legislative process, and they elect an unqualified LOBBYIST of the same party to the seat to represent them. Sure wouldn't want to be part of a change in direction. More evidence of complete system failure, and party over country.

This just proves the tribal/team mentality is permanent in our politics, and cannot be altered short of economic calamity.

Or perhaps military disaster, but I don't honestly think most Rightists care about the troops in any meaningful way, such as being concerned that they have a viable, plausible "mission" to complete. As long as they have access to Subway and Pizza Hut, they're "supported". So a military catastrophe probably would not matter to the voters of CA-50. Capital & Crucifix all the way!

And Dems can forget about their Culture of Corruption theme---the state-run press won't even give Dems' side of the story, let alone agree with it.

CA-50 is 50% Republican in registration. Anyone who is still loyal to the GOP at this point is either not paying attention or is insensable to the direction that America is heading. This is a district that will go Republican if only the base mentioned above shows up. A margin of less than 5% in a district like this shows that many people are paying attention and there are about 50 districts currently held by the GOP with better demographics than this one. There's going to be a lot of targets for November.

About Inhofe

James Mountain Inhofe is the Senior U.S. Senator from Oklahoma. He’s the one that proudly announced yesterday that he’d never had a Homosexual or Divorce in the history of his family. He’s famous for such outrageous statements. After the Oklahoma City bombing, he stated that there probably weren’t very many casualties because federal employees wouldn’t be at their desks at 9:00 instead they would be off having coffee somewhere. After 911, he said, "One of the reasons I believe the spiritual door was opened for an attack against the United States of America is that the policy of our Government has been to ask the Israelis, and demand it with pressure, not to retaliate in a significant way against the terrorist strikes that have been launched against them." And on the Global Warming "hoax" he opines, "Global warming is still considered to be a theory and has not come close to being sufficiently proven." He’s anti-abortion, anti-Gay, and has focused his efforts on getting English to be our official language. Oh yeah, did I mention that he’s a Republican, a Christian Dominionist, and the recipient of a lot of money from the Petroleum lobby?

Why would anyone elect such a person to the U.S. Senate? No wonder Bush and Cheney are able to get away with doing whatever they want to do…
