If only we knew what was in the sealed indictment. Sealed v. Sealed. Maddening.
Posted by Via at June 14, 2006 03:19 AMFitzgerald is a Republican = Republicans stick together. Nuff said.
Posted by Christopher at June 14, 2006 04:23 AMDisappointed...yes. But it isn't over and I give Fitzgerald the benefit of the doubt. He isn't a white knight for the Left, but he isn't supposed to be. He is supposed to be locating the truth and I still think he will.
Posted by suds at June 14, 2006 04:33 AMFormer Gov Ryan = Republican. Fitzgerald slammed him.
Posted by ann at June 14, 2006 04:46 AMI say Cheney, Rove, Libby and anybody else who deliberately destroyed a vital spy network in order to smear the guy exposing thier lies about the need to go to war, are guilty of treason. Until the Democrats start playing hardball and talking like that, they will always lose.

So Rove's not going to be frog marched out of the white house any time soon. At least not for Plame. But c'mon. It's pretty clear that he cut a deal, don't you think? His lawyer says that Fitzgerald “does not anticipate seeking charges.” Yeah, unless he fails to live up to his agreement to testify. He went before the grand jury five times, and it wasn't because he had nothing to say. He saved his own neck at Libby's expense --- and maybe Cheney's.

So this morning on NBC's Today Show Bill O'Rielly was interviewed. WTF is this, the parade of right-wing wackos. Stay tuned, next week will be Rush the Lush. Of course, no Liberals are allowed.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 05:30 AMI have to believe Nemesis, in her wisdom, is saving Rove for a more ignominious fate.
Posted by c pooter at June 14, 2006 05:36 AMI think Fitz just couldn't prove what he needed to prove. It's over.
Posted by CG at June 14, 2006 05:47 AMRepublicans swear=in Bilbray before results are counted or winner is certified.
Posted by Sharon at June 14, 2006 05:50 AMFrom the beginning, Rove, through Scott McClellan, denied that he did any of that. There weren't even any clever circumlocutions. He just lied. From admissions from Rove, filings in the Libby case, and uncontradicted reportage, we know as clearly as we ever can that Rove did do each of those things.
So he did do what he was suspected of and he did lie about it.
Now, I'm happy to take Patrick Fitzgerald's word for it, his evaluation of the evidence, that there's not enough evidence to indict Rove on any criminal charge. As Rove's defenders have long made clear, the underlying statute dealing with revealing the identities of covert operatives is very hard to bring a charge with. Same goes for making false statements or perjury. Hard to prove and you need lots of evidence as to intent and so forth.

Posted by Joseph at June 14, 2006 05:57 AMWord has it that Lieberman allies are planning an independent bid to return him to the Senate, and I am equally as sure that Joe Lieberman will run as an Independent, because his chances of beating Lamont are getting slim. That's Joe. What happened to the belief of working FOR the Party and doing what's BEST for the Party?
Former Connecticut Democratic chairman John F. Droney, is quoted as a supporter of the plan. "I think to be terrorized through the summer by an extremely small group of the Democratic Party, much less the voting population, is total insanity for a person who is a three-term senator." "Terrorized?" Nice choice of words John.
great news, everybody!
Victims lose Saudi torture case
The Saudi government, supported by the British government, argued agents were protected by the State Immunity Act 1978 from proceedings in Britain.
good boy, tony!
Posted by dubya at June 14, 2006 06:04 AMJoseph, 6,000 copies? Seems no one cares about Mary Cheney. I wonder what Coulter is thinking about her book right now. Will the "never too rich, too thin and too vicious" Coulter have a comment? Stay tuned.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 06:08 AMThe New York Times has an article about Rove's not being indicted (this is from Rove's lawyer, and it does seem that Fitzgerald should weigh in on this)....and of course does not address the issue of Rove's security clearance.
I would assume that the rest of the MSM will follow suit and ignore this question.
Press Conference on right now. All Hail the Chief.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 06:47 AMI'm in my morning reading of the Big Orange - wondering who the the two boobs Kos kicked off for sockpuppeting without permission are.
Posted by idiosynchronic at June 14, 2006 06:50 AM"Root out the corruption at all levels to regain the confidence of the people." Those words are for the Iraqis. SHOVE IT BUSH!
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 06:53 AMHas anyone noticed that when Bush refers to freedoms in this Country, it usually is in a mocking manner? I guess it truly would be easier for him if this was a dictatorship.
"I'm a high valued target" quoting Bush about his trip to Iraq during his sneak-in-the-night appearance. You bet you are honey.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 07:30 AMSo, as Bush talks about bringing Democracy to Iraq (of course he is a lying SOB), we are now beginning to find out the dirty tricks of keeping people inline in this Country as we slide into fascism. The GOP makes J. Edgar Hoover proud. The following is from Moveon:
As part of our big plan to win the election we've been running TV ads in key districts around the country. Yesterday I got news that a TV station in Virginia has refused us the right to air our newest ad that focuses on Iraq. They won't even return our phone calls.
It smelled fishy so we looked into it. Sure enough, the Republican Party has been threatening to sue TV stations that run our ads. That's not all. Two of the senior executives at the station—including one of the guys who makes the decision about running ads—actually donated to the Republican's campaign!
FACT: Rove was running around DC leaking the identity of Valerie Plame to anyone willing to listen in order to discredit Ambassador Joe Wilson. Then, when he was asked if he revealed her status as an undercover CIA agent, he lied and said he'd never heard of her.
FACT: Fitzgerald allowed Turdblossom to return to the Grand Jury FIVE times to change, doctor and cleanup his testimony -- AFTER, I Lewis "Scooter" Libby testified before the same Grand Jury. In other words, Fitzgerald gave Rove (and Bush) a 'pass.'
This is unprecedented. Too bad Mr. Fitzgerald doesn't see revealing the status of an undercover CIA agent as serious and a potential threat to National security.
Posted by Christopher at June 14, 2006 08:12 AMIt ain't over till the fat lady sings. She may be putting on her breast plate but the music hasn't started yet.

"Too bad Mr. Fitzgerald doesn't see revealing the status of an undercover CIA agent as serious and a potential threat to National security."
Christopher, if someone, if not all of them, are not brought to justice and imprisoned, (or shot for treason which I prefer), then Pandora's Box has been opened. Want to threaten someone? Tell them you will reveal their identify. Blackmail is BIG BUSINESS in Washington these days it seems.
Judith,
Agreed.
Remember when Bushco drawled,"if someone in mah minstrayshun' leaked then, ah wanna know and they will be fahr'd?"
Well, OK then asshole. Rove leaked. Fact. Fire his fat ass. But he won't. Sadly, he won't.
The Republic died the day Bush won his lawsuit back in 2000.
