Last year, the Senate voted 92-6 to deny the raise but quietly surrendered the position in House-Senate talks.
I loved this part! Such a struggle!
Posted by Seven of Six at June 14, 2006 07:59 PMMissouri will have installed Diebold for the 2006 elections. I will go to my polling place and vote, but I have to tell you that vote will be cast with no confidence. That makes me very sad.
I have posted this before, but the whole Florida debacle was a set-up to interject Diebold into our system of voting, and we bought it. Interesting isn't it how Diebold was right there to take over when the verifiable paper ballot was thrown out.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 08:21 PMFunny, I started to write a comment about these bastards giving themselves a raise, and then decided why bother.

Damn, Judith I thought the same exact thing.
Some things will never change!
Sec. of State, R-Jan Brewer here in AZ bought the Diebold machines for the state elections.
Was your Sec. of State a repuke also?
Accurate info as always pessimist (that's sarcasm)
"... and Chief Justice William Rehnquist receive $212,100."
in case you hadn't heard - he's not the Chief Justice anymore :-)
although I agree Congres doesn't deserve the payraise...
Corrections made. The error was in the original article and I didn't catch it. As I'm not on the GOP payroll, even a pessimist gets tired after a hard day's labor. - p
Posted by OutsideTheEchoChamber at June 14, 2006 09:05 PMThe 50th (or was it the 51st) Maine needs to take Little Round Top again and kick the sh*t out of the knee-jerk neanderthals. Time for the administering of a little frontier justice to these dogfight watching, flag humping, Rapture invoking nit-wits and their free-markets-are-like-Divine Providence friends. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
Posted by jondee at June 14, 2006 09:12 PMSeven of Six, no. Robin Carnahan, Governor Mel Carnahan's (another casualty of small aircraft) daughter holds that title, and she is a Democrat.
So, I am not sure what the story is on why we are getting Diebold. Along with Diebold, our asshole Governor Matt Blunt is now considering the following (yes, he is Roy Blunt's son and will be a one term Governor):
The Columbia Missourian reports: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan told protestors gathered at the Capitol on Wednesday that a proposed bill requiring voters to present a federal or state voting identification card could keep citizens out of the polls.
“It’s a bill that I think could risk disenfranchising up to 200,000 Missourians,” Carnahan said in the Capitol’s rotunda.
These 200,000 people affected could include senior citizens, the disabled and some students, Carnahan said.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Delbert Scott, said otherwise. “That’s absurd,” he said.
Between Diebold and State voting identification cards, I would say we are screwed.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 09:44 PMI know this is off topic, but I tried to find Ann Coulter's childhood background, but came up with nothing. My take was that any women that spiteful, angry and hateful had to have had a terrible childhood. Then bingo, I ran across this. Maybe the rumors are true. If that isn't Coulter in the pictures, then it is a good impersonator. Considering Ann doesn't mind destroying people, perhaps we should post these pictures of him/her everywhere.

Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 10:06 PMSorry, I think this site is a joke. Not sure.
Posted by Judith at June 14, 2006 10:14 PMAnn's mother was a truckstop hooker on rollerskates. Bastardette Ann was thrown from a moving 18 wheeler by her "dad" shortly after birth. Rolling down a steep hill, her supple little body was stretched long and thin. A kind family of rabid wolverines raised and homeschooled her. In no time, she found she could bite off the head of a golpher, and swallow it whole. Communicating with the wolverines strained her vocal chords, causing her grotesque signature adam's apple.
Ann learned English from a trucker while following in her mother's ass-prints.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 15, 2006 02:16 AMtiki-al son, you so funny! I heard Anne is an alcoholic. Anybody catch the bitch on Tonight show Wednesday? Leno is a dog for having her on, but then he's a dog anyway.

Curiouser and curiouser. I wonder if what really happened with that Grand Jury will ever come out.
Posted by at June 15, 2006 05:35 AMThat was me.
Posted by CG at June 15, 2006 05:36 AMMal: Oooh, me so funny. Me bullshit you long time.
Yes I saw George Carlin on his best behavior on the Tonight Show ignoring the evil Ann. Leno would have on dead Zarqawi if it would beat out Letterman. I noticed they loaded the audience with right wingers by the over the top cheering for Ann. My underactive gag-reflex served me well once again.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 15, 2006 08:49 AMThe only cheering I will ever do for Mann Coulter is when they place the noose around its adams-appled neck.
Posted by God Of War at June 15, 2006 08:52 AMGOW: I'll place the noose, you spring the trap door. The cheers would be deafening.
Posted by TIKI AL at June 15, 2006 12:21 PMpessimist: for a person who's on the side of the angels WHY THE GODDAMN HELL DO YOU HAVE TO DO SHIT LIKE THIS: One begins to wonder if 'Congress' isn't the feminine form of a masculine word for legislature.
Who was the original Enron whistleblower? Female. Some of the most fearless callers of bullshit on the Administration are ... what? ... _female_. Who has to put up with dying of dehydration in Iraq to avoid rape BY OUR OWN SIDE? Females. Who just soldiers on? Females.
You want real lily-livered poltroonery, don't look for it among females. Quit slandering women for the craven behavior of men.
/*gets hold of self*/
Look, I'm sorry to be yelling like this. But I'm not reading Little Green Footheads. I don't expect to have my teeth kicked in by the folks who we're all supposed to be in this together with. Could you pick your catchy phrases to actually reflect reality? Women _and_ men can be brave or useless. It just ain't right to lay it on one gender.
On a totally different topic: all the best for the coming weeks. I've been there, and I know just how hard it is. All of you being there for each other is the best thing to do. But it is hard. All the best.
