Comments: Plame Files Civil Suit Against Cheney, Libby, And Rove

Just put it up on my blog too, Steve.

This is so great. A truly GIGANTIC story!

Fatty & Co. should be tied up in court for years and years now. HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Posted by Christopher at July 13, 2006 01:07 PM

Ha-Ha, this oughtta be good!

The nutwings heads are literally going to explode with fury. They're poppin' right now!

They will be blind with rage, but it should be fun reading their attempts to argue why Jones v. Clinton doesn't apply to the the sitting VP as well.

Which it most clearly must.

Posted by euzoius at July 13, 2006 01:26 PM

Couldn't happen to a nicer threesome.

I notice Bush and Novak are absent from the suit. I hope they catch some grief during the proceedings.

The Bush Administration lied to our nation in 2002 to justify a war we didn't need, smeared Joe Wilson in 2003 to deflect the fact that Bush's war was a fraud and there's been very little accountability in the last four years. Only in the last year have Americans finallly caught on.

The last five years have not been our shining hour.

Craig:

I think the suit mentioned 10 "John Does" and, so, perhaps GWB is among them.

Posted by Danton at July 13, 2006 01:52 PM

Steve and the rest- haven't we been down this road before with Fitz? The GOPer lawyers will start delay tactics immediately to delay this as long as possible.

Posted by T2 at July 13, 2006 02:15 PM

Woo!

Bring on the discoveries, bitches!

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 13, 2006 02:36 PM

T2,
They may try to delay but it really won't work as this type of issue has already been settled by the Supreme Court. They can delay a little but not much. This should be in court within a year to a year and a half. Ooh, right in the middle of the 2008 presidential elections!

Posted by Ga6thDem at July 13, 2006 02:39 PM

Seems like Joe has some inside knowledge too. I can't wait to see those deposition videos.

Posted by Flamethrower at July 13, 2006 02:59 PM

Thought I would take a break from studying for the bar to...well, um, discuss the law.

And the best part: thanks to Paula Jones, it's Shooter who is now in the crosshairs.

The Paula Jones suit didn't really address this issue. What was settled there was the proposition that a sitting president is immune (but only while sitting) from suits arising out of pre-presidential conduct.

The outing of Plame is clearly not pre-vice presidential conduct on Shooter's part. So the Jones lawsuit won't have much meaning. I think it may raise some interesting constitutional issues about the relative constitutional weight of the vice presidency: if the Wilsons were suing Bush, they would be SOL; it's not as clear that a VP is similarly immune from suit in his individual capacity.

Fatty Cheney may have $100 million in the bank, but neither Libby or Rove have that kind of cash to pay legal fees.

"Bush's brain" may look back on all of this and wish he'd gone to work for Dillards and worked in womens shoes.

Posted by Christopher at July 13, 2006 03:06 PM

Yes, dj is right on this point; my comment is wrong.

That's a shame; Cheney will have an argument.

Posted by euzoius at July 13, 2006 03:26 PM

Any bets on how long the Bush regime will take before trying to get the lawsuit dismisses on the grounds of it revealing 'state secrets'?

Posted by jwrjr at July 13, 2006 03:44 PM

That's a shame; Cheney will have an argument.

Well, yeah, but not that good. Nixon got immunity when he was sued for a retaliatory firing back in the 70s (can't remember the other party name...), but the decision focused on the constitutional significance of the presidency, and particularly the CinC functions.

Unlike the President, though, the VP has very, very little to do—at least as far as the Constitution is concerned. He waits for the President to die, and he acts as President of the Senate. Is that enough to render him immune from suit? I dunno. Cheney pushed the notion that the VP's privileges were coextensive with that of the White House in the course of the Sierra Club/Judicial Watch suits, but there was never a real ruling, since there were other ways to dispose of the case.

I do not think that we can call this event Fitzmas (forthcoming), so I ask you folks: what is the new Lefty term for this lawsuit?

Posted by Bagley at July 13, 2006 04:02 PM

what is the new Lefty term for this lawsuit

Who cares?

I'm guessing you want a label on it so all you and your RW welfare, check collecting troll's can coordinate your efforts to turn it into a pejorative.

Hey I have an idea. How about: "Plame civil suit?"

Isn't it past punch out time for ya?

Posted by simp at July 13, 2006 04:37 PM

"Plame civil suit?"

Nah, it does not have the same mellifluous...goodiness... of "Fitzmas," simp.

Posted by Bagley at July 13, 2006 04:43 PM

Gotta go folks. Tomorrow is a working day and, as a member of the (income) taxpaying public -- an ever decreasing percentage of the population -- tomorrow I get to keep my earnings! Hooray!!! (Up until the 13th of July, I have been working to simply pay my taxes.....wonderful :(

Posted by Bagley at July 13, 2006 05:48 PM

Fitzmas in july Baghead. LOL

Merry Fitzmas All!

Posted by herbal tee at July 13, 2006 06:46 PM

Fitzmas came from those morons that blogged about the investigation 24/7 - always like they know it all and virtually always wrong.

In fact, the endless speculation earned one set of bozos a koulfax and now they are part of the circle of links that c&l, atrios, digby and kos always use to create "holiday inn express" expertise.

Gosh, anon, you sound so bitter. Lighten up!

Posted by iamcoyote at July 13, 2006 07:44 PM

It's a pretty brave thing to do, this suit. It's going to be a 24/7 job - not exactly retirement fun. I hope their lawyers are up to the highjynx that are going to fire up immediately...

Posted by Mickey at July 13, 2006 08:31 PM

Damn I hope it all comes out. I hope they bury everyone in the wrong. Unlike the cool-aiders I will accept whatever conclusion is reached.
Go get 'em Val. If she busts those three she will also bust all the right wing radio folks too. Then we will see who dominates the news!

Well, Novak was ad on the Daily Show tonight. It was superb.
I have heard or read that the Wilson’s had to act soon because of time limit.
Therefore the 1 to 10 "John Does" could be the chimp. Trial takes time and I do not expect it to go on in the next 3 years. That would be after his leaving office or impeach. He might not be able to pardon Libby.
Fizt got his job by Bush. I learned it today. Is he really a great prosecutor or a better ghost Republicans that, if he knew from the beginning who leaked by Novak account, delay the all story from coming out to re- elected the chimp?

I saw on “Democracy Now” that the Mexican election was stolen. Greg Palast, went there! It was. Let’s see what our corporate news Media will tell us about it.

Not bitter, iamcoyote, just sharing that some of the loudest voices in the blogosphere don't have a clue what they talk about - both left and right. There are blogs that don't endlessly promote themselves with endless speculation that constantly changes and promotes themselves. Overall, this site is one of them.

The fact that a small group of bloggers constantly promotes the same set of marginally competent/qualified "experts" is a problem and it hijacks the traditions of liberals and progressives.

That is an important dialog.

Posted by at July 13, 2006 10:03 PM

Is he really a great prosecutor

He was promoted by one by a limited group of bloggers that offered no real insight or expertise - they just endlessly linked back and forth and flamed anyone that didn't disagree.

I am still willing (and waiting) to see what fitz can do - but clearly the whole fitzmas crap was just sham that a few bloggers created via their circle of links.

Tradmed has the motive for destroying Ms Plame all wrong. Actually, Cheney tried to molest her in a motel room under the guise of delivering a pizza, and was karate kicked in the sternum causing one of his heart attacks. (Val is far too classy to kick Dick in the balls.)

Valerie was undercover, and could not report the incident to the police. This will all come out at the civil trial.

Looks like anon is one of those "banned from FDL and Kos, now I hate 'em, hate 'em hate 'em!" guys. Get a life, li'l guy.
