I predict 10 years or sooner than that. It'll be like watching a slow trainwreck happening, and then people will maybe wake up one day, and ask "What happened, how did we get here?". Maybe. Silly silly people. They did this to themselves.
The ones that have figured this out cannot and should not be expected to go down with the ship. That's why we're looking at ex-patriating.
Even Russia's taking shots at the US mess of democracy in Iraq now.
Btw, take a look at Barbara Ehrenreich's site for her new book "Bait and Switch: The (Futile) Pursuit of the American Dream" at http://barbaraehrenreich.com/
Looks interesting.
One last observation.
The Republicans drove this country into the ditch once before and caused the Great Depression.
And here we are again.
As the saying goes, "same wine, different bottle". Same policies, different packaging.
People never learn.
That's why patriotism is overrated, and it is not deserved by the country of its citizens.
Posted by Alex at July 16, 2006 07:18 PMWell, looks like Bookseller's dad has taught him the value of good research and the reward of great analysis. Couldn't ya maybe have steered Bookseller toward something like the value of chocolate in the fight against insomnia for his first (is it his first?) post to this site? Before I forget, NYT has a new article out on the Bushies cutting Medicare payments 20-30% for complex treatments and new technologies.

Is that why James Dobson is such a flaming liberal?

Yeah, the kid thinks and I don't have to agree with the kid's analysis. Better the neo-con indoctrination. Sex with dad and learning to slap mom around...that, and lots of alcohol abuse and bitching about taxes.
Posted by phidipides at July 17, 2006 08:29 AMWhile this is very depressing, remember that the cycle repeats, so, there is still hope for a better future.
But given the time scale, it is a future that I probably won't live long enough to see, but I have a good chance of seeing at least the beinning spark of the second "Spiritual Faith" phase...
