Comments: The Photo Op Foreign Policy

Seriously, what was with the shades? They must be another expensive accessory, like the Manolos she bought during Katrina.

Posted by ann at July 24, 2006 09:30 AM

Well, at least Beirut (probably) won't be bombed today--bad PR. But be thankful for small favors...

And a really bad photo op would occur if Condo were to have some building debris or bits of human flesh land on her as she enters/exits the limo.....

Posted by euzoius at July 24, 2006 09:32 AM

Here's a stupid question, but one I'd love to know the answer to.

Where did Condi fly into? Did she fly off a US ship, via helicopter? Or did she fly into a secret airport that the Israelis haven't decimated yet? Will she fly from Lebanon directly to Israel (against Israeli law)?

Posted by emptywheel at July 24, 2006 09:33 AM

Her $500 Prada bag at her feet, oh, and those feet -- naturally they are adorned with a $1,000 pair of Ferragamo shoes. A simple Chanel suit and a double process for the hair round out the look.

All that's left is a round of tennis with Pork Hooten and Missy Rice can return home and tell friends her excellent Middle East adventure went smashingly!

Foreign policy? What dat?

Posted by Christopher at July 24, 2006 09:37 AM

emptywheel - I bet she's got Marine and Navy helicopters ferrying her from one place to another. I even doubt that she and her staff will even sleep on land, but fly back to whatever Navy support ship she flew in from.

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 24, 2006 09:37 AM

did she bring them a turkey?

Posted by T2 at July 24, 2006 09:56 AM

My God. How can an ugly woman work so hard to look good and miss by so far? Is the neo-con makeup consultant Katherine Harris?

The Condi Bushco Approved Script:

Lebanese Civilian Deaths = Killing Terrorists

Israeli Civilian Deaths = Killed by Terrorists

Katyusha Rockets = Terrorist Tools

Israeli American Supplied GBU's = Anti-Terrorist Tools

Damn, that's quick! She can get back to pulling her a noncom train on the boat.

Posted by phidipides at July 24, 2006 09:59 AM

...And the MSM has been eating it up. I was in a waiting room for about two hours this morning and they had CNN on the TV. Two hour of Condi the world traveler intersperced with 'Tiger wins the Brit.'

Coverage of Iraq? None.

Are the 140,000 troops tat we have there suddenly out of harm's way? If they are, it's news to me.

Posted by herbal tee at July 24, 2006 10:00 AM

So she's in Beirut, where's John Kerry or Jimmy Carter or even the Rev. Jesse Jackson. They're home in the a/c keeping cool. And y'all call this a photo op. When has there ever been a camera that Jesse didn't hog? He's nowhere in sight. Jimmy's no where to be heard. Where are all those couragous Democrats? Well Joe L. speaks up, but y'all don't want him to speak for you.

Wonder what a McCain-Lieberman ticket would do in 2008?

Posted by peter at July 24, 2006 10:03 AM

Wow peter!

Even by your standards that was pretty weak.

I heard she flew into Cyprus, then took a helicoptor to Beirut. Not sure how she's getting to Israel.

Is she going to DO anything? And with all this talk about how we've lost credibility, too biased toward Israel, etc, is there anyone else (EU, UN?) sending someone who could help negotiate a solution? I mean, she won't even talk to Syria or Hezbollah. How is she going to get anything done and why isn't some country with more credibility sending someone?

Who? We support Israel to the tune of $100 billion a year. We ARE their economy. Any one else wants to play they have to ante-up.

Posted by phidipides at July 24, 2006 10:25 AM

As much as I can't stand Conartista, I don't fault her for wearing her Kevlar sunglasses just in case a hungover Israeli pilot missed the "no bombing Condi" meeting.

herbal: The corporate media can't possibly cover Lebanon and Iraq at the same time. But if Bubba robbs a drycleaners in Houston and runs from the police in his Chevy pickup, CNN has a camera on it until the copter runs out of fuel.

Posted by TIKI AL at July 24, 2006 10:26 AM

EW, From the article it looks like she flew in via helicopter with reporters to Beruit from Cypress and then is returning back to Cypress and then will go onto Israel.

As for the impression she made...I don't think this photo op was really intended for the Lebanese and Arab audiences...it was more for the Amurkan media (and they are eating it up) and Amurkan publi ...I don't think anyone but the Amurkan media and therefore the sheeple that aren't paying attention in this country will be fooled by the empty gesture.

The only bright side is as euzoius makes, it stopped the Israeli's from bombing Beruit while she's there.

If the votes were actually counted, they'd get CREAMED.

Posted by Right Fools at July 24, 2006 10:34 AM

She's a fucking demented douchebag.

Posted by red_neck_repub at July 24, 2006 10:39 AM

How many times have these nits made "surprise" visits? Do they ever "plan" a visit to the ME? Seems like the only way they can get the MSM to cover anything they do over there is to dash in - in "secret" (for security reasons of course) - and then dash right back out. Mission Fricking Accomplished!!

TIKI, Don't forget the missing blonde girls!

TIKI, Don't forget the missing blonde girls!

Missing blonde girls!

Where?

Where?

Posted by snark at July 24, 2006 11:18 AM

Isn't Mrs. Snark going to kick your ass for that one?

Posted by idiosynchronic at July 24, 2006 11:31 AM

We support Israel to the tune of $100 billion a year. We ARE their economy.

When Hu and Putin pull the plug on the US economy, at least they will take Jerusalem down with it. The Arab states will then benefit from Saudi largess, and will be able to again look down their noses at those who oppressed them for so long. Uncle Sugar won't be there to back up the Israelis, and the fight will be more of a fair event - for once.

Not so long as the spatula treatment is not involved.

Besides, she knows blondes aren't my type.

Posted by snark at July 24, 2006 11:42 AM

7: Missing blonde girls or the 2-faced kitten which I understand went missing. It will probably show up as a guest squeaker at the GOP convention.

Spatula treatment? Is this something naughty?

Posted by TIKI AL at July 24, 2006 12:06 PM

If snark said it, it's naughty!

The only surprise about this photo op is that bushco suddenly realized they were expected to do something. For some reason, the people want their leaders to lead rather than go shoe shopping.

Posted by iamcoyote at July 24, 2006 12:15 PM

Didn't any of you ever see 'Stripes'?

Posted by snark at July 24, 2006 12:37 PM

cg and emal

Oh, thanks, should click through, shouldn't I. The reason I raise it, of course, is that normally she would have flown directly into Beirut, huh? I mean, one can even still fly into Baghdad. But not Beirut, because our friends have removed that little convenience from the map of Beirut.

Posted by emptywheel at July 24, 2006 12:57 PM

Bill Murray's inspection of the kitchen drawer was the first thing that came to mind.

Does she spat? nudge,nudge,wink,wink.

Posted by TIKI AL at July 24, 2006 12:58 PM

I assummed she had flown in by broomstick.

Posted by T2 at July 24, 2006 01:21 PM

Good one, T2.

It is strange that no one seems to have commented on the appearing/disappearing Israeli-US joint defense effort directed at developing an anti-missile laser. The US military has spent a bundle on this little boondoggle and it's always one the neocons refer to when any liberal wants to point out the failures in the overall anti-missile porkbarrel. Funny, how the Israelis have nothing deployed against those dreaded katyusha rockets fired by Hisbollah two years after the anti-missile laser was supposed to be such a success.

Uh uh uh! You'll be labeled an anti-semite for these negative statements.

Anyone hear the offer Condi made to the Lebanese? Written by the Israelis! Couldn't she have phoned it in and saved the taxpayers a bunch of money?

Does she spat? nudge,nudge,wink,wink.

Don't force me to stop this bus!

Posted by phidipides at July 24, 2006 05:12 PM

"What we're seeing here ... are the birth pangs of a new Middle East and whatever we do, we have to be certain that we are pushing forward to the new Middle East, not going back to the old one." (Condi)

OK, is this why Israel's attack on Lebanon is called Operation Midwife?
