I watched Bill Clinton's speech for Lieberman last night. For Lieberman or not, Clinton made me cry.
He made me cry for the stark contrast of what was to what is now.
He was marvelous. Warm, intelligent, friendly...but above all, above anything else, he always speaks filled with HOPE.
Contrast that with Bu$hCo's gloom and doom fucking scenarios about everything.
Thing is - Bu$hCo wants us to be hopeless. Hopeless people are more willing to give up shit. Like freedom and self interest.
It was amazing to contrast Bill Clinton to dubya.
Posted by Anjha at July 26, 2006 04:38 PMClinton is a powerful speaker, I did not see the speach but he is believable and a damn fine politicion. I don't understand why folks are pessimistic. I don't pay alot of attention to polls or news stories because if you look hard enough you can find a poll that says everyone is tickled. So I guess as long as I am happy then I guess alls well. That is probably a selfish take but I really am not a selfish person. I hate that folks are feeling down about the greatest country in the history of the universe. I actually believe if the parties would quit blaming each other and really try to work things out they could each make concessions and come up with a workable deal. Neither seems to be willing.
ok enough of my rambling

I'll tell you what's sucking out my optimism. I found this blog and was appalled by both the opinions contained therein, and the smug attitude with which the blogger endorsed them. I have commented a few times, but am growing frustrated with my attempts at debate. I encourage others who feel similarly to make their voices heard.

Posted by brick at July 26, 2006 05:16 PMAs I've posted before, I feel very sad that I am leaving my children a country that is worse off (bigger debt, more poverty, lousy world opinion, unsafe, no constitutional guarantees) than the country my parents left me. When I look at "what could have been" had just one Supreme Court justice voted to recount the Florida vote, I am sorely disappointed. We need to vote these criminal thugs out of office.
Posted by Cookie Monster at July 26, 2006 05:44 PMPessimism has reigned over me since the day fucker stole the 2000 election. I hear folks in their eighties grieve: "I'm glad I'll soon be out of it. I feel sorry for the young people." We never heard that kind of shit before, even ten years ago.
Where there's life there is hope. Remember that!
Posted by Mal Feasance at July 26, 2006 06:05 PMThe problem Mal, is that Bush is anti-life: more death by war, more death and suffering by restricting stem cell research, more death by poverty.
Posted by Cookie Monster at July 26, 2006 06:13 PMbrick, lemme guess; you're last name's "McNoneck."
Ya blogwhore. And an inept one at that.
Steve, how can one be optimistic when all you have to look forward to is yet another war? There's no way to sell optimism now when the product is death and destruction. It was much easier when you had Shakkanaw, and pretty explosions. Even if you get a gekko as a spokespecies, you couldn't sell it today.
So, if the 'pukes can't sell optimism, they're gonna try to sell the hope of an optimistic future. It's new! It's improved! It could happen. And so it goes.
Hey--what'll the "national mood" index look like after the Republicans retain control of the Congress this fall?
Crucial moments in a nation's history:
--an unprovoked, misrepresented and illegal invasion of another country turns out disastrously, resulting in widespread death, instability, civil war and ruinous continuing expense;
--additional countries are threatened with attack, including plans for nuclear attack;
--a solvent treasury is intentionally looted and bankrupted by a financially corrupt majority party which passes legislation that solely benefits its wealthy campaign contributors;
--overwhelming scientific consensus concerning an irreversible environmental catastophe is utterly ignored;
--the president violates federal statutes and engages in illegal surveillence of citizens, while packing the Supreme Court to within one vote of a majority with partisan right wing extremists who will back their political party in all contested litigation;
--poverty and violent crime steadily increase;
--the press is threatened with criminal prosecution by the Attorney General for publishing accurate stories of presidential wrongdoing;
---After prior high levels of approval, the nation and its people become utterly hated and despised throughout the world.
The people of said nation are presented with an election which can either allow the political party that delivered the above policies to remain in complete control of the government, or throw that party out of power and deliver a message that the president must be controlled.
What would a nation healthy in spirit do? And what will another Republican victory mean in such circumstances?
Once a people have become too enfeebled and intellectually poisoned to reform their corrupt practices, pessimism about national decline is all a rational observer is left with.
It's a very bad sign that Bill Clinton has thrown in his lot with the Dems dry-rot "Leibermanism" of the past six years, instead of the vital grassroots activists, very bad indeed.
I don't know about the rest of you, but brick's post scared the bejesus out of me. I'm too scared to even peek at his link...probably just gay midget porn anyway.

[Editor: ignore=off]At least the left knows how to capitalize on other peoples' misery. Gripe them into a funk and the snake oil sells that much faster.
The right creates people's misery and because we Progressive's want positive change, we supposedly capitalize on it?
The only oil that is selling is not snake oil but do you have a recipe?
bendejo, you are one sick twisted entity!
i agree with cookie!! bush hates life. that idiot only wants to protect unborn babies. what an idiot. how could anyone be for that. stupid assed unborns! how could someone be for killing terrorists, or even be so callused that they are for killing criminals and then he wants those unborn fetuses to live what a friggen moron. how could anyone have that stance??? that is crazy!!
I sure wish I could hear someone else cry and piss and moan about a stolen election, mis counted votes and illegal war diebold and all that same ole shit
damn people get over it
u lost
twice in the pres election and 6 times in the house/senate
why not look at the problem
the problem is we as Democrats have no stance
all we seem to be for is baby killing
a womans right not to be on birth control
oh yeah and we are definately for not protecting women or impoverished in any other country
if we would have a clue and get a message then maybe just maybe we would mix in a win in an election.
Don't fret though
we can still piss and moan and cry like the soft femenine party we have become because we havent a prayer (which the grass roots, that are desendants of apes are against) of winning in the next election because we have chosen Al gore and dean and kerry to be our leaders
damn

Pessimistic AND unhinged it would seem.

Bush & Israel/Hezbollah
Do you approve or disapprove of the job that George W. Bush is doing in the military conflict between Israel and the Lebanese group Hezbollah?

IMO, he still hasn't grasped the severity of what's happening...like Katrina all over....Condi looks defeated....knives are out and she's holding zero trump cards....unfathomable how hopeless the administration has become although Darth and Rummy are conspicuous by their absence...nobody is talking restraint...this looks pretty ugly!!
Posted by Goyo at July 26, 2006 09:18 PMI am very optimistic. I am optimistic that folks like bendito will look quite decorative when strung up by piano wire like Mussolini in the town square. They sway ever so slightly in the breeze.
Gripe them into a funk and the snake oil sells that much faster.
Terra Alert!! Alert level kinda greenish! Them Ay-rabs want to fuck our white women! Jesus is coming! Jesus is coming! Terra Alert!! Them gays want to suck cock on the White House steps! Terra Alert!! We're all making more money except no one got a raise! Terra Alert!! Ay-rabs everywhere!! North Korea!!! Iran!!! Terra Alert!! Cut Medicare, veterans, pregnant women, education...Terra Alert!! Them fucking Persians want your white women!!! Israel kicks the shit out of Ay-rabs by killing christians!! Terra Alert!!!
There are terrorists amongst us. The terrorists are the neo-cons. Round them up and put them in detention centers. We'll have trials later...where they can't see the evidence against them.
Posted by phidipides at July 27, 2006 07:48 AMI find a major turning point in optimism in the US was when Nixon (a conservative?) took us off the gold standard. The Fed’s massive devaluation of the dollar by constantly increasing the money supply (through easy credit and massive debt) goes unnoticed by the media as a cause for the rot. More dollars chasing goods raises prices.
Posted by John at July 27, 2006 11:09 AMJohn has a very good point. Anyone who has any debt is a fucking idiot. Why would anyone choose to pay for the ability to make a purchase? Didn't their folks tell them to pay with cash and save their hard earned money? I see that folks are touting the poll numbers, the polls said Kerry would win, and prolly gore, but the facts disproved the polls. I will assert this fact, if either election was held today bush would win. Hey folks he sucks as a conservative too. How much softer could he be on immigration? the ports deal? The soft stance in Iraq? Not wiping out the Koreans? Not kicking Irans ass? the only thing he has got right lately was the Isreal deal, he is right on that, let them fight the terrorists, i'm for that. No americans die, good. Some UN folks die, they all should.
