Can you even imagine if Madge Albright pulled a stunt like this on a tour of foreign nations to try and defuse a war?
Everyone from Fat Limburger to Sean Hannity to Annthrax Coulter would gone ape-shit.
Posted by Christopher at July 27, 2006 03:56 PMMy God, this administration is a freaking circus! From V/P's who shoot people in the face to Sec. of State's who play recitals like 10 year old girls!!
The real news has become better than the Onion!

[Editor: ignore=off]Playing her scales while Lebanon burns, another perfect image for the Nero Jr era.
Her "talent" makes it tough on Condo's relationship with "her husband", because she sure as hell can't play melancholic Brahms for Nero---he'd have to sit still and listen to something for 25 minutes or so, which simply ain't possible for our little ADD Emperor.
Yet she's a great sport with all his weight liftin' and road bikin'. Just don't seem fair.
I remember when Nero was insanely forced to attend a "joint" concert in DC with the National Symphony Orchesta and the Iraqi National Orchestra soon after the "fall" of Saddam (to "show" the budding "partnership" of our two nations, heavy-handed enough for ya?).
He literally looked like he would rather have his eyeballs torn out than have to sit there another minute. I don't think that little photo op occurred again!

Did I somehow cross into some parallel universe while I was asleep? WTF!

Posted by red_neck_repub at July 27, 2006 05:54 PMNews headline:
Graves of James Madison and Theodore Roosevelt have become churning vortices of dirt. It's belived that the two presidents mortal remains are spinning so fast that the earth's orbit may be affected.
In other news - Sony Classical is rumoured to have extended a recording contract to Condoleezza Rice.
Posted by idiosynchronic at July 27, 2006 06:05 PMMiddle East historian Fawaz Gergas was born in Lebanon and is now a professor in the US. In a fascinating interview on radio he focuses on Hezbollah and the political struggle inside Lebanon. He also talks about the conflict and its' wider implications.
“Lebanon has always been the under belly of the Arab world. It has always been the theater
for regional players”
(*)
“My biggest fear in Lebanon is that if the Shiat community takes a major blow, and if the Lebanese government caves to the demands of Israel and the United States, I fear that a bigger and broader sectarian fault line could emerge and wrack the country apart. In particular if Israel escalates… what you’ll have after the dust settles is a civil war.”

Posted by endless at July 27, 2006 06:10 PMPlus, Condi looked like a bad drag queen in that red satin thing.
Miss Condi Lingus hits the heights!
Posted by Christopher at July 27, 2006 06:20 PMI don't see the problem. This isn't our war. Why should the US be involved in this conflict? If Israel and Hizbollah want to duke it out, why not let them?
Posted by at July 27, 2006 06:38 PMThis isn't our war. Why should the US be involved in this conflict?
a) We're paying for it.
b) I don't think our ambition for the Middle East should be to see regional power struggles there handled by 'duking it out'. Ever seen a bar fight where the only thing that gets damaged is the two guys 'duking it out'?
Posted by snark at July 27, 2006 06:51 PMCondi's piano , while Israel bombs Beriut, ranks up there with her Shoe Shopping during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Oh well maybe their just waiting for August to get here, because we all know that Neo-cons don't work during the month of August.
Posted by americanforliberty at July 27, 2006 07:25 PMBTW, is that Kim Jong Il playing the violin?
Posted by snark at July 27, 2006 07:51 PMwhat the hell is Karen Hughes doing at State to help improve our image in the Middle East
They make burkas in size 42?
Posted by Christopher at July 27, 2006 08:18 PMSee a tongue-in-cheek visual of Condi's "Neocon Concerto"...here:
Posted by Daniel DiRito at July 27, 2006 08:32 PMguess who ignored the Administration’s warning to stay out of Venezuela, and signed a deal to sell weapons in our backyard to Hugo Chavez anyway
It was a fair tasde. No more fucking around in Latin America so as to fuck around in the Middle East. Both poorly, yet still fucking around (you'll notice bendito doesn't post because Venezuela is way off the neo-con radar).
Posted by phidfipides at July 27, 2006 11:21 PM1 Corona too many.
It was a fair tasde. It was a fair trade.
Neo-cons are still dumber than shit.
Posted by phidipides at July 27, 2006 11:29 PM7: Did you have anything to do with the dems new slogan: 6 FOR 06? This should work well, people can't remember 2 things much less 6.
Gonna need a lux suv for that bumper sticker.
Posted by TIKI AL at July 27, 2006 11:37 PMWhat is it with this Administration. While threats are made to "fly planes into buildings", Bush reads My Pet Goat to a kindergarden class. While men/women are dying in Iraq, Bush goes to "the Ranch" to cut wood and ride a bicycle. During Katrina, Condi goes shoe shopping. While a War rages on in the middle east, Condi gives a little concert by playing the piano.
Here's a reality check you bastards: 2571
Posted by Judith at July 28, 2006 01:37 AMThis just goes to show that truth is indeed way stranger than fiction...
Posted by John B. at July 28, 2006 06:57 AMWhen is Bendito going to play the piano ?
Posted by polimorf at July 28, 2006 07:10 AMJust an observation about Miss Condi...is it just me or has anyone else noticed the stiffness of her gait. Looks like she is walking with a pantsload. Just me I guess.
Posted by RAY at July 28, 2006 07:38 AMre: 'she can do one thing well'
Did you actually LISTEN to that playing?
She hardly played 'well'. In fact, seeing the whole thing made me sick to my stomach. The whole thing is so deeply deeply misguided and broken.
The way I read it, Condi's being played. 'Oh Ms. Rice you most important senior diplomat, won't you please entertain us with your marvelous talent?'
Please. Do you think anyone ENJOYED that 'performance'?
Reminds me of an elaborate setup like the mission impossible crowd used to pull, playing into the mark's arrogance.
She played well?
rather, she was played well.
She thinks she's talented. So the game is just to pander to her narcissistic sensibilities.
Posted by Joe at July 28, 2006 07:58 AMThe headline is true----at least she's good at something. If she can play classical piano, even imperfectly, that's a good thing. Reminiscent of the movie PATTON when Patton makes surprise appearance at the HQ is North Africa and catches a GI sleeping. "What the hell you doing down there, son?" "Sleeping, sir." "Well, get back down there son---you're the ONLY sombitch in this headquarters that knows what he's doing!
BTW, red neck repug, we're interested in the details of her closet lesbianismic trysts and also her kinky episodes with the Chimp. Spill the beans.
Oh the irony, playing "a prayer for peace", when she could actually try to accomplish it.
Posted by Nela at July 28, 2006 10:24 AMJust an observation.....
She is stiff for other reasons, if you know what I mean. Anyone care to chill some milk just hand the glass to condi.
Posted by americanforliberty at July 28, 2006 11:49 AMRay, she and Bush both have a stick up their collective asses.
Posted by Judith at July 28, 2006 03:22 PMEnchanting recital my dear. One is reminded of von Ribbentrop's divine interpretation of "Finlandia" at Theresienstadt on the first anniversary of Operation Barbarossa.
Do you have any affection for Ives? Copland, perhaps? We're putting something together for Eid at Camp Xray. You'd be superb. I mean it.
Oh, Madam Secretary. Nice shoes! Dilettante.
Posted by Pvt. Keepout at July 28, 2006 07:58 PMWhat an idiot! She got someone ELSE to play the fiddle! She doesn't even know how to fiddle while Baghdad and Beirut burn!
