You seem okay so far, scout. Distill it so it's concise (only my opinion. I can bloviate with the best of them sometimes). I am waiting in the wings with a big can of antidominionism whoop-ass. When we have the next TLC annual convention...at which I hope Judith and Sharon do their dead-on Bush Cheney lip syncs once again...do you only drink holy water with your bourbon? Will bottled be okay?

I grew up in Texas. The Young Life people were always after you. I remember one time, I had just graduated from high school and this one young lifer I went to school with drove up with some other girls. I was sitting on the back of my car drinking a beer and she comes over and starts preaching to me. Then she tells me I am going to hell and that I think it will be fun and like a big pool hall with all my friends there, bit it won't be like that. It will be like a big garbage can and etc. I was sitting there thinking to myself that all I wanted to do was drink this beer after a hot day of working construction and this is what I get.
I left Texas (lived out of the country for a number of years0 to escape them and they have taken over the country. Who would have ever have thunk it! That a bunch of uneducated idiots would be in power. The rest of the world is just shaking its head at us.
Posted by Ishmael at August 16, 2006 10:34 PM“The rest of the world is just shaking its head at us.”
Sadly, I believe it is more than that, Ishmael.
Yep, I believe than more than just shaking its head the world is actually scared witless. After all, for anyone out “there” with the least of gray matter between the eyes the ominous notion that “here” happens to sit the biggest lethal arsenal of…you name it, isn’t something that scuttles too far from the mind. And, likewise, the notion that a bunch of quasi-elected (or not at all, but reigning) loose nuts can have the chance of suffering a bloody brain fart that may force them to hit the red button is not a piece of cake either.
"There is an option still left to the United States of America, that it is in their choice and depends upon their conduct, whether they will be respectable and prosperous or contemptible and miserable as a Nation." George Washington
All in all, and perhaps due to self-preservation (by now the mind is getting too feeble to allow for any loose nuts to penetrate it without doing…something!) for my part I still hang on to the notions that I’ve held on to since I was a child: That this is a wonderful country with a whole lot of wonderful beings (albeit, presently, it would appear that far, too many, may be sleeping at the wheel), and also that its wise founding fathers left a too wonderful, and a too important of a legacy not to wake up the worst of the siesta takers.
"As long as the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their Virtue they will be ready to surrender their Liberties to the first external or internal invader... If Virtue and Knowledge are diffused among the people, they will never be enslaved. This will be their great Security." Samuel Adams
In view of above, who knows, maybe starting to suggest (and non-stop) to everyone—but most particularly those affected with the nasty bug of trollinitis—the reading of what some of your founders left for all the world to learn and admire would be a place to start. Reading that, more likely than not, could be more helpful to help re-instill what is it that the USA is supposed to be than trying to make “insiders” see the cruel reality that many “outsiders” are plenty aware off and, for quite a while already. Ay, that, sadly, far too many things “here” seem to be going straight to pot and those truly in charge of the country—the people—better start thinking about waking up.
"[It is] the people, to whom all authority belongs." Thomas Jefferson
Indeed.

So at the Air Force Academy, the male cadets are getting religion forced down their throats, the female cadets are getting the male cadets forced down their throats, and in the future, Korea, Syria, and Iran are getting neocon nuclear invasions forced down their throats?
Well if that don't bring on the rapture, Walmart's gettin' their damn acension robe forced back down their throat.

These insane god-fetishists are damaged on a fundamental level and should be the ones ostracised and continuously vilified. They want to turn this country into a backward feudal system using god as a whip and race as a divider. The best way to do that is get rid of public education and replace it with catechism. If normal christians can't marginalize the freaks like dobson and this icky troll what loves you, the US will not exist for much longer. I was speaking to my 78 year-old mother about dominionism and their beliefs about women and slavery. [Editor: ignore=off]Personally, being from South Central US, I have found a large number of women drawn to the Fundamentalist. I can't figure it out but it must be fear.
I was up working around the Beverly, Mass area about a year ago outside of Salem and a little ways from Boston. Someone from Boston was explaninging to me that here was where the Italians lived and here was where the Irish lived and ect. I go ok, where did the Puritans live. They look at me and tell me that the Puritians were so hated by everyone they were ran out of Boston to Salem Village (not Salem). There the Puritians kind of turned on themselves and ended up having the witch trials and killed a bunch of each other. I found it a little interesting that these christian fundamentalists turned on each other. Kind of like some kind of sick animal. By the way, for those that did not know the Puritians were forerunners to Annabaptist who were the forerunners of the Baptist.
The other thing I find interesting is that after Cromwell died, the people of England were so tired of the Puritians that they basically ran them out of the country. That is how the Puritians ended up here.
I think this is why Europe looks on with aghast upon the US. They have had several episodes of religious fundamentalism and repreated in the end over turned them. They can not believe the US is going down this road.
I just hope the US comes to its senses. As an earlier post indicated. It is pretty scary to have a holier than thou type person with their finger on the football.
I also found it funny that everyone thinks Salem is where the witch trials were when really they were in Salem Village which has since changed its name. If you go to Salem at night all sorts of visitors are wandering around in witch outfits. I thought it was kind or ironic because a bunch of people were wanting to practice their druid arts at what they thought was the heart of witch craft and they were in the wrong freaking place. Nothing like coming out of the local microbrewery and seeing a bunch of people dressed like witches wandering the streets.
Posted by Ishmael at August 17, 2006 02:03 PMscout, you send her here, and I'll teach her the ropes, and a couple swear words, then I'll tell her all about your secret life. Yeah, I'll be nice alright, hehehehe.
What kind of girly-boy would send gramma to a blog where he's not wanted, and where she's gonna get an eyeful of some reality? Seriously, though, is your real name Norman? Because not only did you just make that story up, but you're gonna come in and pretend to be gramma. I'll bet you're wearing a wig and an old lady dress right this minute.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 17, 2006 03:08 PMIshmael, women aren't drawn to fundamentalism, but they are lured into it by the fetishization of the woman on a pedestal, the madonna figure. Oh sure, they're revered in theory but only as a receptacle for baby after baby, until their own personalities are erased and they're just a cardboard cutout plastered with Mary Kay and selling Amway with a passel of snot nosed zombies trailing behind them. As young girls, they're bound to the sons of other fundies before they get a taste of freedom and are lured by making a big deal out of weddings - there are only two times in a fundie girl's life that she gets attention - when she marries and when she spews her spawn for the army of hate. It looks like the guy is all protective and loving and reverent, but that's a tradeoff for her total subjugation of self and blind loyalty to a guy that probably beats her, surely messes around on her, and if she's lucky, ignores her.
Anyhow, "Salem" was loads of fun, I thought. Great museums and shops!

Cromwell made no friends. He destoyed anything dealing with catholics. Most abbeys were knocked to the ground. Cromwell was a take no prisoner type of person. In the end after he died and Charles 2 came back, they dug of the body, drawn and quartered it and burned it. How to win friends and influence enemies.
I do not know what you mean when you say Biblical truth.
Posted by Ishmael at August 17, 2006 09:28 PMIshmael, sadly, as you can see, the troll is mad. He previously announced he's a prophet, and the rest of us were walking dead, who cannot be saved. He comes to taunt us about it and spew his version of hatred. As you can see, he's pretending Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies is his gramma and she's gonna come 'skin' me and call me goose. Later, we'll go out to the ce-ment pond 'cos it helps with her rheumatis'
His madness isn't immediatly apparent; it shows up later when people have responded to him. I'm trying to shake it out early because his posts tend to involve miles of word salad with just enough lucidity to make you wonder. He's fixated on me because I call him on his wackiness, and have figured out various embarrassing details about what type of freak he is. Lately, he's fixated on dogs, a la Santorum, and seems to find secret meaning in people's choices of screen names. His schtick: Corps evil because they don't operate under "biblical truth." We are evil because we don't operate under "biblical truth." Gays are an abomination because they don't operate under "biblical truth." Women are evil except for the one trapped in his basement. And biblical truth is anything he says it is.

Posted by iamcoyote at August 18, 2006 07:16 AMJust call me Ishmael!
The old testament is ancient history. Jesus Christ came to earth to offer a new path. That path was instead of an "eye for an eye" it was turn the other cheek.
Accordingly, anyone who quotes the old testament is really working against what Christ came to earth for.
This whole revelation thing makes me sick. There is nothing worse than a bunch of people walking around wishing for the end of the world. Do they have so little going on in their lives.
You are not getting my message on Cromwell, the Lord Protector. Any twenty years of his so called piety which included mass killings and destruction similar to Lebanon, the average person in England turned against him and ran religious extremist out of the country. Most people in Europe look upon relgiious extremism as something to be very afraid of. Religious extremism preys on the weak and attempts to manipulate people.
Ishmael, there you have it. scout fancies himself an OT prophet and - get this! - he sees bendittohead as a prophet as well. The guy's got some pretty heavy, ahem, issues.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 18, 2006 08:53 AMiamcoyote:
I hate quoting religion, because I am just about the most religious guy you will ever meet. I just hate people saying they are Christians (followers of Christ) and then quoting the old testament. Just shows they do not understand.
The old testament is a suppressing document so all the guys like Pat Robertson use it to suppress people. Jesus Christ on the other hand is what we now call an empowering person. The religious fundamentalist do not quote him to often because what he had to say works against them.
Posted by Ishmael at August 18, 2006 09:44 AMIshmael, I was brought up Catholic, married and divorced a rabid Baptist (who couldn't stop loving the one he was with, even if it wasn't his wife), and now am atheist (though I don't like the term). I've known many supposed Christians in my life and realized very few actually follow Jesus' teachings. I think many, like scout here, pick and choose what they want to believe out of the bible based on personal biases, although I have a suspicion that scout is schizophrenic, having experience with a few of those over the years as well. He claims to be a prophet, not a Christian, so who knows (or cares) what the hell he believes.
One of my favorite people at work is a devout Christian - I love her to death, because she walks the walk. You shouldn't have to drill your faith into other people's heads, you should model your faith, as Jesus asked, and let the glow draw folks to you. Most people with an animosity toward religion have been influenced by those claiming to be religious but are more like Fred Phelps in their seething hatred of everyone but themselves.
I think ideologically, you and I might be at odds on some issues, but I believe you're one that walks the walk, and I respect that.

I doubt that we agree on all subjects, but I do not suppress people or tolerate suppression.
My father (who was a second commander) has said more than once that I have no respect for authority. Funny, I have heard that from many people I work for. The really funny part is they are happy as punch when I am helping to move their agenda but when we reach a point where I can not agree with them and all of the people in the room are shaking their head yes and I stand up in the room and say I do not agree, then I do not have a respect for authority. Needless to say, I have been fired many times, but in the end I usually have been proven right.

Your comment reminds me of someone who worked for me one time. A very intelligent lady that I had a lot of respect for. I gave evey department 3% for raises. Every Director/Manager got to allocate the 3% in whatever way they wanted. She came in and wanted to give a big raise to one player in her department but that took up most of her budget. I said fine but no one else gets any raises. Her response was "that was not fair."
Having lived and worked in many places in the world my answer was "You got the fair end of the stick when you were born in this country." She was just looking at her needs but directly I had to deal with the needs of 400 people and indirectly 10,000. My raise -- zero.
Oh yes, I can be a hard ass, but on the other hand when the world is lined up against you and you are on the side of right you will have an ally.
Posted by Ishmael at August 18, 2006 11:50 AMEver notice how the Religious Wrong almost never references arguably the most unique and significant portion of the N.T, The Beatitudes and The Sermon on the Mount? They've relegated it to the deleted scenes part of their "brains," and now it's Blessed are the Supply Siders, (Bendito's favorite) Blessed are those opposed to confiscatory socialism, and Blessed are those that know terr-ists use human shields..
This where Scout chimes and tells me that Im incapable of understanding The Sermon on the Mount because Im not "one of the elect".

scout, When will you understand that most good Christian's, even liberal Christian's, don't agree with you. You are a very small minority and on this thread, the only one. I would like to discourage you on trying to persuade everyone to your lonely viewpoint. This is most of the problem and creates a majority of the hostilities towards you.
If you think I'm wrong, well then, "Rock on dude!"
