"Terrorists are waiting for the Democrats here to take control, let things cool off and then strike again."
-- Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), quoted by the Salt Lake Tribune
Posted by Right Fools at August 18, 2006 08:00 AMDuckman, Josh Marshall said the same thing about Lamont - I don't think Ned realized how Republican HoJo is, evil never sleeps. Time to fight, that's for sure. And Bush's promise to revisit Social Security should be blasting 24/7 from every Dem outlet.
I heard lobbyist orgs are starting to hire dems again; you think they know something?
Posted by iamcoyote at August 18, 2006 08:07 AMMaybe it was unwise not to come roaring out of the primary; I don't know. But I think it's a mistake to compare the current status quo with some imagined world in which Lamont did come out with both guns blazing, and Joe's support magically vanished. That wasn't going to happen.
There's still a couple of months until the election. When we still had this much time before the primary, most observers--including myself--thought there was absolutely no way Lamont could win, and it was just nice that he was running to put some pressure on Holy Joe.
I think it would be good not to get overwrought about things right now. Joe's a dick, and he'll be reminding people he's a dick for the next two months. It's already worked for us once.
Posted by dj moonbat at August 18, 2006 09:32 AMMy comment has to do with your last statement:
"Better to die fighting free than to live on your knees enslaved to their corporate fascism, enthralled by walmart and exxon, don't you think?"
It is the beginning of wisdom, I think, to realize that those are not the only, or the best, alternatives.
Posted by Michael Meo at August 18, 2006 11:25 AMLamont needs the week to get his staff organized, and to build the bridges to former Lieberman endorcers within the Democratic Party. Let's hope he's been doing just that.
After this week, though, it's "Hit 'em again... harder, Ned!" and there won't be any time to get organized. It really is now or never.
Posted by pessimist at August 18, 2006 12:01 PMHas anyone else had the thought that if Joe (R-Sumbitch) had fought half this hard six years ago, he'd be halfway through his second term as Al Gore's VP and the undisputed frontrunner for 2008?

At what point did the patriots, and I am blessed to have American Revolutionarys from North Carolina in my family lineage, make a decision that they weren't going to be dicked with any longer? At what point were they willing to die to form this great country? At what point did they put ALL of their personal wealth on the line? At what point did these people take up arms to secure the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
But you know me. I'm just a big Broke Back Mountain Hollywood left coast liberal faggot. Please excuse me. I have to go finish crocheting a monogrammed ammo cozy for my Barrett .50.
Posted by phidipides at August 18, 2006 05:43 PMWell, if you recall, that was how the only true patriots gop used to talk, ala "Red Dawn."
There are, of course, better and more sophisticated alternatives, but that's what the gop used to talk, better dead than Red and all that.
So who's the cowards, the gop hypocrits, or the Democrats that booted wanker lieberthrall out?
