I had an awful dream last night that unfolded like this: The US completes its pseudo-diplomacy with Iran and a week before the November elections launches 2000 cruise missles into Iran at various military/nuclear targets. The Shia in Iraq revolt and sever US supply lines through southern Iraq. A 400,000 man Iranian task force executes a pincer movement from the north and south of Bagdhad. A ill-timed sandstorm prevents many of our troops from evacuating and supresses fighter/helicopter support. When the dust clears, 100,000 of our brave soliders are dead and CNN records this generations scene of the evacuation of Saigon as a few weary soldiers scramble aboard helicopters on the roof of a building in the Green zone. With our conventional military effectively destroyed, Russia and China launch a joint invasion of the US, splitting the country in half. Our command and control structure is disabled before launching a nuclear strike on either country. Have a nice day... ;)

Posted by ann at August 24, 2006 05:18 AMAhhhhh! The poor christo-fascists. They just can't get their own way. Soon they will be back to doing what they had to do in the past: Wear pointy pillow sacks with eyeholes over their heads and burn crosses in fields. Damn, if only they could lynch a few gays and the assorted Sand Nigger. Well, they still do that, it just isn't as formalized as it used to be.

Can I be in the part that gets Chinese food? Beet soup just isn't my thing.

Don't look now, but they have 60 of them and going for thousands by end of the decade. The big diffrence is the communists forced Wally-World to allow unions, and their workers get bennies. God damnit! How can they ever be capitalists if they take care of their workers!?
Posted by phidipides at August 24, 2006 05:56 AMRoy, that was pretty damn realistic until the point where we were invaded. China holds too much of our debt to invade (it's much more advantageous and less bloody), and I think Russia is too corrupt and incompetent to make a serious extra-national invasion. And I probably have blindspot relating to the unbroken century-and-a-half of uninterrupted American sovergnity.
The right-wing moralists are mad that they're not getting the front-seat? Where the fuck have they been all summer as Congress and various state organizations have been peddling their religious agendas?
On a another note - I've been listening to YoLaLa for the last couple days. I've always been a hip-hop fan of the good stuff, but the French version has sweeter beats and better sampling. The blogger has a good sense of humour too - "For you artsy-fartsy types, you will have noticed that the backbeat samples came from another French source, the electronica group Air."

Posted by jjoats at August 24, 2006 07:13 AMWell, sooner or later they had to get an inkling that it was the Devil whispering in George's ear, not God.
And the Devil ain't done yet.
And they've discovered they like the devil's plan better.
Posted by iamcoyote at August 24, 2006 07:49 AMIran will invade the US from Mexico with a million man army wearing baseball hats and a few sombreros to complete the illusion of business as usual.
After the neocon executions, Texas will suffer a scorched earth policy out of spite. After being informed that bush was not born there, they will burn Connecticut also.
Posted by TIKI AL at August 24, 2006 08:31 AMThis is a scary ass article. In oh so many ways. Holy crap. I just do not know what to say, really.
Posted by Anjha at August 24, 2006 02:30 PMAnjha,
Having seen this article in other places the last couple of days, I can tell you that it's full of holes. First, the author says that 80% of all children vote as their parents did, but gives no links or other backup for that claim.
Also, the poor historically have more children than the rich. Poorer voters tend to vote Democrat. That hasn't keep Republicans from winning elections. Also, new immigrant citizens tend to vote Democratic and have large families. That is at least a partial offset to any validity the article has.
Speaking of validity, consider the scorce. Unlike the highly respected and objective finiancial reporting in the Wall St. Jourrnal, the op eds. tend towards wingery. They tend to make predictions that they hope will come true. IMHO, this article falls into that category.
Finally, it all of these conservative parents are producing political carbon copies of themselves, why did Kerry win big in the under 30 age bracket in 2004? The GI generation always remembered its new deal public ethos and voted accordingly while raising a generation of boomer children who have tended slightly Republican. The boomers have raised the 'echo boom' or millinnals, who show every sign of being more like their GI grandparents politically than their boomer parents. The success Kerry had with this age group in 2004 is just one example of this.
