Comments: Christian Christmas Wishes

I think the Left should take a debate to the Right-wingers on whether it's better to Do good stuff or just say you believe something.

Then we could measure up the good and the bad, and see if they can even see out of the hole they've dug.
Some people live in a hole and think they can see the horizon.

Gee, does it mean I have to send a Christmas card to a lawyer, if his name is say, Schlomo Lifschultz?

I think a Hannukah card would be more appropriate, or is this anti Jewish as well as anti seperation?

So, maybe we should send Eid al Fitr cards in Arabic to Christianists? You now, politely, and not rude, for this isn't the Muslim way.

Yeah, that should get your COG(CA) pal's panties all in a twist!

A webcomic that gives a quickie rundown of the creation of Christmas. There is some nudity and adult content so be warned.

Just great. Noe the neo-con noise machine is once again hitting the lie that the ACLU is after Christmas cards. Buffoons, the lot of them.

Lovely Saturnalia comic! I am dusting off my lawn ornaments in anticipation. A hippo pulling a chariot with a Wagnerian diva in a horned helmet holding a trident in her hand is sure to please the neighbors once again.

ok. Wait.
They're Christmas trees even in the fields? What the heck is up with that?

Posted by Gravity at September 2, 2006 01:57 PM

Well, the Boy Scouts must have dumped another load of used Xmas trees in the field again. Damn! They promised they would be more careful!!

Yeah, Gravity -- If memory serves, a 'field' with trees is called: "The Woods". [and if I know my fellow bloggers, someone will run with that...]

Two tons of Christmas cards would freeze their operations because they wouldn't know if any were regular mail containing contributions.

Christ, what does she think? That the ACLU is running a basement bake sale and can't handle an upsurge in correspondence? The organization that takes on constitutional issues against The Big Boys can't handle an influx of Xmas Cards? Honestly, I have stopped wondering when these people just hung up their brains and began consuming the pablum spoon fed to them.

By the way, who on earth says that all the mail received would be opened the day of receipt? Stuff waits to be opened all the time. Checks inside have six months before stale-dated. The Xmas cards will fill the recycle bins. In that case, perhaps they will come to some good in their recycled form.

They must not realize that the ACLU has defended the rights of Christians many many times. Someone needs to start circulating an email listing what the ACLU has done for them.

I got one from my 85yo cousin in TN. Sent him back telling him that I'm a member of ACLU and an atheist an believe strongly in separation of church and state. I wonder if I'll hear from him again.

How sad, that with all the actual problems and injustices in the world, they decide to take action against one they made up.

Wouldn't the Christian thing be to gather up all of their money they would have spent on cards and stamps, and buy food for the hungry, or medicine for the sick?

I pity them.

biggerb, they'd much rather play the victims, than help any actual victims.

I am calling on all of my fellow Agnostic Hedonists to send Halloween cards with a box of chocolate this Christmas.

Fight hellfire with hellfire, I always say.

hey, i rather agree with biggerbox. try sending free online christmas ecards than spending money on paper ones n try n help the victims. I found some cool stuff on Christmas Blogspot. check it out.

Heh, I'm the VP of the ACLU chapter at my university, and when my extremist Christian aunt found out about it, she literally pushed me into the couch and tried to stage an impromptu "intervention." This was during my mom's birthday party too, so it was doubly embarrassing. I tried to explain how, yes, the ACLU has defended Christians in the past and will continue to do so, but she refused to listen, having been indoctrinated too much. The best example I can remember is when they defended Christians trying to proselytize on the streets of Las Vegas.

Here's a list of religious cases the ACLU has had a hand in; some were fought to create decidedly secular results, but many were not.
