Bravo Steve. I think every pro-war politician should be asked that question. I have asked this question of every pro war person I know. Not one has a relative over there and not one would be willing to have one of his or her relatives die in Bush's War. But they sure as hell support it themselves. One claims to pray for our troops (I guess God ain't listening). And, of course, many have the "support our troops" stickers on their cars. Oh, yeah. Everyone of them is a Republican.

Posted by TIKI AL at September 3, 2006 05:46 PMFunny, this discussion came up at a bar-b-que I went to. A guy says, "Every kid from ages 18-24 should serve in the US Military"! I mention to him, "Even the bu$h'$ twins?" He kind of gives me this, "Well, their could be certain jobs they could do in the rear guard"! I said, "Oh, just like their Dad!" and walked away.
This has to be the criteria for advocating war: Put every healthy republi-con (politician's) congressman's son or daughter on the front lines. Then let's see how quick we come up with a peaceful solution for war!
Phil, I have to say that my wingnut sister is a rabid hawk. Her son, my nephew is serving in the Marines. Been to Iraq a couple of times. His family does have a long line of Marine heritage though. She works at the DoD CENTCOM, husband ex-lifer Marine. Grandfather decorated Marine war hero from the Pacific theater.
I am proud of him but would rather see him home safe with his 3 little girls!
Steve, With Labor Day approaching thanks for bringing up what has to be one of the toughest jobs in the world to do day in and day out, 24/7!! Hats off to the troops!
Posted by Seven of Six at September 3, 2006 06:24 PMi want to thank you for revealing that this hypocon was a c.o. during the vietnam era.
and did the peace corps no less.
the only c.o. i knew served as a corpsman, in nam, with an infantry company that came under hostile fire.
he continues to puzzle me because he rigorously supports amerikan war-mongering. amerikan imperialism. apparently his c.o. status was based solely on his preference not to take another life, not on some more general principle of pacifism, opposition to mass murdering.
and shays is just a skating sleazeball. another coverboy for the macho republicans and neo-fascists who could never trouble themselves with either wearing a uniform or wearing one honorably.
i think you know whom i mean.
all of them quite proud of their ability to invest others into the maw of the war grinder.
the saddest thing of course is how the demtillians refrain from attacking this reptillian salient. i suppose that the mic pac money is just too prized.
and i was so astonished by this revealing of shay's co status that i failed to express my outrage over his peace corps duty station.
fiji.
who was he blowing or his wife screwing? fiji is a resort. doing a peace corp stint on fiji is tantamount to doing one on bora bora. or tahiti. or maui.
i think someone needs to do an analysis of hypocon shays in much the same fashion cowardly joe lieberman is being examined.
shine the light.
