AL is great. MSNBC seems to be interested in the role of the Corrector this week. Olbermann's ratings have always been their best but he proved a point when he got even better ratings after the Rummy pushback. He used ABC on his worst person of the world and now, not to be outdone, I see Matthews has scheduled for this week pieces on the Real 9/11 story. I can't believe it will be a ratings war to see who can get to the truth, but may be. As much sunlight as we can all spread prior to ABC running the piece the better.
Posted by mainsailset at September 6, 2006 07:15 AMWell now I'm upset, and although it will be difficult, we are going to boycott "The View", "Access Hollywood", and the intellectually stimulating "Wheel Of Fortune".

Posted by paradox at September 6, 2006 07:30 AMThanks for the kind words, paradox.
On quick correction. The title of the 2003 mini-series was The Reagans. The "20th Century's Greatest President" was just a reference to some of hagiographical stuff written about Reagan by his right-wing admirers. Sorry for the confusion.

The bottom line is ABC wants ratings, and "reality" shows just aren't doing it for the networks anymore. It seems to me using the right wing noise machine to broadcast the controversy is just another marketing tool. Oh, sure, the muckety mucks are probably happy to do the bushies a favor, but after watching a bit of tv over the last few days, with the bombardment of "be afraid" headlines, people are getting sick of all terror all the time. They're going to have tuned it out by November, I think; just as they tuned out the blue dress after a while.
You're right, paradox that no matter how much we write and complain, they're gonna show this thing. One thing our side won't do that the 'pukes did for Reagan is we won't resort to astroturf mass mailings.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 6, 2006 08:49 AMWhat? You thought we live in a democracy?
I don't think too many folks here are saddled with that quiant notion.
It's interesting to read your comments simply for the theatric battle between the corporate social control you decry and biblical social control you espouse.

Bush
Crony
Funny that they chose to suck GOPcock at a time when that John is about ready to lose his cash.
Posted by God Of War at September 6, 2006 08:53 AMWere elected GOoPers involved in the Reagan CBS protest?
Can't some national Dems point out that intentionally airing hours and hours of false conservative-generated propaganda about security and terrorism six weeks before a national election (which the GOP is running exclusively on terror and security) is, ummm, a bit unfair?
Or is it better for them to describe what's going on, explain that this as an intentional effort by conservatives and Republicans to unfairly influence the upcoming election, and point out that this is simply a sign of how bad things have gotten---that the national media are now intimately involved in trying to preserve the disastrous conservative Republican status quo, and that this is a clear warning signal about how deeply our republic is in danger?
That ABC thinks it can do this in this political climate is very telling. They have no fear of a Democratic Congress coming into existence whatever. Ignoring this disturbing development will not be a good idea, Dems.
Posted by euzoius at September 6, 2006 08:57 AMeuzoius, if the dems raise a stink now, even more people will watch the dang thing, to see what the stink is all about. Don't give it anymore advertising than it's already gotten, I say. Take it apart after it's aired, sure - it's a tv movie, it's sure to be crap no matter what the subject, right?
And this won't be the first time the media has helped out the 'pukes just before an election, is it? Didn't the NYT hold off on the NSA story for a year? How about Matt Cooper and Time keeping the Plame story under wraps? How about Bin Laden showing up just before the 2004 elections, and the swiftboating garbage.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 6, 2006 09:22 AMTaylor Marsh has a fascinating rundown of the money man behind the Swiftboaters http://www.taylormarsh.com/ with the idea that he probably is heavily involved in the ABC piece. Interesting to how fine a line is walked to legally, and I use the word loosley, finance these hit pieces.

There are other ways to satisfy those needs, coyote.
Jus' sayin.
Posted by idiosynchronic at September 6, 2006 10:35 AMidio, you're right, who need tv when we have the 'nets!
Posted by iamcoyote at September 6, 2006 10:39 AMAll right, your argument is logical, coyote, but six hours of nationally distributed, professionally created propaganda exhonerating Nero and his 9/11 negligence six weeks before the election is not meaningless---Rove and Team Conservative aren't doing it because it's likely to have no effect on voters.
Taking the shit-series apart after it has aired, and characterizing it as conservative propaganda aided and abetted by a television network to influence the election and help Republicans retain control of Congress, is necessary, IMO.

Most definitely, euzoius, it should be trumpeted what a blatant attempt at propogandizing a national tragedy this film is. ABC and Rove and Rush should be vilified and laughed at for once again blaming Bush's failures on Clinton. It's also a good opportunity to highlight Bush failures on that day, and all the days in between. They want to talk about 9-11 and OBL, well, okay, let's really talk about them. I think this whole terrorterror thing is going to backfire on them bigtime. Let them play the "blame game" - we'll counter with the truth game. I think people are ready to listen, now that they've seen what a miserable failure the neocon agenda really is.

Posted by iamcoyote at September 6, 2006 11:12 AMWe're in agreement, then, and Dems should tell ABC "OK, terror-boys, howsabout airing Fahrenheit 911 NOW?"
Posted by euzoius at September 6, 2006 11:35 AMYep, I certainly agree - even if it's just the Pet Goat scene, with a clip of Condi's "I believe the title was 'Bin Laden Determined to Strike America'" sneer that they air, it'd be an effective counterpoint.
Posted by iamcoyote at September 6, 2006 11:44 AMSen. Jim DeMint(R-South Carolina) has just said on the floor of the Senate that Clinton did nothing about terrorism in 8 years.(C-Span-2)
