Comments: How 43% Of America Can Be Conned

dick the dog hopes we will go away

Steve,

Your frustration is understandable.

Did you know that there are still some people who think Joe Wilson “debunked” the 16 words in SOTU?

If people would just take the time to read and understand the SSCI, this would be a better world.

Posted by jwest at September 8, 2006 10:07 AM

SO now we have proof, given to us by our own government, that the CIA told Bush/Cheney BEFORE the Iraq war that Saddam had no ties to Al Qaeda. Lied us into war, 2600+ American GI's dead.
George W. Bush, the War President.

West, You are a proven Liar!! Why do you bother posting?

If 43% of Americans are still so dim and stubborn as to believe that Sadaam Hussein was personally involved in 9/11, ABC really cannot show their fictionalized account of the Path to 9/11.

Steve,

Your frustration is really understandable.

Did you know that there are still some people so “dim and stubborn” that they think the sole reason we went to war in Iraq was a connection between Saddam and Al Qaeda?

If people would just take the time to read and understand the SSCI, this would be a better world.

57% of those Americans who still believe that Sadaam was personally involved in 9/11 do not have a high school diploma. Says a lot, doesn't it?

Posted by ann at September 8, 2006 10:48 AM

ujest, if most Americans who still believe that Sadaam was personally involved in 9/11 don't even have a high school diploma, there's no way they could read and understand the SSCI.

Sick
Stupid
Conservative
Indoctrination

Sadaam gave $ to suicide bombers families.
9-11 was carried out by suicide bombers.
Therefore Sadaam was responsible for 9-11.

Now we know that "some of the people all of the time" = 40%, more or less.

The people that believe this crap are mentally challenged. I know and work with some of these people. I am concerned where we are going with people like this that will blindly follow a moron.

Ann,

Steve made a point about how large groups of people can be conned.

You seem to be trying to link a propensity for believing lies to a lack of reading and comprehension skills. I would tend to agree with you. However, you also appear to be linking this same lack of reading skills to republican voters. I need to differ with on this point.

If your correlation is correct, wouldn’t the cities with worst reading and graduation rates be overwhelmingly republican? Washington, Baltimore, Cleveland, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Detroit, etc. should all be conservative strongholds according to your theory.

People who lack basic academic skills are ill equipped to understand complex issues and are therefore easily manipulated. And manipulated they have been – by democrats.

History will hold the democrat party/teacher’s union Faustian bargain as the reason millions of lives were doomed to poverty and ignorance, all so a few liberals could be elected.

Posted by jwest at September 8, 2006 11:20 AM

That's not enough. They also need to admit that not only was there no connection or were there no WMDs, Bush and Cheney knew it before they started this war of choice. The carnage is on their heads.

ujest, I am simply reporting the facts.

Posted by ann at September 8, 2006 11:33 AM

Nice attempt at misdirection into poverty and education policy, but OT (as usual) for the "clever" conservative.

I think the basis for most of these factually erroneous views is cable news, which has dozens of conservative "personalities" who directly tell viewers that Saddam HAD ties to al qaeda. This continues to this very day, and will continue despite (yet another) government report to the contrary.

Right Wing internet shit troughs have also continuously spread this lie literally for years.

But Television "news" and conservative info-tainment, cable in particular, is where the propaganda is being mass-delivered, to the most uneducated and ill-informed classes.

What portion of the infamous 43% would describe themselves as "conservative", do you think?

Posted by euzoius at September 8, 2006 11:45 AM

Well Saddam is EVIL.

And al-Qaida is EVIL.

And you're either with us or with the terrorists.

So....

I think jwest wants attention.

stop giving him any.

Posted by Yourworstnightmare at September 8, 2006 11:50 AM

I wasn’t trying to change the subject, but Ann was pounding on the “no high school diploma” crowd, which, as we all know, is composed mainly of people who vote for democrats.

You are correct in your assessment that shows like Olbermann and Hardball prey on the ill-informed. But, far be it for a conservative like me to try to alter or censor anything they want to say.

I wasn't making any point about the politics of those who believe Sadaam was involved in 9/11. I was merely pointing out that if we have that many uniformed people out there, ABC really shouldn't be airing a factually erroneous dramatization based on 9/11 because clearly we have an uneducated population out there, and we really shouldn't feed them misinformation. No Child Left Behind, indeed.

Ann,

My mistake. I must have been reading more into your comments than was there.

As to your point, are there any other films/TV/radio shows that you feel should not be presented to the uneducated portion of the population?

In his Couric Interview, Bush said, "one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." (4:49 in on "Couric and the President)

As a related subject on the “uneducated”…..

Isn’t it frustrating that certain people can spend hours researching important subjects, establish well-founded opinions, wait hours in the pouring rain to vote in ill-equipped precincts and then, have their vote negated by someone who is totally uninformed, who lacks the basic ability to even begin to understand the issues, breezing into well run voting station and voting opposite the of you?

If so, is there anything that can or should be done about it?

Agreed Steve...like totally fu*kin' duh...Saddam and Al Quaeda weren't linked...bin Hidin has been on record for hating Sadman for over five years....you just gotta love the way all these fucks ameliorate their stupidity...simply put out a report 3 years after the fact but continue to point fingers.....what a country...what a concept!!

Posted by Goyo at September 8, 2006 02:58 PM

And think of this: 36% of Americans believe the US government was behind 9/11, according to the Washington Post today. So 43% believe Saddam did it. 36% believe Bush did. Assuming there is a crossover of 10% who probably believe both Saddam and Bush did it, that means almost 70% of Americans believe that either Saddam Hussein or George W. Bush was behind 9/11. Either these polls are utterly useless, or this country is filled with absolute idiots.
