the Air Force, which is already chopping 40,000 active duty, civilian and reserves jobs, is now struggling to find new ways to slash about $1.8 billion from its budget
I am rolling on the floor with this one! So, Congress hasn't appropriated enough money for the Air Force? Bushco is cutting back on the Air Force! Oh my god, the insanity of the republi-cons is (help me! I need some adjectives that fit this stupidity)
And new microwave weapons tested against American civilians to make sure they don't hurt anyone on the battlefied? Fucking lunatics!
Posted by phidpides at September 13, 2006 10:25 AMWhat troubles me about this story is the idea that the Air Force Sec'y anticipates there will be unruly crowds demanding control in the US (like, if an election gets stolen and the populace will have none of it).
Posted by Danton at September 13, 2006 10:31 AMSteve, here's a link with the full story for those that don't subscribe to the NYT.

Posted by Cernig at September 13, 2006 10:38 AMWell, I for one can't think of a better place to test biological weapons than in the United States. A huge portion of the population is uninsured, so you could measure the long-term untreated health effects of these weapons. That's a real money saver in republi-con land.
Posted by phidipides at September 13, 2006 10:46 AM"...nutcases who openly talk about using American citizens as guinea pigs for weapons tests."
Now let's not foreclose a debate on the case's merits with ad hominem attacks. OK? We're agreed then.
Here goes. Now, let's see...AFSec Michael Wynne...American citizen. Yes or no? Yes!
Wynne...citizen! Check.
Rumsfeld...citizen! Check.
Cambone...citizen! Check.
We got ourselves a cohort here. Let's keep going, OK?
Cheney...citizen! Check.

Hey, Bush...definitely a citzen! Check.
Cohort's getting bigger.
Anyone else know any good citizens for our big test?
Ahoy, Condi. Nice shoes! Citizen.
Because, you know, the Bush/Cheney administration is all about inflicting excrutiating pain on Americans...and inflicting excrutiating pain is exactly what this weapon is designed to do. In testing, they wouldn't let subjects wear contact lenses in case it fried their eyeballs!

Or after martial law is declared!
In testing, they wouldn't let subjects wear contact lenses in case it fried their eyeballs!
News report 2007: "Irresponsible members of the crowd, who assembled to protest Medicare co-pay increases, held up large sheets of silvered mylar and reflected the beam back to it's origins. Others wielded large wardrobe mirrors. 120 senior citizens died during the demonstration when the Pentagon was forced to use machine guns for crowd control."
Posted by phidipides at September 13, 2006 12:18 PMFried eyeballs?!?!?! Ouch!!!
Keep those consent forms in an extra safe place!
Where was I? Oh, yeah.

Posted by Pvt. Keepout at September 13, 2006 12:26 PMWhat do you all think? The sec. of Air Force should be a candidate for Keith Olberman's Worst Person Award.
Posted by cc at September 13, 2006 12:40 PMironically, the only ones immune from these crowd-control weapons will be those in tinfoil hats.

IRAQ
KATRINA
Over and Over and Over and Over.
they are seeing how martial law will play in the heartland
this is perhaps the most offensive thing yet, and appears to be designed to prepare us for the elections that won't happen
what else could save them from prison?
watch the timing of our troops returning from iraqistan
and then watch what happens to those precious few personal freedoms we have left.
the enemy is us
Posted by oldtree at September 13, 2006 01:25 PMLet's add SOCIAL SECURITY to IRAQ and KATRINA as winning issues for Democrats.
Posted by CLK at September 13, 2006 03:32 PMThe red staters probably aren't too worried - it's most likely for their friends & neighbors, relatives & co-workers who are so misguided as to be Democrats & the ones doing the protesting. They have the same attitude about the manipulation of the vote. All for it. It's not their votes being lost.
