Comments: Open Thread - And Then There Were Five

Here is another posting from early Friday morning touching on the same subject:

Why is Bush holding a sudden press conference today? Because he's desperate to avoid prosecution for War Crimes.

Is history repeating itself? It seems that the world is in a regressive mode sometimes, where the unthinkable becomes a reality.

What does "outrages on human dignity" mean?

Ask the folks in New Orleans and Biloxi. Ask Mr. Schiavo. Ask ---oh hell, the damn list is too long...

I don't watch Little Boots on TV anymore. In fact, I stopped watching his all-too-rare for a president press conferences years ago.

The guy simply makes me cringe; it's all in the dead eyes and faux-cornpone style of delivery designed to appeal to Joe Sixpack.

Bush makes me sick to my stomach and angry.

But back to Steve's point. There's no question Bush is a sociopath. My radar screams "avoid, avoid, avoid." He's not normal.

I sure hope someone (the military, perhaps?) is keeping him on a short leash. The thought of this lunatic having access to the nuclear button is scary.

Violations of the War Crimes Act?

Just add it to the list.....Ho hum, America, right?

Nero Jr: "We're AT WAR! AT WAR! Ya gotta violate some War Crimes Acts when you're AT WAR! FDR did it too! And that Truman guy!"

Americans, profoundly ignorant and anti-intellectual in most areas, and deliberately misinformed and misled as a result of rightist television media, can no longer distinguish national success from national failure.

What will the world think if the Republicans retain control of Congress in such circumstances? What does it matter what the world thinks at this point, I guess.

I'm not so sure that Snowe will cave. She's one of the Repubs who voted with the Dems on the Senate Intelligence Committee to release the committee's report to the public about a week or so ago.

She currently has the highest approval rating of any US senator.

What does "outrages on human dignity" mean?

Is it surprising that Bush would not know what constitutes an outrage on "human dignity"? Murder for him is not even consider, in his world, an outrage on "human dignity." Ask the Iraqis.

Here's how they are handling the immigration issue in some states. Good practice in raiding and rounding up people.

In Stillmore, Georgia, trailer parks lie abandoned. The poultry plant is scrambling to replace more than half its workforce. Business has dried up at stores where Mexican laborers once lined up to buy food, beer and cigarettes just weeks ago.

This Georgia community of about 1,000 people has become little more than a ghost town since Sept. 1, when federal agents began rounding up illegal immigrants.

The sweep has had the unintended effect of underscoring just how vital the illegal immigrants were to the local economy.

More than 120 illegal immigrants have been loaded onto buses bound for immigration courts in Atlanta, 189 miles away. Hundreds more fled Emanuel County. Residents say many scattered into the woods, camping out for days. They worry some are still hiding without food.

At least one child, born a U.S. citizen, was left behind by his Mexican parents. Two year old toddler's mother left her son with friends when the raids began and fled the state. The boy's father was deported to Mexico.

Why is it that only Bush doesn't understand the Geneva Convention's language? For over 50 years world movers and shakers have been able to interpret the provisions. Now Bush needs "clarity"?

Wlgriffi, I had that same thought. That's a question some Democrat should be asking. Terminology and clarification has not been an issue. Now Bush need to know what constitutes the act of torture and wants clarification? I know, let someone practice on him, and then let him decided what is and is not torture.

or which acts are against "human dignity."

Posted by Judith at September 16, 2006 08:27 AM

Let's put a pair of panties on Bush's head and make him wear them to the next press conference. Maybe then he will get the idea. Just a thought.

Judith while not a bad idea something worse should be done to the chimp...

Cave like wet toilet paper? You're probably right, but even after watching the repugs' cave after cave (most recently Specter the professional speelunker) I still hold out hope that, with strength in numbers, they'll hang together in an effort to salvage what's left of their party.

But Rove will probably swoop in with his J. Edgar Hoover (NSA) trumpcards.

There is a reasons why every Republican caves, more often than not. I am convinced that this Administration has something on every politician in Washington D.C., and I have thought that for a long time. Blackmail would certainly explain a lot of my questions and they are not above blackmailing people, especially those in their own Party. It's either blackmail, or threats. We have visited this before with Hoover.

The Powell Manifesto.

In America, money is power. The right wing think tanks and astroturf groups supporting America's ride to hell didn't appear overnight or by accident. This country is going into a crises for its very soul. In the end the power of plutocratic money will have to be destroyed or American democracy will be destroyed. It's that simple.

This all sounds a bit worse than a third rate buglary and subsequent converup. ELECT DEMOCRATS TO CONGRESS!

Posted by CLK at September 16, 2006 09:58 AM

While the Nitwit may seem to have lost his composure during the press conference, in actual fact his behavior was the result of a leaking colostomy bag. And his necessity for clarification is not suprising; he needs clarification when he is told not to pick his nose in public.
