While you may find the polls on Bush and Lamont/Lieberman encouraging, I am deeply depressed.
Bush's mild increase shows that the White House still has almost absolute control over the corporate press/media. When it comes to crunch time, late October, they will use it to hang onto both houses of the congress.
That Lamont is not leading Lieberman by ten points shows that the idea of Holy Joe running as an independent even after losing the primary, even after behaving like an idiot, and even after refusing to reverse what is a reportedly unpopular position (in CT) on Iraq, shows that at least half of Connecticutt voters don't care about any of this and they are inclined to re-elect Lieberman.
That is truly depressing.
Posted by James E. Powell at September 19, 2006 11:00 PMI get weary of seeing these polls quoted as if they actually mean something. It's an idoit's game. Up down and sideways -- tow points either way don't mean a thang. I don't even respond to telephone polls anymore--they're just another form of phone solicitation. And especially I hang up when I hear "a single, digitally-recorded, voice"........

Posted by JohnT at September 20, 2006 08:10 AMgee, if you listened to CNN or MSNBC you'd think Bush is up in the 60's again. Lots of clapping when he hit 44, not much said when he slides back to 40. Nobody dares mention how abysmal a low 40 rating for a 2nd term president really is, and how he's been under 50 for years now.
