Comments: Bush's Own NIE Gives Democrats The Fuel To Beat The GOP This Fall

Are you safer than you were 4 years ago?

But I am not sure it will make any difference. The republicans will control the media and the airwaves and they have control of the voting machines. We must have a papertrail for open elections and the candidates will have to sit on their hands until every vote is counted if we want to have open and fair elections.

I was going to comment, "If anyone reads it." But I've had a different thought. This is something the blogs ought to take the responsibility for pushing and pushing. It's not the kind of thing people just read. They need coaxing...

Dr. Frist presides over a menu of human torture.
Is this what doctors are trained to do?

Please be advised: Democrats will not be helped by running around talking about how unsafe we are.

They also need to appear confident that they can handle any threats that we will face.

The simple truth--that the foray into Iraq was not only a colossal blunder in its own right, but has also made things worse--needs to be pounded on.

But people need to be challenged--AND DIRECTLY--to rethink how much of a mistake it was to trust the
Republicans and Bush with our national security.

It needs to be something along the lines of: Republicans have this reputation for for being tough on security--but look at their record for the past six years. They didn't protect us from 9/11, they did a half-assed job in Afghanistan, and they went crazy in the head and invaded Iraq. These guys are absolutely lousy at national security and ANYONE ELSE could do a better job.

Then you have to point to some well-known Democrats who are tough--starting with Bill Clinton, Wes Clark, etc...

No wonder the attempts at revisionist history are reaching the boiling point, as the Rove machine tries to blame former President Clinton for Little Boots' myriad of woes.

We showed BinLaden how to fight and how to lead in the 1980s.
Our CIA operation.
In Afganistan.
To fight the Russians, to win the cold war, to keep the Russians away from "our" oil.
We won.
Or, did we?

How many BinLadens are we creating in Iraq?

How many BinLadens are we creating in Iraq?

I would ask, how many bin Ladens are we creating in Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Canada, and the USA?

The neocons orbiting Bush's tiny pinhead have done a splendid job of turning the Islamic world against us.

the failure is clear to see. Many of us have seen it for years. But many others have not due to the Media manipulation and flat out owerneship by the GOP. If you are told that the Bush War in Iraq has actually *increased terror cells*, found no WMD, killed thousands of US GI's and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqi's, squandered billions of US dollars and fostered hatered around the world. why, why, why does Bush's approval creep upward?? Media Control. The same Media Control that will declare the election day winners. Not a happy thought.

The NIE report also says that terrorist cells are self-replicating like crazy all over the world and doing so completely independent of Osama bin Laden. So hunting down bin Laden at this point is beside the point. Even if we were to find him and kill him, he would become the Che Guevera of Islamic Radicalism. Let him live out the rest of his days (if he hasn't already) hiding in caves, sleeping with an AK-47 for a pillow. Who cares? The terrorists will be with us in force until we change our Middle East policies, Osama or no Osama.

First, we have to let the Iraqis solve their own nightmare. I'm sure the majority of Iraqis would love for the US to butt out of their Civil War and I'm damned sure all of our Soldiers, Sailors and Marines would love to be home for the holidays.

As Bill Clinton so wisely insisted in his brilliant interview with Keith Olberman, The United States must now calmly and rationally revisit the root cause of the terrorist problem and that is the Palestinian issue. Of course we need to undo our unholy alliances with anti-democratic Arab regimes, too. No amount of bombs, bullets and spilled American blood is going to eliminate the terrorist threat until these core issues are resolved.

I'm still waiting for the Democrats to get some wind in their sails around the security issues, but they keep breaking my heart. You are right. This report is the ammunition they need to drive the point home: The terrorist threat is growing and everything George Bush has done and continues to do is making it worse.
