Comments: Source Of Foley Messages Was A Republican Staffer

I'm sure one of our trolls will be around momentarily to tell us that this "GOP staffer" doesn't really exist, or that s/he was blackmailed into doing it by the Velvet Mafia.

I caught it too, Steve.

It's another version of blame the victim.

The irony that after 6 years of facts being outspun by the RepSpeak, truthsayers being stomped under the feet of the righteous, that this one week in all that 6 years the truth is giving this story legs and the truth is coming from within the ranks of the R's. Maybe "Had Enough?" finally sunk in.

The funniest thing I read this morning is Hastert is blaming ABC News and George Soros for his woes!

ABC News and George Soros? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The GOP leadership has finally jumped the shark.

Posted by Christopher at October 5, 2006 08:13 AM

If it was a republican who blew the whistle, the next talking points that come out will be that democrats knew all along too and didn't say or do anything.

Posted by CG at October 5, 2006 08:15 AM

You people are missing the key points in all this.
1. There are a lot more gays in key positions in D.C. than most americans are aware of.
2. Republicans play to the homophobic views of their constiuents and yet are aware of and even employ talented gays in their own staffs.
3. This scandal is laying bare the hypocrasy between GOP public homophobia and private congeniality with professional gays in in the nation's capital.
4. Awareness of this double standard is not good for overall GOP credibity on many levels and many issues.

Paging Tobes. Mr. Petzold please come to a white paging comment thread.

What was that you were saying about the NSA, privacy and spying a couple of days ago?

BTW thanks for keeping a perfect record and refusing to answer any questions that I ask of you.

But again, in typical fashion, the Republicans distract from the real story and play ... the Blame Game!! gasp! horrors!

It's exactly the kind of justification/rationalization you'd expect from, say, Jr High aged kids. Hang 'em high, I say!

NCR: STOP with the gay issue crap. This is not a gay issue scandal in any way, shape or form. This is a story about a pedophile who happened to be a man of great power housed in the Congress of the United States who enjoyed the benefits of being shielded by his own leadership in order to carry out acts abhorent to all Americans.

Posted by mainsailset at October 5, 2006 08:58 AM

NorCal,

No we aren't. Just because we don't constantly state the obvious, doesn't mean that it isn't lost on us.

D.C. Is simply a money/marketing/power machine. Only a handful really give a crap about 'murikans and those have to fight constantly not to abrogate any power they have to the corporate/money machine.

Posted by Simp at October 5, 2006 09:02 AM

Mainsailset,

You are still missing the point. The point is not the gay aspect of this scandal but that the GOP have bared their own hypocrisy on this issue to their own constituents. It is the moment when Dorothy can see the little man behind the curtain for the rightwing wingnuts. Their precious Republican homophobes rub elbows with those hated and feared gay people. The outing of this fact is helping the GOP to implode. The hard right if horrified enough will stay home and pout rather than vote for Republicans who hire and work with gay staff members.

Posted by NorCalRINO at October 5, 2006 09:42 AM

"As I said yesterday, Democrats need to frame the Foley cover-up in a larger narrative calling for Democratic control of Congress so that more time is spent on fighting terror effectively, fixing problems here at home, and making Congress and the White House responsive and accountable to Main Street, rather than Wall Street and maintaining GOP power." (Steve Soto, today)

This is what I am talking about. Hometown, homophobic Republicans are being repulsed in droves over their GOP darlings' big coverup. This is the moment to pry control of congress away from the GOP as they implode! The more you remind ordinary rank and file Republicans that their boys have daily dealings with Gay Republicans, the more of them that will stay home and not vote! It's time to invest in Morton salt and go salt some GOP slugs!

Posted by NorCalRINO at October 5, 2006 10:35 AM

Simp, Toby made an appearence on eRiposte's thread, "Predatorgate: FBI covering up for the GOP?"

Got shot down pretty quick though!

Goddammit. The Repukes are going to continue to spin this that gay = pedophile.

This is an absolute fallacy, there is absolutely no empirical evidence that homosexuals are more likely to be pedophiles. This lie must not be allowed to be repeated over and over again.

This is not about Foley being gay. This is about Foley abusing his power and using a position of power to control children sexually. This must be repeated.

This is not about the Democrats either. The Pukes continue to repeat these lies as well. And the crap about this being some Dem attack is ludicrous.

This is a GOP scandal.

A Republican used a position of power to prey upon children. The Republican leadership covered this up in order to maintain power.

Period. End of story.

GOP = man/boy sex

Posted by T2 at October 5, 2006 11:48 AM

This is not about Foley being gay. This is about Foley abusing his power and using a position of power to control children sexually.

Foley is a sexual predator. Simple and clear. I think enough people have seen those episodes of 20/20 to understand what an online sexual predator is and does.

Remember when it was *ever so important* that Janet Reno comply with every Rethug witch-hunt to prove the ever-so-important principle that the Attorney General was independent of the executive?
Now Rethugs demand, and everyone expects, that Abu Gonzales will be little more than Bush's personal attorney, a lickspittle watercarrier apparatchik hack and blocker of any investigations that might damage The Party.
