Comments: Bush Regime: More Authoritarian Thinking

I'm confused by Woodward.

He's written 2 previous books about Little Boots that were essentially love sonnets. All full of praise and even suggesting Bush is rising to the level of Churchill.

Now, all of a sudden, Woodard does an about face and takes it all back?

Very strange.

Maybe he remembered that he is a journalist and not an arm of the Propaganda Department of this WH.

I think Woodward just put his finger in the wind to feel which way the political wind is blowing.

He doesn't want to be on the outside after the midterms.

This administration is truly on the path to fascism. They must be disarmed in November and completely eliminated in 2008.

Christopher, Al Franken was discussing this question, and it was sorta determined that in the previous books, Woodward made Bush look good even as he was criticizing others. All Bush cared about was how he was portrayed. Bush wasn't interviewed directly for this one, and it's become clear that his admin won't pretend to make him look good, so now Woodward is a traitor.

what I keep on wondering, hasn't this idiot said enough to cause his arrest for treason, war crimes and such?

where I feel deeply about the Amish and their ability to forgive, remember too that they use no tools of war, and have a right to talk about peace and love. rummy does not, for he does not understand the concepts

iamcoyote,

Did you happen to catch Woodward this morning on Pumpkinhead's show?

He claimed the Cheney quotes that Henry Kissinger is advising the administration -- meeting with Cheney once a week and Little Boots every 3 months are "direct quotes."

Cheney even called Woodward on the phone the day the book came out and chewed him out for publishing them, called the book "bullshit" and hungup on him.

Woodward is walking on eggshells messing around with these neoconservatives.

This is the problem with Rumsfeld - he's certainly right that the operations of government need to be reformed. He knows that change is necessary for the well-being and survival of the institutions.

But he's got this really fucked up warped idea of what that change needs to look like. He's still pushing the DoD to decrease overall troop levels and shell out more for high-tech weapons systems. He belives that the best defense against gov't incompetence is complaining that it won't reform itself. And that we're losing in the war on terror because our Western populations won't shut up and sit down and media won't self-censor its reporting on the war.

This is why Rumsfeld is dangerous. He exemplifies the gross misunderstanding of government's mission that many of the former CEO's now working in the Bush White House exhibit.

Yes, I'm thankful on the information that he is now providing.

However, do you actually think that these are "new" revelations for him?

He sees the writing on the wall, the tide has turned and he now wants to make sure that he is the first in line af the grand opening of the newly renovated "Inside-the-Beltway Kool Kidz" buffet.

In some ways he is worse than the people directly responsible. He abdicated his responsibility, his reputation and his dignity by enabling these bastards.

If I ran into him in the street today, I would walk up shake his hand and say "Thank you Mr. Woodward. Its far past time when we expose these fools." Then I would promptly punch him in the face. "Why in the hell didn't you speak up earlier? You've got blood on your hands you prick. Hope you can live with that."

Then if he comes out and sez that it was really, just some brilliant strategy to grant him access so he could write this book, I will say yeah riiiiiight. Then punch him again.

Yes, I'm pissed. We have predicted nearly every result of this administration's folleys, yet we are still labeled as looney.

I want my god damned country back. I'm tired of being angry and embarrassed. I'm tired of the occasional thought of immigrating from my home so that I can raise my boys in a reasonable society. I'm tired of the snow job by the Media enabling these assholes.

Woodward is still part of that, even if he is looking at his watch and saying "Damn, its gettin' kinda late guys, I think I need to head home."

Screw you Bob, I'm not quite ready to join hands and break bread with you again. You've still got a lot of 'splainin' to do.

"Woodward is walking on eggshells messing around with these neoconservatives."

Christopher, he might end up like Putin's critic, who was just found murdered.

Christopher, I didn't watch the morning shows, I think they replay Press the Meat later today. I think Woodward's a smarmy jerk looking for relevence in a world that's passed him by. I'm not trying to defend him, just relating what I've heard about his series of books.

I'm more with Simp, actually; Bobby had the access, and had to know what was really going on behind the scenes, yet he still minces around trying to pretend he's just being thorough and fair. I'll take what new revelations he has to share, but I certainly won't lionize him for taking so long to bring them out.

Judith, I'll bet the Decider already wishes he had that power!

Posted by iamcoyote at October 8, 2006 08:44 AM

This pResident will not change the course of this War, because it would mean admitting a mistake. So, let thousands of people die so he can look good. Mr. pResident, there is a special place just waiting for you in hell.

"Judith, I'll bet the Decider already wishes he had that power!"

Iamcoyote, he aleady does have that power. Send them to Gitmo, torture them and then kill them or keep them forever in limbo.

Simp, he can join the Powell party.

Woodward is pretty damned smarmy. At this point I think he'd write anything for a lucrative contract.

Christopher, bingo!
