Steve, I am English, and would happily give my frontal cortex for President Bush. I realize that due to my plane crash in '91 (got a medal!)I'm no longer a registered voter and drool occasionally, but Karl said 'let me take care of it'. Gawd, he's a nice man.

New York Daily News - http://www.nydailynews.com
The Bush administration plans to shut down a highly successful Iraqi police academy in Jordan even as security in Iraq worsens, the Daily News has learned.
The Jordan International Police Training Center near Amman will stop training Iraqi police recruits this year, having already graduated 40,000 cops from its eight-week course since 2004, U.S. officials confirmed.
"The word we have is that JIPTC completes its mission on Dec. 31, and we are proceeding on that basis," said academy spokesman Iver Peterson.
President Bush has said American troops can come home from Iraq when Iraqi forces can secure their own country.
The $120 million Jordan academy is safe and has police trainers from 15 nations. It graduates a staggering 1,800 Iraqi cops and border guards each month. Fewer than 4% have washed out.
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) expressed shock when told by The News that the facility will soon close.
Bill Moyers had another thought provoking story, (Religion and the Environment), about the Evangelical Christians stance on global warming. Absolutely excellent. According to many of this faith (if that is what you want to call it), it is God who causes global warming, just as it was God who controlled Katrina.
Sometimes I am slow on the uptake, but it is apparent that Scout is an Evangelical which explains his posts here on TLC. Scout seems to believe that God controls all, and there is no such thing as free will, which he has stated more than once. I am beginning to understand why some GOPers accept no responsibility for anything, believing that they are merely puppets of a horrible, revengful and hateful God. These people take God and turn Him upside down. Now I know for a fact that the Evangelical Movement is evil.
If you get a chance to watch this story by Moyers, don't miss it.

As my 84 year old Mother always said: "It's not what they say, it's what they do."
Now I am reading reports that the press also knew about Foley for years, and didn't report it. Let me see, now who would know this information, and not report it? Can't be the same press who reported every sordid detail of Clinton's escapade, could it? You know, the liberal press.
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2006 03:18 AMWhat the hell am I doing up?
By-the-way TIKI AL. In response to an earlier post by you about a Playboy Club opening up in Vegas, I worked at a Playboy Club. No thanks.
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2006 03:21 AMYeah, pretty soon Bush will have to put on an uniform, and along with Barney and Laura, fight the War by themselves. Seems the Brits are waking up and want their 8,000 troops home. Have saner minds appraised the situation, and said enough?
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2006 04:08 AMLast night in St. Louis, during a $1,000 a plate or $10,000 a plate and a photo with Bush, one lone woman stood up during Bush's speech to dinner guest and screamed "Out of Iraq now. What are you doing to us. Your killing us. Please." Of course she was escorted out. I can't figure out how she got admittance in the first place.
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2006 04:31 AMJudith, I saw about 5 minutes of that Bill Moyers show. A minister wanted to preach about the environment (after he thought and prayed really hard about whether he should) and was very careful to put together Bible verses supporting what he said so that his congregation would believe him. It can't just be that being good to the environment is simply the right and logical thing to do. No, it must come directly from the Bible or it doesn't count.
Posted by CG at October 13, 2006 05:07 AMCG, as a Christian, I must admit that I sat there with my mouth wide opened in disbelief. These people are not only dangerous, but totally insane. They have taken every principal the Bible is built upon, and turned it upside down and inside out. While I knew they were wacko, the interview you mentioned was down right scary. These people are not mislead. These people are down right evil. God causes polution?????? WTF! Polution is good in the name of capitalism???????? God save us from these people of the Dark.
Posted by Judith at October 13, 2006 05:41 AMDear Judith:
I too, have worked at a Playboy Club, as a guest of an old friend, Shannon Tweed. This was no small task, as I'm male. I don't have the figure for it, and I found out that punching Mattie the doorman is not good. Well, live and learn.
Posted by tempus at October 13, 2006 06:31 AMSomebody couldn't sleep, I'm guessing!
Saw some of that show too, Moyers is really devastating in his work, no histrionics, rah rah pr bamboozablement, just lays it out, and lets the people expose the stupidity or insanity or criminality by their deeds and words.
Here's an article just popped up this morning, for instance, putting the lie to Bush's "we're spreading democracy" bs. U.S. seen retreating from democracy push, pretty well tells that story, huh?
Well, off to work, see ya all later, can't wait for the post 5:00pm news, during baseball playoffs no less, today!
Posted by Duckman GR at October 13, 2006 06:59 AMDear Duckman:
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has decreed that an assembly of more than sixty people is forbidden, with the exception of a registered Christian church. Conviction of said crime is punishable by flogging, beating and waterboarding at an undisclosed location. Tread carefully, my friend!
Posted by tempus at October 13, 2006 07:42 AMWell, the inevitable has occurred.
Apparently, Air America radio has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Frankly, I'm surprised they survived as long as they did. A noble idea I'm sure but it always seemed doomed to me. Liberals aren't really the types who need chattering heads bleating at them 24/7 over the radio.
It's hard to distill the truth down into talk radio type soundbites. Reality is to complicated for that. Of course that's why rightwing radio is so successful.
Posted by snark at October 13, 2006 07:56 AMsnark, I enjoy being bleated at! When I feel that rancid, bilious feeling in my stomach, five minutes of Rush will produce an instant voluminous discharge of my esophagus. All better!

Hmmmm. I get disparate results from Rush the Viagra inflated Lush. He is more like a huge dose of psyllium fiber for me. Talk about a colon cleansing!

Posted by Anjha at October 13, 2006 09:09 AMHow many drunks do we have running our government?
Dunno, how many cabinet members are there?
Posted by tempus at October 13, 2006 09:20 AMWell, are we looking for the number of drunks, or the number of alcoholics?
Drunk means one is still slobberingly under the influence - and Bush qualifies no matter how damn long he's benn "sober" until he can demostrate a press confrence without smirking, stuttering, and mispronouncing his words.
I've got no problems with alcoholics, it's the drunks I worry about.
How many drunks do we have running our government?
Beyond the Chief Executive?
Interesting, responsibility to more than just the bottom line increases the bottom line.
Excellent link, Anjha! Democrats outperform republi-cons in all but one key category: Death and Destruction. The republi-cons have the lead in this category.
Posted by phidipides at October 13, 2006 09:41 AMThere is lot of talk in media about how the religious right is fed up with Republicans and may not vote for them. A book by Steve Kuo which is discussed daily by Olberman says that Rove called these people "Nuts".
I never thought I will agree with Rove but I do about these people. They have consistantly ignored the most important issues that need to be resolved for betterment of our country and people and concentrated on trivial issues like gay marriage, Abortion, prayers in school etc and voted for Republicans.
I think they will vote again for Republicans because they think Democrats are such evil doers. I predict Republicans winning both houses again and in 2008 the presidency by beating Hillary. Time to move to Canada or Europe? They do have seperation of Church and State as our constitution requires. We are sliding back into middle ages.
Posted by suresh at October 13, 2006 09:52 AMIt is obvious with the amount of wrong-doers seeking rehab that our only hope is to bring back prohibition before it is too late.
Deamon rum, I tells ya, DEAMON RUM!!! Ahrrrrr!

''We'll do everything we can to prevent an attack, but if the terrorists succeed in launching an attack, we'll be ready to respond,'' Bush said.
In other words, "We know nothing we're going to do can stop the terrorists, but we'll kill somebody to avenge the act - even if we have to kill someone who had nothing to do with it!

Today:
PORT ST. LUCIE, Florida (CNN) -- Four people, a man and a woman who was clutching two children, were found shot to death Friday on an isolated stretch of Florida's Turnpike, police said.
Yesterday:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Police say a 9-year-old boy lived like a prisoner in his home off a rural, private road: Locked in his bedroom for much of three years, he did not attend school, had no friends and was watched by his father on surveillance cameras that tracked his every move.
