[Editor: ignore=off]No, it's the NATO(Afghanistan) members politicians using the Iraq pullout timeline to get into office(Jack Layton NDP Canada/Shays).
Posted by Malicacid at October 29, 2006 11:32 AMWHt? The Iraqi leaders have the audacity to use a situation to gain what they percieve as an advantege? Didn't all of these brillinat neocons pay attention when their mentor Dr. Kissinger explained the concept of realpolitik.

God damn-it! Now even the Iraqis are engaging in diplomacy. That's the one thing...okay, one of many things...that is completely over the Mad King's, idiot son of George, head. The Mad King needs to send troops to that country and remove the leadersh....never mind.
Let me see: When Osama was in Afghanistan the Mad King went to Iraq. With Maliki creating problems in Iraq, I'm thinking Eritrea had better be on guard. Maybe the Mad King could attack some Pygmies in Africa? No doubt they would kick his ass. He better go with Eritrea or bomb an orphanage. That'll do.
Posted by phidipides at October 29, 2006 12:45 PMThe analysis so far seems to be that the Iraqi "government" wants the US troops to continue hanging around, doing whatever they're doing to continue the existence of the now discredited Maliki "team". Thus, despite the overwhelming sentiment of the various Iraqi communities/sects that wants Uncle Sam out, Maliki supposedly wants the occupation to continue indefinitely. This is not a system in equilibrium.
So it's interesting to hear these new Maliki claims that the Iraq army is ready and rarin' to go as far as he's concerned, and he wants to be running it on his own very soon. A real Iraqi politician, at some point, is going to start moving toward the position of most of the Iraqi people: "Uncle Crony, Go Home. And leave all that oil you smeared all over yourself right here, thank you."
So is Maliki fixin' to be the one who delivers the coup de grace to our permanent bases and endless refinements of "victory"? Why shouldn't he be? He may think he's got as good a chance as any other national figure to start the endgame.
It's the will of the people, and if he thinks the Iraq army is as ready as we're ever going to train and equip it to be, why wouldn't he start agitating for withdrawal and galvanizing all the Iraqi people behind this position? Wouldn't that be a route to political distinction and popularity in Iraq?
Driving out hated occupiers is the kind of thing that can unite a people. Let's not be so sure Maliki thinks he can't survive for long without the Big Oil security forces and the malignant hand of Deadeye Dick.
