Comments: Mid-Morning Update

Dem response should be; "We'll show you ours when you show us yours."

Yep, I'd watch Cronkite do the news, a documentary, or host a roundtable discussion. I used to be a CBS news fan until they fired Dan Rather. I watched Katie Couric for a few nights out of curiosity(what a joke). Maybe MSNBC could put Cronkite on just before Olbermann.

Posted by MarvToler at November 3, 2006 11:05 AM

Bush has resorted to challenging Democrats to say what their plan is for Iraq.

Dem response:

The president should have been asking his cabinet members that question before he ordered the invasion in 2003.

Posted by snark at November 3, 2006 11:07 AM

Short, sweet, and timely response, snark.

GO DEMS! NOT ONLY UNCLE SAM, BUT THE ENTIRE WORLD NEEDS YOU!

Walter si, Katie, no!

Posted by Duckman GR at November 3, 2006 11:17 AM

Walter si, Katie, no!

And we now have our excuse for why the gas prices will rise as if by magic after the election, Nigerian bombers!!

Surprised anyone?

Peddling snake oil and getting drunk on the koolaid.

Air America played a priceless audio clip of the Mofo from Midland today. I noticed when he's in trouble, his voice goes up a half an octave, and he lays on an extra thick layer of cornpone.

What a moron.

Posted by Christopher at November 3, 2006 11:26 AM

ROFLMAO! I just noticed Talent is engaging in some ball grabbing in that picture.

Too funny.

Posted by Christopher at November 3, 2006 11:30 AM

So all this time Nero's been awaitin' for OUR plan?

Who knew? Well, whatever our plan is, it will beat the pants off Bushco's "Hunker Down and Die" plan.

Speaking of plans, let's go back to those days after 9/11, nation united, all the world behind us, Iran included! The Democratic "plan" was to build up the nation's defenses, capture Osama at Tora Bora by deploying the 10th Mountain division and additional US infantry, stay overwhelmingly engaged in Afghanistan nation building, and force Israel back to the table to finally accept the two state solution and undercut the endless Palestinian conflict.

Oh, and don't invade Iraq.

But Republicans had to blindly follow the divisive, Supreme Court appointed, electoral college president Cheney/Bush and refuse to forge a bipartisan foreign policy.

The disaster is now history. Want a bipartisan foreign policy? Then give the other party some political power, and something might change. Otherwise, forget it---more of the same, except worse. It's up to you.

now that Pastor Ted, leader of some 30 million Right-WIng Nuts, has admitted to purchasing a highly illegal drug, a crime that thousands are currently service prison time for, and for consorting with an admitted gay prostitute, the evangelical Rove base my not want to show their face on Nov.7. Just think of what they've had to suck on for the last month: Foley, where the GOP heirarchy of the House willfully hid a teen predator for pure politics, and now a major leader revealed to be, at the least, a felon drug possessor, and probably a John also. Yeah, great bunch of fellows, that Evangelical GOP. Oh yeah, did I mention that Pastor Ted is one of President Bush's most trusted spiritual advisors? "hey Ted, know anywhere I can get some speed, this war is hard work?"

Posted by T2 at November 3, 2006 12:02 PM

I thought Bush was the command and Cheif! Shouldn't he have a plan? Isn't he the decider?

Posted by goose1 at November 3, 2006 12:18 PM

I've got a thousand bucks that says Jim Talent is a closeted homosexual.

Posted by God Of War at November 3, 2006 12:23 PM

I don't like Bush, but i understand his point. There is nothing worse than a back seat driver that does not even have a license. If your going to constintly tell someone they are doing it wrong than you better know how to do it right. Otherwise you need to shut up. Democrats have a HUGH problem in this department.

Posted by Creeply at November 3, 2006 12:27 PM

walter doesn't need music, flashy graphics, stunning backgrounds, multiple cameras or a lot of people on his "team" to do his job very well.
Of course I would watch.
But, of course, the network won't because of the reasons listed above

Posted by oldtree at November 3, 2006 12:30 PM

Creeply, we'll see how big a problem they have on Tuesday.

Posted by Steve Soto at November 3, 2006 12:30 PM

First ACORN in Mo, now in Memphis...

12 voter smartcards have gone missing from one Shelby County, TN early vote location!

The cards are used to activate electronic voting machines.

The location at the center of the controversy is Bishop Byrne High School on E. Shelby Drive in Memphis.

Whose campaign is centered out of Memphis? Congressman Ford.

Democrats just can't win legit anymore? They just have to cheat.

Posted by peter at November 3, 2006 12:37 PM

Vote early and vote often!

I just noticed Talent is engaging in some ball grabbing in that picture.

Not even pocket pool! Hilarious!

Posted by Seven of Six at November 3, 2006 12:40 PM

Seems I heard that before. Hmm..when was that? Oh yes in 2004 oh no wait that was 2000. Maybe it will be different this time right Steve. Maybe the Dems will win for once and I won't have to hear the babies crying over how the voting machines were rigged and the election was stolen. Somehow I know I'm going to wake up to the same screaming babies.

Posted by Creeply at November 3, 2006 12:44 PM

If your going to constintly tell someone they are doing it wrong than you better know how to do it right. Otherwise you need to shut up.

Here's a better analogy.

You own a taxi fleet. One of your drivers consistantly crashes the taxi he drives for you. What do you do? Let him keep driving...and crashing? Or fire him and hire a new driver?

A license to drive is worthless if the bully you carpool with never even lets you get in the front seat.

Posted by snark at November 3, 2006 12:53 PM

Creeply sounds awfully concerned there.

Posted by Duckman GR at November 3, 2006 01:01 PM

Creepy's gonna be hearing a lot of whiney ass titty babies crying from the right if the dems win, won't he? And he doesn't seem to have a problem with Bush whining about not having a plan for Iraq.

Posted by iamcoyote at November 3, 2006 01:03 PM

....very telling piece, Steve....the Haggard dung heap is going to make Sunday a test for Jerry (I ate the whole thing) Falwell et al...you know that millions of disillusioned fiscal conservatives have gobs of shit to heap onto their elected officials on Tuesday....I don't believe the polls for one second...this is going to be a fu*king drubbing of the highest order...these lying f**ks are getting their come-up-ance and rightly so...let the games begin....and weeply creeply....fuck you too!

Posted by Goyo at November 3, 2006 01:08 PM

Creepy is like every other Republican. Their ignoring the polls. It's just not the same when one party has a consistant 15-20 point lead nationwide. When the numbers are within the margin of error, by defination they behaive more unpredictibly. The Democrats are going to gain seats on tuesday, the question is will "red seats" in northeastern and midwestern states flip en masse of sporadically.

It could be truely historical from a regional point of view. Scince the end of WWII the regional loyalties to the parties in America has been in transition from the old civil war pattern. In other words, back in 1994 a lot of the GOP pick up was from the retirement/defeat of southern Democrats. The north has not had a corresponding flip yet. If it comes tuesday, the Democrats could pick up 40 house seats rather than 20. If you see a 40 seat house flip, the Senate goes with it.

Watch Kentucky and Indiana tuesday night. The polls close early, at 6.30 in the east, 3.30 in the west, in those states. The Democrats can gain three seats in both states, if they take all six, we're looking at 40 nationwide. They'll give us a good indication early.

Bush: "If they say they want to win the war on terror, but call for America to pull out of what al Qaeda says is the central front in this war, ask them this question: 'What's your plan?'

Dems: "First, you put an adult in charge."

Posted by gtash at November 3, 2006 01:33 PM

When Dennis Kucinich was asked what the democrats plan was today on MSNBC, he said "To tell the TRUTH to the American people for a change". I thought that was very effective.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 3, 2006 01:35 PM

I like Dennis' answer better.

Posted by gtash at November 3, 2006 01:36 PM

There is nothing worse than a back seat driver that does not even have a license.

Yes, there is: a bunch of old white guys who never saw combat running a war.

Posted by ann at November 3, 2006 01:38 PM

a bunch of old white guys who never saw combat running a war.

A bunch of old, seriously Christian, white guys who never saw combat running a war.

BTW Ann, muck was over at L&L praising the latest economic reports!

Posted by Seven of Six at November 3, 2006 01:48 PM

Most people, when they hear W speak, want to scratch their heads (Hey, in a way maybe that's what Talent's doing).

Posted by redstater at November 3, 2006 01:57 PM

BTW Ann, muck was over at L&L praising the latest economic reports1

I saw that...the boy desperately needs to get a life.

Posted by ann at November 3, 2006 02:00 PM

7: Rove, according to his biographer, is an agnostic playing the "idiots" (evangelicals) for all they are worth.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 3, 2006 02:16 PM

"To tell the TRUTH to the American people for a change"

You know TIKI, I would just settle for "a change"! That's all I want. CHANGE!!

Posted by Seven of Six at November 3, 2006 02:17 PM

Yeah, ann, I was gonna delete, but we thought a mercy-post was the way to go. Poor mucky, stooping to post on our depraved site. *smirk*

Posted by iamcoyote at November 3, 2006 02:18 PM

Maybe creeply just knows enough not to have too much faith in the polls. Republicans learned that in the last two elections. You people obviously did not. Instead you blame it on rigged voting machines. I'm sure there will be a discussion going on with all the excuses coming out. I can just hear it know. The election was rigged because it didn't turn out like the Liberal left polls said it should. You guys never learn. LOL :)

Posted by Creeply at November 3, 2006 02:39 PM

You guys never learn. LOL :)

And if you retain your seats creeply; you'll "never learn" when gas prices go back up, bu$h declares martial law, and we continue to get our ass kicked in Iraq and soldiers continue to die needlessly!
Real fucking funny, shitbrain!

Posted by Seven of Six at November 3, 2006 02:50 PM

Creeply, what liberal left polls are you talking about? So now the polls are liberal too?

Posted by Steve Soto at November 3, 2006 03:19 PM

Maybe creeply just knows enough not to have too much faith in the polls.

Posted by Creeply at November 3, 2006 02:39 PM

Notice that Creeply refers to himself in the third person. Now that is creepy!

Posted by herbal tee at November 3, 2006 03:27 PM

Please lighten up on creepfuk. When you are a desperate druggy, cleaning windshields on the offramps armed only with a Windex bottle filled with urine and a snotrag, and someone from the RNC pulls up in a Benz and offers you a "job" clogging blogs until the election is over, it is not an easy transition.

He\she\it is shaking violently from a combination of working conditions in the cold damp Whitehouse basement and the effects of drug withdrawel, and it is difficult to hit the keys accurately, hence the mistakes.

My concern is that they will disgard he\she\it in a humane Christain manner after the election.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 3, 2006 03:36 PM

"ROFLMAO! I just noticed Talent is engaging in some ball grabbing in that picture."

Christopher, LOL. He better grab his balls, because McCaskill is about to render them useless. She has run as many ads as he has, and she just ran a new one tonight, with the theme of Reagan's Morning in America. It was great!

By-the-way, I hate men with weak mouths.

Posted by Judith at November 3, 2006 05:04 PM

I've got a thousand bucks that says Jim Talent is a closeted homosexual.

GOW, I have thought that for quite sometime.

Posted by Judith at November 3, 2006 05:09 PM

On Cronkite. I used to be a news volunteer reporter for both Pacifica and KPFA. We took seriously how to write for radio and the WWII reporting of both Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow was used as a model. Somewhere there's a how-to-write-for-radio manual Susan Stamberg and Larry Josephson produced for NPR. It has cuts of Cronkite's war reporting and it's beautiful.

During Vietnam, he was Mr. Conventional Wisdom, and I thought of Cronkite the way I thought of Frank Sinatra or Jimmy Stewart. But when as a reporter I listened to how he wrote -- how straight forward and clear -- I loved him

I guess this means I'd certainly rather listen to Cronkite any day than any of the stupid talking heads up there now.
