It is quite easy to dismiss the "minute" death of a few Americans because not one of these MOFO have their children's lives on the line.
Media mogul Rupert Murdoch said on Monday he had no regrets about supporting the US-led invasion of Iraq and argued that the US death toll in the conflict was "minute" from a historical perspective.
Posted by Judith at November 7, 2006 02:08 AMGoodmorning all. Happy Election Day! Vote early and take back what is rightfully ours, America.
Thought you would like a little laugh this morning. Seems dirty tricks are only the right of the GOP.
Vanity Fair has rushed to publish a few sound bites from a lengthy discussion with David Rose. Concerned that anything I might say could be used to influence the public debate on Iraq just prior to Tuesday's election, I had been promised that my remarks would not be published before the election.
I should have known better than to trust the editors at Vanity Fair who lied to me and to others who spoke with Mr. Rose. Moreover, in condensing and characterizing my views for their own partisan political purposes, they have distorted my opinion about the situation in Iraq and what I believe to be in the best interest of our country.
OH, BOO HOO!
I forgot the most important piece of the story, the interview was with none other than Richard Perle.
Posted by Judith at November 7, 2006 02:33 AMThe following is from Hullabaloo. I hope Antifa doesn't mind me posting it here. His/her words are uplifting and hopeful.
The polls open on the East Coast three hours from now. It's a fairly full moon on a silent, Southern night here. A couple of the hounds are out in the back acreage, chasing some furry foe back to its last, best hole.
This shining night feels pregnant. It feels immense, and aware. I can almost hear the surf breaking on the Carolina and the California shorelines both.
It's finally here. The Republicans have finally, finally done it. They've awakened a sleeping giant, and it is coming after them soon after sunrise.
Like the Lilliputians, they will do their best to tie it down, today and in the days to come. They will try.
But the giant is wroth, and will search them out in their ratholes and cellars and palaces and oval shaped dens of delusional thinking.
The hounds are out already, and the sun is racing westward across the sea.
This is the first day of a war.

The Night Before Midterms
'Twas the night before mid-terms
And all through the House
Speaker Hastert was ranting
The filthy old louse
"Tomorrow they choose, and the future is clear.
We'll be handed our asses by the voters this year"
"Coach" Hastert was rattled, his confidence lost
For Nancy Pelosi would soon be his boss!
And Bill Frist with his scalpel, and a VERY scared cat
Wondered why all the public thought him such an asshat.
An irate America arose with such clatter
That even Chris Matthews gave up his weak blather!
Away to the polls we all flew like a flash,
And showed Dub the meaning of a voter backlash
The results were disputed by spinmeister Snow
But America just said "the bastards must go!"
When who should to my wondering eyes should appear
But a feisty Jack Murtha with a case of cold beer.
Wes Clark on his left flank, Charlie Rangle his right,
I knew in a moment, it would be a long night!
Their losses now certain, our future so bright...
It's time to pay up KKKKarl, starting next Tuesday night
Gone Chafee, Santorum, Jim Talent and Burns...
Plus Kyle and Dewine, 'cause America learns
Gone Hayworth and Northrup and Christopher Shays.
they'll all lose their house seats in a matter of days!
And Nancy and Harry, they'll go straight to their work
Of fighting George Dubya, the pustular jerk!
Bush, laying a finger upside of his nose
Took a huge snort of........well, you know how it goes...
Bush sprang to Dick Cheney, when "Darth" gave Dub a whistle
As the Democrats swamped them both like a "nucular" missile!
And I heard Cheney growl as Bush cringed at his side
"Be prepared you dumb asshole for a real nasty ride....."
Also, from Hullabaloo

My mom will vote for McNerney in few hours, and then she will go to work at a Tracy tomato packing company. My mom is an immigrant worker who feels attacked by the gop racist anti-Mexican politics. She labors tirelessly to make sure food reaches our supermarkets. Too bad for the gop, she is now US citizen as a result of the 1986 amnesty act. She uses her hands and eyes to determine which tomotoes are set aside for human consumption from those only good enough for cattle feed. Today, she will use her hands and eyes to select between a candidate that offers us a future full of hope and dignity from one that moves votes based on fear, hatred and greed. Now it our turn to do our part! GOTV!
Posted by jncamane at November 7, 2006 02:59 AMWhat happens to Schumer, Dean, Reid, and Pelosi if by the end of the day, Democrats see no change in the makeup of the senate? Open the day with 55-44-1 and finish the day with 55-43-2. How much flak do they get? How much flak do y'all get from such an outcome?
The Democracy Corps. poll yesterday was just bad for y'all and your lack of message. I'm surprised they published it. what happens to Emmanuel, Dean, and Pelosi if you gain less than 15 House seats? What is their responsibility? Yours? All this bad news this year. All the bad news coming for the last several years and W and Rove are still doing their thing. Republicans are still controlling the message in DC. Have y'all failed? Have the Democrats elected failed?

Posted by peter at November 7, 2006 03:43 AMIMPORTANT INFORMATION
If you are chosing to vote via paper ballot, take your ballot and a black pen and fill in the oval anywhere you want to do it in the voting place. You do not have to sit at a table that is set-up to fill out the ballot. That way there is no standing in a line waiting.

Posted by idiosynchronic at November 7, 2006 04:56 AMAn advice for 2008 and further:
Use guerilla voting tactics!
Register as a republican, vote for a GOP-Loser in the primary, but vote dem in the elections.
Voters in GOP-unpopular minority areas should do that to keep their voting right safe from voting suppression measures. If the GOP thinks you’re gonna vote for them, they most likely won’t touch your voting rights.
All the bad news coming for the last several years and W and Rove are still doing their thing.
Oh, I know, let's see, there was Abramoff, Ney, Cunningham, Scooter Libby, Claude Allen, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard. Oh, and Enron! You're right, it's amazing that there are any Republicans left at all who aren't under indictment or in prison.
Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 05:05 AMWell, I was there when the poll opened, and two men were fussing with the Diebold equipment. They appeared to be fixing three of the four, or testing, I don't know which. Then two officals came in with the police, engaged in conversation, then left. One would think that the machines would have been ready to go at 6:00, but they weren't. The first man to vote complained that the machine aborted his vote. I can tell you that more people were chosing paper ballots than those who were chosing Diebold. So much for trust in voting.
At 6:00, voter turn-out was big. When I arrived we had 4 Diebold machines, and one 4' x 8' table with four chairs. That was all they had supplied for one of the biggest elections and one with projections of voter turn-out being huge. Never has so little been provided to accommodate so many voters. How much does it take to set-up portable tables and chairs?????
While standing in line with my paper ballot, thinking this is going to take forever with only four little chairs and one little table, I went to the election officials and asked if we were required to use some sort of offical pen on the paper ballot. She said "no", you can use any black pen. Then I said, "well, what is the difference if I sit at a little table or I stand in line and fill out my ballot." She left me and asked some other official, and came back and said "there is no reason why you can't go ahead and fill out." With that, I announced to 20 people waiting in line that they could sit on the benches around the gym and fill out the ballot. When I left, everyone in line had voted and was gone, with no line for the paper ballot voting.

Posted by Judith at November 7, 2006 05:12 AMOh, and by-the-way, one little table and only 4 Diebold machines was all there was to accommodate a hugh turn-out. Last election, we had at least 10 Diebold machines and several tables. Speaks for itself. These MOFOs are scared.

With the majority of top new jobs being created paying minimum wage, you bet you are. Hey, how's about that medicare drug benefit! Think the old farts enjoyed hearing their premiums go up by 44% at the end of the year? And your cuts to veterans, pregnant women, education, the environment, job safety...ad infinitum...and the sterling job you did at helping those poor people during Katrina....yep, you are some real humanists. Especially if someone is one of the humans getting $1 trillion dollars in corporate welfare this year! $43 trillion in long-term debt packed on because of your ilk...very human, indeed.
You don't deserve to just lose the election. You deserve to be ridden out of town on a rail. Our Founding Fathers would have added some tar and feathers for effect. Maybe they would have just hung you. That's what they did to traitors, I think.
How many times did you vote today?
Under which names? Now, refer to the traitor section above.

Posted by Avenger D-22 at November 7, 2006 06:11 AMVoted at 6:45am here in NY. The wife and I were the 11th and 12th to vote in our district at our polling station(Our town falls into two congressional districts). Two lovely ladies were tending the voter roll, found our names and took our signatures. The wife offered her drivers license as ID and one of the ladies said in a quite surprised manner, "Oh, you don't need to show any ID dear and if anyone ever tries to tell you you do they are wrong." Ha! And we voted on our trusty old lever machines. Once the curtain swang open the gentleman sitting next to the machine checked that the total had advanced by one and told the ladies at the table the number which they made sure agreed with their list of voters who had signed in.
I'm gonna miss those machines when they're gone.
Posted by snark at November 7, 2006 06:13 AMWow - you still have those mechanical action vote machines, snark? And can we buy them off the county when they're retired?
I was #47 this morning. The voting place was the prosaic self that it's been for 30 years. Literally - it's the same precinct I grew up in and watched my parents using those same mechanical voting machines. Only difference is that the county now uses scan-tron balloting. Prone to tampering yes, but there's a paper trail.
There was a poll watcher, but was a D. No hu-hu.
Posted by idiosynchronic at November 7, 2006 06:46 AMWell, once again the nation will be treated to the spectacle of hopelessly inadequate state and federal resources devoted to what should be a sacred ritual in this country: voting.
Once again, the discrepancy between the Republican hollow paens to Democracy and their funding of its actual operation is staggering. I wonder why that is?
Billions upon billions to invade and occupy Iraq, and play-act bellicose "wargames" off the Straits of Hormuz, pennies for efficient elections so citizens don't have to wait for hours to deal with absurdly unreliable voting "technology".
What a country.
Massive election reform better be part of that 100 Days Strategy.
Posted by euzoius at November 7, 2006 06:57 AMI voted for Republicans. They made this mess in Iraq and I don't want my party to be in power and take any of the blame. The Republicans created this mess, and I voted to let them twist in the wind.

Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 07:50 AMYes, there is an amazing divergence between Bushco's endless trumpeting of the wonders of elections and "democracy" in the world and its attitude toward the ACTUAL elections and democracies that exist in the world, particularing emerging democracies.
But why would anyone with power or influence in America connect the dots and make the actual observation? Only the rest of the world seems able to see the Bushco democracy hypocrisy.

"Two years ago, winning 14 seats in the House would have been a pipe dream,” said Matt Bennett, a founder of Third Way, a moderate Democratic organization. Now, Mr. Bennett said, failure to win the House, even by one seat, would send Democrats diving under their beds (not to mention what it might do to all the pundits).
“It would be crushing,” he said. “It would be extremely difficult.”
Mr. Cook put it more succinctly. “I think you’d see a Jim Jones situation — it would be a mass suicide,” he said."
