Comments: GOP's Assault On Voting Rights Is In Full Swing

I told you before that this election, like the last three national elections, would be STOLEN.

Diebold, vote suppression, threats and "poll challenges" will all be employed to again deny a majority of the American people, the right to chose their politicos.

According to Greg Palast, the GOP has ALREADY suppressed 4.5 million votes.

Please don't be sad when it becomes obvious tonight that the ONLY way to get our country back is to do what Jefferson said MUST be done in times like this.

I said the same thing on another relatively popular lefty blog, and I'm repeating it because it merits repeating. Yes, the Republicans are going to do everything they can to steal the election. No matter, make sure to VOTE today anyway. More and more people wake up every day and see the litany of crimes committed by the Republicans, including the elections. When every exit poll continues to show losses for the Republicans, but the results are a "win," people notice. It will build over time. Someday, the tide will turn. In the meantime, you've got to keep pushing against these forces. Giving up and going home will not result in winning ever. You need to vote today to win tomorrow, or two years from now, or four years from now, or even 16 or 32 years from now. This Republican rule will not last forever.

And speaking of Secretary of State, Conarteesta Rice has departed from the traditional nonpartisan position by stumping for bushco this election.

Guess she forgot about that letter she wrote to congress for her confirmation hearings which included this:

"If confirmed as secretary of state, I intend to continue the tradition in that position of not actively participating in public campaign or political events," Rice wrote back to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. (oops)

Article at Huffpo.

Tiki,

Madame Secretary considers that a commitment that 'is historical in nature'.

Too bad we will all be dead when history's shining account of bushco's brilliant policies comes to fruition.

Posted by TIKI AL at November 7, 2006 09:46 AM

we'll win the house anyway. that's enough.

Posted by benjoya at November 7, 2006 10:40 AM

Man... You guys are talking about the election being stolen and you don't even have the results yet. It's amazing how many people still take the polls seriously. Join me on a reality break. POLLS ARE VOLUNTARY. First of all many Republicans don't pay attention to polls. They don't like being polled. Republicans tend to be more private about their vote. Maybe they don't like being called names and harassed because they didn't vote for who the Liberals think they should have. Democrats and Liberals are much more eager to participate. As a result all of the polls lean at least a little to the left if not a lot to the left. This has gotten worse in the past 10 years. That is obvious to everyone except some Democrats and every Liberal on the planet. Apparently the Liberals think that only Republicans are smart enough to rig an election. I don't know. I would like to think today is going to be a fair and balanced vote reguardless of who wins. I don't think you guys could take another lose after getting so hyped up on all these polls. LOL

Posted by Creeply at November 7, 2006 11:07 AM

I would like to think today is going to be a fair and balanced vote reguardless of who wins.

You see? Republi-cons are too delusional. They also like to think of the Mad King, idiot son of George, as competent. Go figure.

"If confirmed as secretary of state, I intend to continue the tradition

Show me a republi-con saying something, anything, and I'll show you a liar.

Posted by phidipides at November 7, 2006 11:13 AM

Creeply, you of course have empirical evidence to back up your claim, right? Please share that with us and give us the link.

Thanks.

Posted by Steve Soto at November 7, 2006 11:14 AM

And BTW Creeply, my post was about the GOP's efforts to suppress the vote, not about polls. Did you have something to say on the topic in the post?

Posted by Steve Soto at November 7, 2006 11:17 AM

Republicans tend to be more private about their vote.

Tell that to the resident troll, peter, who loves to crow about how many "winners" he's voting for.

Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 11:22 AM

Republicans tend to be more private about their vote.

Actually, now that I think about it, you could be right. Some Republicans might be too embarrassed to admit who they voted for.

Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 11:24 AM

Creeply, this post was about illegal voter supression tactics undertaken by YOUR PARTY the anti-democratic GOP---it was not about "polls" or polling methodology. Try reading it again. and again.

In the face of facts about YOUR PARTY'S nationwide tactics to unfairly prejudice voters and actual voter intimidation by YOUR PARTY (now being investigated by the FBI), you drone on about "wanting to think that today's elections will result in a fair and balanced vote", despite Steve's evidence that YOUR PARTY is working to undermine such a vote.

As always with "conservatives" ignore the actual facts, as though they don't exist, and blame the person for bringing them up. Then bring up a years old voter ACORN registration story in "rebuttal".

Posted by euzoius at November 7, 2006 11:30 AM

First of all the first and second post reffered to Stolen election and exit polls not matching results. Did you read them?? As far as getting the facts straight Liberals and Democrats are far worse in that department. All of the Republicans and conservatives I know will immediately go and look up information on something new that they have heard. Reports..Statistics..ETC.. Democrats and Liberals on the other hand almost never seem to. Every one of them I know takes what ever their politicians say and rumors they hear as complete truth. If you try to show them some numbers that contradict what they have heard, they put their hands over their eyes or cup their ears. Don't confuse me with the facts. They act like a little kid. The immaturity is astounding. Just because Republicans don't like your conspiracy theories doesn’t mean they don't like facts. It’s the exact opposite. They like FACTS. You just need to come up with some. Not opinions and theories. Oh and to back up my claims. Look at the last couple of elections IDIOTS.

Posted by Creeply at November 7, 2006 11:55 AM

Republicans and conservatives I know will immediately go and look up information on something new that they have heard.

You must know a rare group of people because most Republicans and conservatives I know merely accept the words of Rush and O'Reilly (or Deer Leeder) and decide it must be a fact if they say so.

OTOH, when my Republican brother sends me something fear-laced, I research it (because he hasn't) and I send him the facts.

Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 12:04 PM

Creeplycocksucker,

Republicans like facts?

Seriously? Seen the news on Iraq lately?

Lay down the crack pipe, you fucking asshole, and get a clue. Better yet, just move to Iran or North Korea, where your authoritarian personality can be rewarded in orgasmic glory.

Fuck off. As far as I'm concerned, you and your ilk are traitors to this great nation and you deserve a traitor's fate.

Posted by God Of War at November 7, 2006 12:19 PM

See what I mean. Take a look at that post and look at the level of immaturity. : )

Posted by Creeply at November 7, 2006 12:29 PM

Take a look at that post and look at the level of immaturity.

Indeed, almost as immature as your post: "Look at the last couple of elections IDIOTS."

Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 12:43 PM

Creeply said (and I'm paraphrasing here):
I'm a brain-dead fuck who'll suck down whatever shit the Republicans shovel my way.

Creeply, you and your ilk need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Posted by Brian Bell at November 7, 2006 12:50 PM

I think the Democratic leadership fell asleep during the 2000 election, not the 2004 election, and there they have remained. With few exceptions, the Dems continue to fight a conventional political battle. It is long past the time for that. The election will not end today. I am afraid we are all in for a long, litigious post-election period.

Posted by gtash at November 7, 2006 01:07 PM

You can hear an Allen supression tactic here.

from this Kos diary

The tactics are massive.

They know that the only thing that will give them a win is to supress the vote. This is their goal. Always has been.

I am so sick of the lies from the wingers.

Posted by Anjha at November 7, 2006 01:17 PM

Targeted electrical outages, DieBold verification passwords failing, DieBold machine instructions not matching the model delivered to the polling place, phone calls warning voters they will be arrested if they vote, and phone calls telling voters the election is tomorrow.

About the only form of tampering we haven't heard reported today is unexplained road closures by police that block access to polling places. But the day is still young.

The Republican party is truly desperate to mess with the franchise and the election results in what promises to be a bloodbath for GOP candidates. They can't win any other way.

Especially, when the leader of the Republican party, President George W. Bush, is enjoying 35% job approval numbers.

Posted by Christopher at November 7, 2006 01:22 PM

Gtash.. There are obviously several kids in here right now so I won't go on with them. Its nice to see there is someone in here who can act like a grown up. Dispite the fact that I am pretty conservative I not sure having the Dems control at least one house would be a bad thing. I mean I really want to see what their master plan is. I have my doubts but I am willing to listen. The only thing that really scares me is the number radical left and immature people I find on lefty blogs. I have to try and convince myself that they are not the ones who will actually be in power.

Posted by creeply at November 7, 2006 01:28 PM

Creeply, I'm still back to what I said: do you have links to support your claims about exit polls, and why did you bring up exit polls instead of talking about what this post was about?

Posted by Steve Soto at November 7, 2006 02:00 PM

LOL :) Look at the polls before the last couple of elections and then look at the results. Now either one of two things is the reason for the difference. The fact that the polls are voluntary and that Liberals and Democrats are much louder and open about there vote. Or the Republicans have this vast conspiracy to rig the elections and the Democrat politions just can't prove it yet and there for can't do anything about it. Please this is nonsense. People sound so ignorant and stupid when they go on like this. Yes I'm sure there are cases where some of this junk goes on in small numbers. And I'm sure its on BOTH sides. Liberals are known for their intimidation tactics and even physical violence if they don't get their way. Don't tell me they are beyond doing it. I have never seen a Republican threaten a Democrat of a Liberal before. I have seen several times a Liberal get violent when some conservative or Republican was caught talking about somthing they didn't agree with.

You are so full of BS. Who bombs abortion clinics? What party does "go f*** yourself" Cheney belong to? You're delusional.

Or the Republicans have this vast conspiracy to rig the elections and the Democrat politions just can't prove it yet and there for can't do anything about it.

It is not about not being able to prove it dumb ass. There is ample evidence.

It is about every single branch of the govt being owned by the Right Wing.

DOJ is completely under NeoCon control.

That is why these have not been prosecuted. Same reason that there have been only a couple of prosecutions for environmental violations and hiring undocumented workers.

And it does not need to be a vast right wing conspiracy. Only takes one guy to steal an election with the electronic machines.

To use the exit polls from the last two elections not matching the "results" as your "evidence" is truly moronic. Exit polls all over the world are always within a percentage point of actual results until 2000. Always.

They are extremely reliable. Your bullshit explanation about Wingnuts "not wanting to talk" is absurd. These are the assholes who listen to Limbaugh gush and push insanity at amazing decibles. You all scream bloody fucking murder at the slightest slight.

We are talking about our democracy, our Constitution, the foundation of this [once] great Country - being stolen and cut to shreds.

For such a self-proclaimed "America lover" you certainly do not seem very intent on preserving what makes America who she is.

If you gave a damn you would be fighting the election fraud. If you were so convinced that the Pukes had something grand to offer, you would desire that every eligible voter had the right to vote.

You do not. You do not because you know that the wingers who have stolen the Republican Party are evil, decietful, selfish, murderous fucks.

No way around that fact.

I am more Republican than these neoCons will ever be.

The Constitution is a Progressive document written by Liberals.

Our Country is only great due to Liberal values and Liberal policy.

Posted by Anjha at November 7, 2006 02:49 PM

Liberals are known for their intimidation tactics and even physical violence if they don't get their way. Don't tell me they are beyond doing it. I have never seen a Republican threaten a Democrat of a Liberal before.

Who can forget the images of Republican thugs threatening the elderly and retired poll workers in Miami-Dade, as they volunteered in the court-ordered recount effort in 2000?

Not me.

These little, old grey-haired men and women had to be escorted by police to their cars when they left the building and shielded from the wild-eyed, Bush-licking lunatics who appeared crazier than Charles Manson and a lot less intelligent.

Posted by Christopher at November 7, 2006 03:01 PM

Note the references to personal knowledge as dispositive unchallengeable evidence---as though that's the route to accurate information, whatever Crapley himself has run across or imagines he has run across.

And he's sure cheating is going on by both sides, with no examples to hand of Democratic tactics to supress votes or midlead voters whatsoever.

A world of prejudged, fact-free, faith-based fantasy.

The reasoning ability of a child. Today's "conservative" voter.

Creeply said (and I'm paraphrasing again, here):
I'll still suck down any shit the Republicans shovel my way, and I'll even make shit up if it suits me.

Forget what I said about Creeply needing to wake up. Creeply and the like need to be run out of town on a rail. I hope that's what happens, too, even though I fear it won't anytime soon.

Posted by Brian Bell at November 7, 2006 06:32 PM

I mean I really want to see what their master plan is. I have my doubts but I am willing to listen.

Watch "Iraq for Sale" and you can see plan after plan.

The only thing that really scares me is the number radical left and immature people I find on lefty blogs.

You're confusing discussion with your lock-step in unison no dissension allowed party.

Creeply and the like need to be run out of town on a rail.

Why, that would imply that he is an anti-American traitor who supports the death of troops in Iraq. Indeed, it appears he is.
