Two questions on house races.
Are there any Dems going down?
Are there any pickups we expected that did not pan out?
In the latter category, I am thinking Pryce, but I am not sure that we expected to defeat her.
Posted by James E. Powell at November 7, 2006 07:21 PMThe greatest risk of Dems going down currently is in Georgia (2 seats). Let's see how it goes.
Posted by eriposte at November 7, 2006 07:24 PMshowing a Dem gain of 5 / Puke loss of 4 in the House...
Posted by Anjha at November 7, 2006 07:28 PMThe gods are smiling: crazy, corrupt Weldon is toast! And we get a real honorable man in the house called Joe Sestak. What good news!
Posted by Mary at November 7, 2006 07:42 PMSpeaking of nailbiters....Duckworth is only 300 votes behind Roskam with 87 of 522 precincts reporting! The suspense is killing me!!!
Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 07:43 PMGo, Tammy! And I'm glad to see Weldon burned!
Posted by iamcoyote at November 7, 2006 07:45 PMI think I'll confidently predict that Braley will take the open GOP seat in IA-01.
Leach, the moderate Iowa GOP incumbent is in some minor trouble, but the rural counties haven't reported yet. He's likely to reverse and later beat any chance of his opponents' victory over the head with a 2x4.
Boswell will likely hold IA-03.
Fox just conceeded that the Dems will take the House. I've never heard Brit Hume sound so beaten down.
Posted by ann at November 7, 2006 08:06 PMRight On!!
Posted by Seven of Six at November 7, 2006 08:09 PMCNN called it for the House as well!!
Posted by Seven of Six at November 7, 2006 08:10 PMCNN calls it at about 11:07
Posted by KevinNYC at November 7, 2006 08:10 PMBuyer vacate the VA chair seat, scumbag!
Posted by Seven of Six at November 7, 2006 08:11 PMAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I am stressing the %@#%$ out. Not wanting to curse anything but if the Dems do pick up the House and Senate, I hope they can, in fact, make a strong distiction between themselves and the Repubs. Time for Bush's blank-check ability to screw things up, TO END. Hopefully this fog of an administration will start to burn off. Amen! Hallelujah!! Salam Alaikum! Peace be with you! Whoohoo! Woot! Hell Yeah!
p.s. Rove can shove his ASS up his head.
p.s.s. what does cheney do?
I would have hoped all the House votes would somehow influence the Senate more. It could be the Diebold's, under no circumstances, were programmed to give up that control. Fox just said that the Dems win the House, just like it was always predicted!?!? Suck asses.
Posted by dishwashing engineer at November 7, 2006 08:20 PMQuestion:
How many people, do you honestly think, that are displeased with this administration, would vote for the Democrat/Indie/Green/Lib for the House but vote Republican for their Senate Representative?!?!?
Is that a valid question? It seems very strange. Wouldn't all those votes add up in Dem favor? Even by a slight margin?
I guess if some populated areas voted Rep but at the same time, Dems are usually favored in larger metro areas and Reps in rural areas.
Posted by dishwashing engineer at November 7, 2006 08:36 PMCNN has reported that the Democrats have a mathmatical majority in the house. Let the investigations and oversight begin.
Posted by herbal tee at November 7, 2006 08:39 PMYou'e got to remember that Senator is a state wide seat. Representative is not. You can have a states House delegation split or even favoring one party and still wind up with Senators from the other party.
Posted by snark at November 7, 2006 08:41 PMbu$h to hold press conferenance tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST.
Declare martial law instead of having to congratulate Madame Seceretary Pelosi?
Posted by Seven of Six at November 7, 2006 08:46 PMyeah, i know snarky, just seems a little weird. that's why i was pondering the population density question.
one thing is for sure - IF bush were a normal, compromising, person; he might get the message. since he's never wrong though, i'm sure it's falling on deaf ears.
AND the republicans might finally shut up and quit acting like they are the only patriots in this country. The "fiscally responsible" tag was unusable years ago... They act like everything is going to go to hell without all their freakin greed and corporate welfare. I hope the more centrist republicans will feel the fire lit under their asses.
SOS, haha! martial law AND a recount in all lost districts! Pretty quiet from UP ON HIGH, I can't wait.
Last thing (I've been drinking and am a little buzzed).
The stock market does BETTER under Dem administrations. Viva la middle class! Give the middle-class, proletariat, and lower classes money, and what do we do? SPEND IT! I think I spent my 2006 bush tax cut savings three years ago on a Gatoraid... I remember it being really good though.
Posted by Washing beer steins at November 7, 2006 09:01 PMSpeaker Nancy Pelosi. Gee, that sounds wonderful!
Posted by Mary at November 7, 2006 10:17 PMWhere is Peter tonight? And the rest of the trolls?
Posted by sf at November 7, 2006 10:45 PMI'll be so happy that we won't have to here all the FAUX indignation anymore!
Posted by Seven of Six at November 7, 2006 10:52 PMLaura Rozen reports that Jim Leach (R-IA) has lost.
Leach had always been seen as a sensible voice on foreign policy and a good moderate - the article says he wasn't even in one of the races any money was put into and they didn't even realize he was in trouble until about 2 weeks ago. It's clear he is a casualty of Bush's war.
Posted by Mary at November 7, 2006 10:56 PMHoly cow! Leach lost! His seat was "Likely Republican" (although it does have a D+7 PVI)!
Posted by eriposte at November 7, 2006 11:25 PMI was at the PA-08 victory party tonight. Patrick Murphy won - you can write that down as well.
Posted by PsiFighter37 at November 8, 2006 12:56 AMI am a Canadian, and reading this post had shivers running up and down my back. Americans
