Rummy stepping down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Anjha at November 8, 2006 09:52 AMRumsfeld goes down.
Liberman takes over.
Connecticut appoints a Repub senator.
Smell a rat.
Posted by suds at November 8, 2006 09:57 AMwhat a cool day! I just have two words to convey to our disgraced Troll population: John Conyers
Posted by T2 at November 8, 2006 09:59 AMsuds, I think you got it.
We still have to watch bu$h and turdblossom like a hawk.
So it will be a 50-50 tie and cheney is the breaker.
How exactly is Lieberman qualified to be Sec of Defense?
Posted by ann at November 8, 2006 10:04 AMAnd Webb ahead by nearly 8000 votes
now it appears we can send Rummy to the Netherlands for trial at the Hague. Can we begin a collection for his travels, or will the UN pick up the tab?
Posted by oldtree at November 8, 2006 10:06 AMYou ain't the only one, suds.
There will be shitload of pissed Connecticut voters if it happens.
That Rummy is quitting is just the beginning of the head rolling. I predict Rove will have another job opportunity in a week. Any other cabinet member with bad polling numbers will be in deep shit. Denny Hastert will be out of the minority leader's seat at week's end as well. Frist will be deposed as well, unless he can get Liddy 'Clueless' Dole to take the entire rap for her bad campaign. Josh Bolten may also be fired as White House Chief of Staff, depending on whether or not he was realistic in his outlook, unlike his boss.
Posted by idiosynchronic at November 8, 2006 10:07 AMfranken says former CIA chief Bob Gates will be new SecDef
Posted by benjoya at November 8, 2006 10:10 AMAnn from Wiki:
When control of the Senate switched from Republicans to Democrats in June 2001, Lieberman became Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee, with oversight responsibilities for a broad range of government activities. He is also a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and chair of its Subcommittee Clean Air, Wetlands and Private Property; the Armed Services Committee, where he chaired the Subcommittee on Air Land Forces and sits of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities
Id, I would suspect that Melhman would go first. Unless Rove is indicted of course!
Posted by Seven of Six at November 8, 2006 10:15 AMRobert Gates, former head of the CIA, is being appointed
Posted by Katherine Hunter at November 8, 2006 10:20 AMWhat Susds suggests is worrying. Does anyone know how long it would be before a special election must be conducted? I would think it would have to be within a year, perhaps less.
That JOE! would want to be SecDef has long been a rumor, but I wonder how much it's actually worth. Joe might want to end his career, as he visualizes it, by nobly pursuing his vision of bi-partisanship by joining the Republican administration which brought him back to the Senate; to boldly tackle the insurmountable problem of Iraq where lesser men might fear to tread. Is he truly stupid enough to believe he could actually succeed?
If he did that, though, he'd be viewed as a vile traitor by all his former colleagues and a good portion to the deluded populace of Connecticutt.
The question is, would he do it? Would he give up a precious Chairmanship of a powerful Judiciary(?) Committee for, at most, one year of a 50/50 Senate and the obvious headaches of running the DoD for Bush's last 2 years; and not a minute more?
Of course, he has been muttering that he has been taking names of those who stabbed him in the back so maybe he feels they have it coming. I refuse to attempt in any way to think like JOE! Life is too short!

I think we can now peel off more Repub votes. They owe Bush nothing anymore and I would suspect really hate his guts right about now.
The message is clear: If you keep rubber stamping this chronically bad gambler, you will be unemployed.
Posted by Daryl at November 8, 2006 10:28 AMCongratulations guys. Well done. This morning I went to CNN.com. Soon as I noticed that the headlines didn't say anything about voter fraud or stolen election, I knew the Democrats had finally pulled it off.
Ok what's on agenda?
1. Roll back the tax cuts on the rich people.
That will stop those bastards from investing in the stock market and driving the damn thing to a record high.
2. Roll back the big tax deductions that the oil companies get. That will teach those pricks and keep the price of gas down at the pump.
3. While we are at it roll back the tax cuts on big and small business and raise the minimum wage at the same time. That will bring down unemployment.
4. Put an immediate stop to the domestic surveillance program and do away with the patriot act. After all they are obviously not working since we have not been attacked and we have only uncovered a couple of terrorist plots to attack us.
5. Get our troops out of Iraq immediately and set a time table to let the insurgents know just when it will start and how long it will take. That will show terrorists all over the world not to mess with us.
6. Investigate the heck out of everyone and everything that the government has done over the past 6 years. Nothing will scare terrorists more than to see the United States government divided and bogged down with investigations.
7. Now that we have those Bible thumping Republicans out of office, let's open up dialog with the Muslim extremists. After all believing that by killing innocent people you will go to heaven is not irrational. Not believing in late term abortion is. If we are just nice to them they won't want to hurt us.
8. Kill any and all proposals to change the way Social Security works. There is no need to change it. When it comes time we will just raise the social security tax to save it. We can't allow people to have Private social security accounts. First off since they would own them the government would not be able to touch them. How could we possibly use that against Republicans in our future elections?
9. Stop our dependence on foreign oil. The best way to do this is to make sure there is a ban on any future oil drilling in the United States. Especially off shore drilling. We are much better off letting foreign countries drill in our ocean waters.
Im sure there is much more to do but this will be a good start to putting this country back in the right direction.
Im sure there is much more to do but this will be a good start to putting this country back in the right direction.
Deeply Creeply, STFU!
Creeply,
Must be a tough day for you. Why not just take the year off, while we work to put the country back on track?
Oh, and creeply, just for the record,
1) stock market record highs have nothing to do with taxation levels. If this weren't the case, then why did the 90's record expansion take place before the Bush tax cuts?
2) Oil company prices are set by collusion. It's common knowledge (sucks to be you) that oil companies are seeing absurdly record profits. Taxation levels have nothing to do with it.
3) The last time the minimum wage was raised was just a few years back, and -- again, sucks to be you -- the data is clear: it had no impact on unemployment. You should at least TRY to pick a talking point that is backed up by the evidence.
4) We stopped over 130 terrorist attacks in the decade before 9/11, all without breaking the law and running roughshod over the Constitution. What's more, before 9/11 it had been nearly eight years since a domestic terrorist attack from al Qaeda. Concluding that the lack of domestic attacks since 9/11 are thanks to Patriot/domestic survellience is just stupid, and you know it.
5) If there's one thing that's emboldening the terrorists around the world, it's the constant display of weakness that staying in Iraq is putting on, and the fact that our presence there, which is fueling the civil war, is turning Iraq into a new terrorist training ground and a new recruitment tool. You're simply an idiot if you don't get that. Fortunately, most Americans obviously do.
6) And here I thought conservatives cared about clean government and law and order. Chalk up another one that's just a myth.
7) No one has claimed that we should just "talk with the terrorists". That's entirely your fevered imagination. Again, fortunately, most Americans know you're outright loony on this. Which is why you just got your ass kicked.
8) Social Security is fine. What is in trouble is the overall finances of the U.S. Government thanks to six years of GOP fiscal mismanagement. Most Americans want Social Security untouched. I guess you think you should save them from themselves.
9) You're just batshit crazy. The best way to stop our dependence on foreign oil is alternative energies and conservation. Simple, really.
Creeply, I know it sucks to be you today. Please, do try not to spread your sickness around. Sleep it off, and come back in 2008 for another whuppin', m'kay?
Posted by Jonathan at November 8, 2006 11:14 AMLOL haahahahahah I must have hit close to the mark to get a rise like that. That is the one thing I love about Liberals and Democrats. Its so easy to upset them. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHHHHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHH
Don't cry I was just being sarcastic. Please any real politician knows that the Democrats will not be able to get anything done in the next two years. Not without enough votes to override a Bush Veto. Republicans have nothing to be upset about. In fact its going to be kinda nice not to here the Democrats crying for a little while.
Im sure there is much more to do but this will be a good start to putting this country back in the right direction.
Ahhhh...the widdle wee-pub-li-con got he bitty feelings hurt! Yes he did! Ahhhh...dem big mean bad demo-cwats gonna hang he in da public square. Yes dey is! Dey so scarwy. Ahhh...he just a bitty widdle moron.
Not without enough votes to override a Bush Veto.
You are the most clueless fuck who ever came here. Pelosi is going to be holding the Hague over his head.
Posted by phidipides at November 8, 2006 11:29 AMTruth hurt don't it phidipides . LOL
I checked everywhere but I can't find any coverage of the celabrations going on in IRAN IRAQ and North korea. I'm sure it will be on tonight. Does anyone know who's covering those?
Should be a pretty big party going on. IRAN gets its Nuke, Insurgents in Iraq get a victory and North korea is going to end up getting paid off again.
WE ELECTED DEMOCRATS TO CONGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that we have some power, will Republicans from the President on down, stop calling us the "Democrat Party?"
We are the proud DEMOCRATIC PARTY.
Get it right!
yes, those events could very well be some of the many failures of Bush and the "conservative" movement you have cheered every day for years now, creepy.
It's a shame we didn't have a competent president and responsible Congress during the past six years---we would've had a good chance to avert those serious setbacks.
But nitwits like you had to keep blindly supporting Bushco neo-con clowns, so we're in quite a mess because of your idiocy. Thanks, and great work!
Posted by euzoius at November 8, 2006 12:17 PMCreeply,
As was already evident by the fact that you showed your face here today, wingnut trolls don't know when they've been handed their asses.
Please, do us a favor and keep posting your "talking points". They're laughably easy to debunk, and as the last 48 hours has shown, only a small minority of Americans believe you in the first place.
It's sport to shoot you down, genius, and nothing more. Don't flatter yourself.
Posted by Jonathan at November 8, 2006 12:27 PMhttp://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance32.html
Here is a link that explains how the Presidents veto works and explains why your party is going to get exactly nothing done in the next two years so don't get all excited. Not much is going to change. You do not have the two thirds majority needed in the house or senate. SORRY.
Life sucks. LOL
Creeply, son, if you couldn't explain how the veto works yourself without a website guiding you, you're as dumb as a pile of rocks. And pointing out what Congress can do without the President's approval is simply worthless.
